My golden girl is approaching 17 gracefully :) she eats BB life protection senior dry food (not for main meals but as a snack.) along with homemade dog food and BB wet food. She also gets beef liver and heart as homemade treats. That along with gentle exercise and lots and lots of love is the key!
Thank you Glen for this video! As always, it was very interesting and informative! I'm glad to see that Blue Buffalo Life Protection might be a good alternative choice! Great stuff! 🐶🐺
I ran out of Orijen Senior (way too expensive) so after watching your vids then researching various brands including Science diet. I decided to try the Blue Buffalo Adult. It's in the affordable price range & So far so good & the pooch loves it.
I really liked your video, it is really informative, it was very interesting to learn about the different nutrients content in dog food. However, chicken meal and dried chicken are not the same. Chicken meal is processed chicken that has been heated and cooked into a powder, while dried chicken is dehydrated chicken meat (like jerky).
Glad it was helpful! Yes, chicken is processed in different ways but unfortunately it is impossibly to know the quality of each… unless you look at mineral levels. Meal can provide a better amino acid profile and controlled mineral levels compared to some fresh or dehydrated chicken.
Glen, I have learned a lot from your videos. Keep up the good work. I have noticed that many of the "premium" dry dog foods do not include Calcium and Phosphorus in their guaranteed analysis. In many cases, they have very few items in their analysis. Why do you think that is? Thanks
Casey, food companies are only going to put on the bag what is required by law. Of course they have room for silly dishonest marketing. But if you watch my video on the guaranteed analysis you’ll see it’s not very useful anyway. Welcome to the channel. I appreciate it!
Puppy food=ground veil. Yes raw. Then we get into some rib end chuck steak as your puppy develops. Skip the rib section and move into that sirloin (optional as a cost saving measure). Mix in some veggies and that is all folks. Anything else is quite frankly, toxic.
All Blue dog and cat wet food has carrageenan. Carrageenan has been banned in the EU as studies have shown carrageenan to be genotoxic. "A genotoxin is a chemical or agent that can cause DNA or chromosomal damage." - National Institutes of Health.
Have a new dog which we had been feeding Blue Buffalo puppy to and now that he’s a year old we were really confused on whether or not we should be feeding him the wilderness or the life protection variety. Thank you for clearing this up and easing my mind that it’s OK to spend less money when the nutrients tell us to. Thanks for the great video. Look forward to seeing more.😊
I wouldn’t spend money on those boutique brands even if it’s sold at Target or Walmart now. I’ve feed my dogs dog chow for years and my dogs did well. I’m feeding my old Labrador purina pro plan senior now. He is blind in one eye it’s all cloudy. 13 year old stockier show type Labrador. He’s moving slower and sometimes trips easily. I hope this helps him. I’ve never bought dog food that expensive.
I fed my pitbull same type of dog food i had her for 13 years without any help problems right up until she passed from liver failure.but now I bought a large breed puppy and i want to make sure her body is in premium shape so I fed her expensive dog food like fromm gold .now im feeding her buffalo blue which is almost half the price of the fromm premium dogfood i was feeding her
There is no such thing as "too much" ice cream! Blue marketing equates dogs with wolves and says they need "lots of real meat" Yet all their kibble contains oatmeal, barley and brown rice. I doubt that wolf on the bag would eat those things.
@@GardeningGroomer Happy Caturday! The National Zoo feeds dry dog food, meat, fish, bones, frozen prey and vegetables. The premise of the raw / whole prey / homemade diet is that it is based on what a cat or wolf or dog would eat in the wild. I'm not here to campaign or recruit, just having fun with Glen.
My St. Bernard needs a good food , My question is What meat causes the most allergies in Dogs ?? The reason I ask this is because our dog was 5 yrs. old when we became his owners, and the previous owners said he has food allergies but they could not tell us what the source of the allergy was. so we are shooting in the dark to find a good formula for him . any help would be appreciated , Thank You !
I always fed blue life protection until they came out with their new Baby Blue dog foods in a pink or blue bag. It’s cheaper than life protection, and I get a digital coupon from kroger for $3.50 off because I’m a frequent buyer of the food, so it’s cost effective, too. How does it compare to life protection nutritionally? The crude analysis is identical, which is how I was comparing it.
Interesting video. Interesting that Katherine Heigl’s dogfood brand was selected to advertised at the beginning of your video. I went to the website and couldn’t find the protein/calcium/phosphorus information. Any chance you would do a video on Badland Ranch “Superfood Complete”. I also emailed the company asking for that info.
Natalie, she seems like a great lady but misinformed. She says much if the same myths we hear from other shady food companies. Let me know if they send any info.
hello glenn, if you can get around to it I'd love know your thoughts on Redbarn's kibble, and air dried dog food nutrition. I won't hold you to it, but I will continue to check back just in case you were able.

Wow! That’s awesome! Has she had a senior blood panel recently?

Could you do a quality check for Steve’s Real Food? I am adding a little to the Blue Buffalo puppy kibble.
Which one is good for making your senior dog gain weight.
I'm sure non of it is high quality ingredients. How about that nature flavors
Blue life makes me think of code blue, not a good think in medicine.

You might be surprised what most zoos feed to their wolves…

Have you reviewed Proplan adult Chicken dry dog food
Warren, yes, ProPlan is compared in a few videos. Will be included in my Fromm review I hope to post tonight.
Good as always, there is a very popular Brand called FROMM that I asked before to hear something about from you.
I really need to do that! A few people have asked. A good friend of mine works for them so I hope it reviews well!
Used to use Fromm but it's no longer sold on Chewy.
