I also have picture books that I've written and book dummied up but need to do the final artwork so these are all so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and insight!
I so appreciate this, thank you Emma. I have had no end of problems trying to get the sizing right for kdp publishing. Your illustrations are so vibrant. Quite beautiful. That alone creates interest....and I am an adult😊
Thank you for a great tutorial. As a sidenote: when setting up your document in photoshop, don't forget to choose pixels/inch instead of cm like you mistakenly did if you want 600 dpi. It otherwise will be extremely heavy.
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! Trying to find a good quality walkthrough for creating a picture book on TH-cam is a nightmare of “get rich quick” KDP guides and generative AI garbage. So glad I found your channel. I recently wrote and illustrated my entire first book in a UI design app called “Figma” (I’m a product designer by trade), and quickly realized that it’s not the best tool for this application. Going to redo the entire thing in Photoshop now 😅

That was brilliant, I've been thinking of getting one of my books on Amazon but wasn't sure how the uploading process plus ISBNs and barcodes etc would all work. Hi Romica ☺👋aw thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video and the bloopers too! I always have plenty of material for bloopers 😆What are your books about? Hello from Wales (as of 2 weeks ago)
@@EmmaCarpenterIllustration So glad the move went well and Wales, how beautiful. I have only been to North Wales but the shots you showed in your newest video look so beautiful. Glad you found the video helpful ☺️ Hmm not sure 🤔 do you mean when you’re creating the pdf? Or do you mean when you’re making the double page spread? Are they too big or too small? Are there any white margins?
Yep that’s right when creating the pdf, I’ve made all my images as tiffs followed your instructions matched the size to the images but when I place the images in bridge and then export them they consistently have this white border/ margin around them
@@rcfc8079 Go back to the pdf section of the video around 19:20. Wonderful video and beautiful illustrations! i just wanted to let you and your viewers know that I've heard there are free barcode generators out there, instead of buying them with the ISBNs.
Hi Emma, Good tutorial. After reading all about what expanded publisher means. My question is, if I were to choose that expanded option, at the lesser royalties rate of 40%, would I receive royalties from publishers behind the expanded publishers, like libraries and unis, etc., if they choose to buy...AND royalties from Amazon KDP sales and the 60% rate from their sales of my book? WOW! Is not clear as mud?
What a beautiful book! Congratulations🎉 and thank you for sharing such an informative process! I was wondering what was your scanning or photographing process? Any tips? I am creating a childrens book with watercolor illustrations and that is my next step!
Thank you so much 😄 I scanned everything in at 600dpi (300dpi is the standard). Then I edit in Photoshop, brighten, contrast, up the saturation a bit. I would recommend watching Kendyll Hillegas, she has a great video on scanning & editing traditional art here th-cam.com/video/4KX9a1iMugs/w-d-xo.html Good luck with your book! 📚
Great video! Thank you for sharing! I have a question. I first published through Amazon, but I have revised my first book and bought my own ISBN number, so I am not sure how to word the copyright page. Do I put 1st published Amazon 2024 and 2nd edition with my own publishing? I want to still use KDP but with my own ISBN Hope my question made sense
Thank you Chloe 🥰so glad you found it helpful. I hope you enjoy your book!📚After you've read it could you leave me a review on Amazon? That would make my day! 💕
Thank you! I have a question. Printing through Amazon, wouldn’t make an Amazon as a publisher? If not then what would you put because if someone wants to reference your book in their writing, they need this information. And what name for Amazon exactly do I put. Because Amazon kdp registers their free ISBN with Bowker (it says on kdp website), in Bowker’s field for publisher kdp writes “Independently published” and not “Amazon kdp”. Where is if you get free ISBN from Barns & Noble Press in the box for publisher they put their name “Barnes & Noble Press”.
This was so helpful and your illustrations are so beautiful! Thank you so much! I only have one question, did you put “Inky Cat Publishing” as the Publisher Name on the Nielsen ISBN store?
Awesome video. I followed it to try to create my first picture book. But I must have done something wrong. When I brought up the tiff to convert to pdf in Bridge, the text is blurry. I'm not sure what I need to do to fix that. Any suggestions?
Sis. Why when i raise the dpi, the trim size is changed larger too, when i uploaded manuscript and cover. How to submit manuscript or cover to 300 dpi without changed the trim size? Thx sis🙏

Incredibly helpful, thank you :)
Thank you so much for this awesome video guide!
You're so welcome! 😄
Thank you dear friend for sharing your experience so generously.
You're welcome 😊📚 thanks for watching!
Great video! Thank you for sharing! I have a question. I first published through Amazon, but I have revised my first book and bought my own ISBN number, so I am not sure how to word the copyright page. Do I put 1st published Amazon 2024
and 2nd edition with my own publishing? I want to still use KDP but with my own ISBN Hope my question made sense
Your video is extremely helpful! Do you submit the copyright via Amazon? Or on your own? Thanks!
This was so incredibly helpful! Thank you for this ❤️ I love you book and will be purchasing a copy for myself ❤️❤️
Thank you Chloe 🥰so glad you found it helpful. I hope you enjoy your book!📚After you've read it could you leave me a review on Amazon? That would make my day! 💕
@@EmmaCarpenterIllustration yes I would be happy to leave a review 🥰
@@chloejensen5689 yay 🥰 thank you!!!
What a wonderful video and a beautifully illustrated book! 😄
Aww thank you Lou 🥰
Thank you so much! Your video was an inspiration for me to create my own children book with MidJourney. I even published it, so happy about it.
🥳📚 yay so glad this video helped you and congratulations!
Thank you Emma ❤️ Really helpful and generous
😊Thank you, glad you liked it!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👍🏼 Thank you, very helpful... ending adorable 😄💜
This was so helpful and your illustrations are so beautiful! Thank you so much! I only have one question, did you put “Inky Cat Publishing” as the Publisher Name on the Nielsen ISBN store?
Yes I did 😊 thanks for watching and good luck with your book
@@EmmaCarpenterIllustration thank you for taking the time to reply and for the clarification 🙌💙
Awesome video. I followed it to try to create my first picture book. But I must have done something wrong. When I brought up the tiff to convert to pdf in Bridge, the text is blurry. I'm not sure what I need to do to fix that. Any suggestions?
Great video! Thanks for sharing…. I’m getting error for my book. It’s only 29 page but it’s asking for 72 pages.
I think you need to select premium color ink as standard color in is for minimum 72 pages
Sis. Why when i raise the dpi, the trim size is changed larger too, when i uploaded manuscript and cover. How to submit manuscript or cover to 300 dpi without changed the trim size? Thx sis🙏
Great video! Very helpful. How can you set up your account so BOTH the author and illustrator receive payments?
