    Thank you so much, Mark! I was so scared when I put in a new lens and suddenly found a smudge on the light background. I thought I had a faulty lens. But then I found out it was a grit on the sensor and with the help of your video and a blower I got rid of all the debris! That's 98%, just like you said! Thank you master, you saved me! 😍

    I freak out about sensor dust and take extra precautions every time I take a lens off. I think it's ingrained in my brain to protect the sensor at all times. Funny story...I was watching Jeremy Neipp's video Wildlife Photography Adventure: Exploring Unknown Places...and he took the body cap off his camera while it was facing up IN THE RAIN and put a lens on it. Granted he did it fast but, I actually put my hands on my head and said out loud what are you doing!!! He shoots with Lumix S1H I think. I don't know if that camera has a shutter curtain or not, but it completely freaked me out. And then I thought to myself if something like that bothered me I have issues and need to get out more. 😀

    Hi Mark, thanks for the video.
    I am planning on getting a new lens and saw it comes with the cleaner and looks very similar to the one you showed, so now I know it will work.

    Good info. I did wet clean the sensor on my M50 once and it was a piece of cake. I did watch Nigel Danson’s video on wet cleaning a sensor first though.🙂

    Hi mark. Such helpful information! I didn't have any luck however with my speck. I'm going to do a wet clean next. Could you cover the difference between the Sensor & the mirror for those of us that don't know the difference? I saw a speck on what I thought was the mirror. Got rid of the speck thanks to you but when I look through the lens its still there and soft rather than a hard defined speck. Thanks!

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The M50 does not have a mirror, so all you are seeing is the sensor.

    I only came across your video today (two years after it was uploaded). So I was wondering if your affiliate link is still valid. The one you have currently on leads us to a general page that does contain a few option of "lenses cleaners' suitable to glasses, lenses and telescopes. I guess my question is: is this the product you are recommending (can we use regular glasses cleaner on the cam. sensor) or is simply that the link went bananas after the years? Thank you in advance and Great job with the content. Cheers.

    I always take a Lens off with the sensor pointing down so nothing can get in from top down. I never leave an open camera with the opening up.

    Those Zeiss wipes leave all kinds of lint behind, got some from B&H and could not believe the amount that was left behind. I have a whole big box just sitting in a tote that I will never even touch again for camera use.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had that from time to time, I just brush them off. The issue I have with the other wipes I have used, is that they leave a residue and don't actually clean the more stubborn finger smears on the lenses, these seem to work every time.

    What about a prescription glasses grade microfiber cloth for the inside of the lens (not the sensor)?

  • @Akirilus

    So, at the local convenience store they sell deer skin car window cleaners, like a piece of deer skin you use to wipe off a window, they are perfect for cleaning optics and don't leave residue.

  • @deep_space_dave

    Thanks for the video. You forgot to mention something very important. DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR FROM A CAN TO CLEAN YOUR SENSOR!!! You may inadvertently spray you sensor with hydrocarbons (OIL) and now you have a bad situation where you may have to wet clean or send you camera in. Or even worse the oils could dissolve the optical coatings. When it comes to optics only use a manual blower! You're welcome :-)

    Finger print ...what can I do about that?

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, thats a wet sensor clean. Just order the kit, it's not hard, the the sensor is very robust, not delicate like you might think. Just make sure there is no sand or grit on the sensor before you do the wet clean.

  • @VivianEcclefield58

    Noticed a couple of slightly darker spots in my photos recently, found with a high exposure and dark background there are a few white specks, front wipe down of lens didn't sort it. Have had the camera a few weeks and the idea of cleaning the sensor freaked me out ngl, so thanks for this video, has made me feel a lot better and given me some good processes to go through to hopefully avoid having to be invasive. Thanks!

    Perhaps start the video by stating that if you have already determined that your camera needs to be wet cleaned that will not be covered. It will save the viewer time before they find a tutorial that demonstrates the wet clean process. My bad for not looking at the written video outline first.

    Really useful steps. I find myself switching lenses more often now with my M6 mii in order to help get better framing, IQ for the respective shooting environment /place setting. while being reluctant to switch out in certain wet or windy conditions outdoors. This gives me a second thought as to how I can be a bit more confident that finding a spec on the image does not necessarily mean a difficult cleaning job. Thanks.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always point the camera down when switching lenses too, stops it from catching falling particles or rain.
