The government can create awareness programmes more and more about cleanliness and sanitation.
The government can impose heavy duty fines for irresponsible garbage disposal thorough various forms and deal with offenders strictly.
The government should provide better ways of disposing waste.
There are hardly any dustbin available in many cities.
There is a lot of drainage problem in many cities.
There is a lot of human feces and animal feces on the roads and streets (which is really a disgusting thing and foreigners mock us a lot for that) which is due to unchecked animals roaming freely on the roads and also uneducated people.
While the central government can't do everything on it's own, it certainly can do A LOT rather than focusing on the useless issues.

    2. Stop burning dry leaves and waste.
    3. Dispose your waste properly.
    4. Make pollution papers of cars compalsary and heavy punishment if not renewed or made.
    5. And lastly stop screaming that government should do everything because that'll cut your noise pollution significantly!

Various reports this year clearly said that not more that 25% of the total pollution in Delhi was caused by activities of neighbouring states. What about the other 75%? So work your ass off and do your homework. Particularly punjab is doing well each year in controlling the pollution during harvesting period, which cannot be dragged to zero immediately consider the support we get from central and state governments.

There is no point in making comparisons of communist gov and democratic gov.
Our so called netas might bring new policies for improvement of air pollution but normal citizens most of them don’t follow it and finds loop hole to escape the law.
So it should start from the home first.
Families should be strict and should have a positive approach towards this issue instead of being in comfort zone and putting the blame on the govt.

The problem is. We tend to not use Engineering and technology to help us with our crises. We use odd-even rule and what not! I do understand that levels are high. But at the end, you have Engineers, you've got money, ask them to create such devices which suck in the bad air, and purify it. It's a simple concept, with technical challenges (which the engineers can well handle).
It's high time we use Science and technology to help us with our crises. Cutting down on number of vehicles running per day is a temporary solution. Next year, again the SPM rises and again Delhi is in the midst of an issue. And not to mention, the most sufferers are the children. They'll develop issues like COPD at a very early age.
