@SmallCraftTasmania-ms4sx ahh, that's no good, I was hoping to finally find a cure for my cronic Oneboatmoreitis. Mind you, what is your current boat count? Prehaps they are having a slight effect...
Best sailing video I have ever seen! Thank you. I have a Catalina 22, have a Boldger Gypsy that I built, and am about half way done building a Welsford Navigator. Your video tied together all my boating experience. I am old - 78, but I still am full of sailing dreams that I intend to turn into reality. Thank you for sharing so much knowledge.
Camping tips, dinghy sailing tips, cooking tips (hadn't thought of the egg in bread thing), great humour, greater vibes and some Tasmanian shenaniganry in one video? What a lovely find! Definitely worth a sub from across the globe in dull ol' Belgium!
Thanks Mat, that was quite an expensive little video. I now have 2 Baltic jackets, a chain sock and a Cooper anchor on the shopping list. Love your work!
Thanks Mat and Jo, fantastic video, packed with great ideas for SCAMP enhancements. Thankyou for documenting your SCAMP so comprehensively, much appreciated!!!
Hey thanks heaps, really enjoyed the trip back to Snake Island. I used to sail/camp in a 14’ clinker dinghy we called “Swallow”. We used to cruise to New Norfolk and back - I was about 10 years old, and my brother 14. Thanks so much for your excellent review - what a great little boat Scamp is. Always enjoy your videos! David Read - Triabunna
Great video! Seems like, if I only have a bow anchor, my boat works its way to be broadside to the waves. Makes it hard to sleep. A stern anchor helps. BTW you have a wonderful first mate.
One of the most informative & enjoyable 'watch's ' I have have seen --- just so good to see how well you can sail & overnight in the most relaxing easy way. Fanastic. :)
WELL DONE! I had the pleasure of making one of these wonderful little micro-yachts a few years ago and am still figuring things out. You have given me much food for thought on some changes I want to make. Thank you
Thanks Steve. And thanks for posting on the SCAMP FB page. Don't forget to check out our channel, lots of other SCAMP content including the circumnavigation of Bruny Island. Stay Salty, Mat.
What a great enthusiastic video with out being over the top and of you and Jo pointing out the virtues of this unbelievable little boat, and passing on some great information. You have an excellent relaxed style. Well done.
We live in Gig Harbor, so it’s great to see these boats all over the world! Really enjoyed your video. As you sail around Tasmania I follow along with my chart. Best regards from the Pacific Northwest of the US.
just bumped into your channel mate, didnt know tasmania was this devlishly beautiful! 'thats not a boat thats a scooner!" haha cheers mate from your cordial and genuine antipodial belgian friend. (yes i am drunk on french wine)
Great video Mat. Really enjoyed the format and your enthusiasm, for what is a brilliant little ship. Can’t wait to get mine finished to get in on the fun👍😄
Thank you. That's amazing. Been thinking about selling my 18 ft glass boat and building a scamp. You've just about convinced me. Love your channel. More please. 39:20
I'm so bloody envious struggling to even get a Fekin bow u bolt for my boat I'm renovating, yet I've never seen a sole on your planet and you seam to have everything!! to hand. Excuse me pissing myself watching Jo sniggering whilst you were showing us how EASY it was with outboard bracket. Thanks for all the content,it is very informative. Regards Robert
Best video I've seen on the Scamp! Love your channel, esp the episode on the launching of Peppy. There isn't much video on TH-cam yet of a Long Steps on the water so it was particularly exciting. Hope you'll do a followup sometime down the road. Can you answer a question for me? I've never been in a Scamp. When you were describing the fenders that double as seat cushions, you said something to the effect that an additional benefit is they raise you up a couple of inches which helps keep your knees out of your face. So my question is: Is the floor of the scamp low enough that seating with your feet down comfortable? Or are your knees really too high? Thanks again for your entertaining and informative vids!
Thanks for the comment. The comment about having your knees around your ears is directed at most small boats. The SCAMP has good seat height in comparison to most small boats.
Loved this adventure, especially the trangia cooking and that little egg toast trick you little monkey, that is a game changer 😂. Greetings from the UK and our little leisure 17 on Ullswater in the lake district.
I’m still hoping one of these will come up for sale in North Carolina one of these days! Fits my desire for small boat sailing perfectly. If I don’t put a motor on it, but row or scull, it doesn’t even have to be registered here.
Have you triex a gas conversion on your trangia they are unbeleivable way faster than metho burner and run on a disposable cartridge on a large cartride about $16 i get a week an s a half of drinks n food cooked 2 cups oc boiled water in 2 min but about 120 for the burner but last over 30 years ic looked after
Hi guys love your channel love the scamp beautiful little dingy. These dingys I believe there made in the US are they available in Australia thanks for ant info cheers
My Mirror dingy trailer has an extended drawbar. It was done so that I could tow with my truck campef (US)/demountable camper (UK)/slide in camper (Aus) in place on the truck.
With the Baltic Vest Mat…. I’m about 100kg’s as well… do you wear the XL size? - going to have to order online. I sail a TS16 & Oughtred Shearwater I built, so this would be great as something far more comfortable for when is cold in SA (Goolwa). Love the TH-cam channel - great inspiration for sailing my small boats and getting on the water more!!
Nice video. Whilst watching I compared features of your plastic SCAMP with my garage made ply SCAMP. Both very stable. Love your tent design except I have halyards on top of cuddy in jam cleats so your tent wouldn't work on my boat. That said I don't have to bend down to release halyards. Like your cockpit wooden slat setup for a sleeping floor. Might make something similar. Cheers from Trevor sailing Clare (hull#407) on Burley Griffin, ACT.
Great vid, just bought SCAMP #225, believe I'm the fourth owner. Still learning how to rig her properly. Questions: 1) where do we get those hats? 2) is the wind needle permanently mounted?
that was effing funny; having sailed a cape cod frosty (smallest one design racing class) during the canadian winter, i'm good with the pram type hull, and roughing it on the water. currently, however, i'm a wanna be scamper. can you send me any info on that great tent design? is it mossy proof? LMK Thx
We designed the tent from scratch. A talented local canvas cover maker made it for us. Yes, completely mozzie proof once you stuff a sponge in the transom tiller hole.
Just in case ur interested i got my trangia gas con ersion at all goods i use it dailg as i live in a van and it dont freeze up like a fly spray can styld butane canister does gas is at anaconda
Looking forward to it and its all relevant to my situation as I'm living in a van so size weight n running expenses are all relevant so is availability of gas and stove but I'm not far from u now 35klm away or so
I used to be in the Swedish Search and Rescue Association and a number of years ago we exchanged all inflatable life wests for Baltic Offshore (I think it's called), stuffed life wests, due to reliability issues.
Thank you, I did find Gig Harbour website and have emailed them if they ship to Australia sydney, no reply just yet. I was wondering if they had a reseller here in Australia, fully built one, as I'm no good with kits. That's a perfect boat for me and a friend for short overnight trips. Even solo is awesome. Keep the videos coming. :)

No point...they don't work. ⚓👍

As a fellow SCAMPer I really appreciate this video. Great job. I learned some things. Love my wood SCAMP.
That tent is a perfect solution. Just lovely lateral logical thinking ❤
No matter how late it is or how bad the weather, I am not stopping to camp on or near a place named "Snake Island".
😂
No Russians there ... 🌻 Some Ukrainian guy told them to F off and take the 🐍 with them.
Absolutely amazing little boat, my dream is to have a SCAMP someday. I'm so envious of the beautiful places you have to sail down there.

Absolutely the best scamp content I’ve been able to find. Would love one of these lil boats. Mostly because it’s capable but still fits in a garage..

What a good video.
I have a 22ft shallow draft Dovekie, also with a rowing station. I get what fun you are having with the Scamp.
