Not really. China has been planting trees for more than half a century. It has no effect on the air quality in Beijing. What made the difference is the stopping of coal plants in the Beijing area.
@magnetospin Don't you have any shame to lie so blantantly? You can clearly see the yellow haze in all pictures of 'smog' that she showed. That's cause a good part of Beijing's pollution came from sand storms, which is why Shanghai and Guangzhou don't have that much smog, even tho they have as many people and industry as Beijing, so saying decreasing ICE car made such a difference is ridiculous, cause Beijing doesn't have more cars than the other 2, and there's no coal plan near to justify either. The fact, that westerns love to ignore cause it contradict their lies, is most improvements came from reforestation of Gobi desert and the decease of sand storms. But is hard for your 'China is dirt' propaganda to admit that is caused by nature, so I understand the dishonest, I wouldn't expect anything else from you guys.
I still remember like yesterday, Beijing was mocked in GTA 5 game's radio station in 2014. But within a decade, a massive improvement. This is a government that takes criticisms and actually works on improvising. But the so called democracies will have a never ending problem. Like Delhi is only getting worse than what it was a decade ago.
@jo marc Chaque projet de loi et résolution en Chine est obtenu en sollicitant largement l'opinion du peuple, en passant par l'Assemblée populaire nationale par le biais d'un vote et en le remettant au gouvernement populaire pour sa mise en œuvre.
This improvement is terrific. Air pollution has gotten terrible in Dallas/ Fort Worth, Texas. Every day, if the temperature rises above 85 degrees fahrenheit, DFW falls under an ozone action alert level orange to level red. ( Level red does not come up much. Our government does not want to admit the severity of this problem.)
We visited China in September 2018. Contrary to what I expected, I noticed the air quality was surprisingly good. We visited Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xian and Chongqing and we had a marvelous time there, can't wait to go back to China again.
I know that many people hate chinese government but gosh they do things really efficiently and they have a clear goal and plan for the future. I wish my country had a goverment like this , all they do is talk never do anything
Democracies are a failure. They just don't realize it yet. You can't have different groups arguing if you want things done. The US has been trying to get one high speed rail up and running for decades now. As of today, nothing. And every 3-5 years, the cost doubles. They need more "research" and more "discussion". So be it.
It makes sense. A developing country is primarily concerned with getting their people out of poverty, even if they have to use cheap polluting fuels like coal without any particle scrubbers. Once people get wealthy though, they start to desire things like cleaner air and better energy sources. China has gotten incredibly wealthy, especially since 2008, so it's no surprise that the government in the capitol city responded to that higher status by enacting stricter pollution controls.
I was in Beijing in 2010, honestly it was horrible. But in 2019 I did a transit in Beijing and stayed in Beijing for days and I was amazed by the blue skies. China really made significant progress in reducing pollution.
So to sum it up, the transition from coal to other energy sources, the push to lessen combustion vehicles and stricter policies regarding pollution helped with this smog problem.
Massive afforestation in Beijing suburbs and Inner Mongolia helps improve the air quality drastically Hope more man made forests could be created in the future ❤
China's experience with poor air quality as it vigorously pursued industrial development was very much similar to that of the UK in the late 19th century AND in the USA in the greater part of the 20th century. If I remember correctly, the word smog originated in the UK, combining the words smoke and fog. In the 70's, the Los Angeles County area had periodic air quality alert days, when the nearby San Gabriel mountains were barely visible from a short distance. But the air quality in the UK and the USA has vastly improved, though there are still periodic violations of standards, especially during episodes of weather conducive to ozone and PM2.5 formation. So, congratulations to China for its improved air quality WHICH was achieved in record time. Bravo!🤓
The contribution of Clean Coal Technology should not be neglected. It signifcantly reduces the emissions from the coal sector. The rapid growth of EVs in China is another unsung hero.
Liu Xiaoxian failed to recognize the significant contribution of reforestation in north-west China. Reforestation holds down the soil against water and wind erosion. Before the massive reforestation of NW China, the strong winter wind would carry the fine sand and soil particle eastward toward Beijing. The combination of coal combustion particles and the fine soil particles in the air would blanket Beijing when the wind stagnates around Beijing. Due to massive and aggressive reforestation in NW China, the eastward wind carries much less fine soil particles into Beijing.
Thanks for everyone's hard work to improve the environment back in the motherland. Sad western media never report positive things and achievement of China. Well, like what they hide about Israel-Palestine conflict in past decades, we should not be surprised I guess :) Thanks again.
It's better but still can't be considered good. Here in Shanghai I have to clean up dust off the surface of my furnitures every week but when I was living in Sydney I only needed to do it every 3 month or so... I guess it's the price to pay when the country is over-populated.
The next goal China should set, is smoking. I hate it when I eat at a restaurant and people at the next table is smoking. When I was visiting China 4 years ago, my asthma got worse. In my Country, South Africa, we have banned smoking in all indoor venues. Eg shopping malls, restaurants, offices, buses. Even at outdoor sports stadium, spectators have to smoke at designated areas.
The West still views things like this as imaginary issues. A clean environment is a good investment, as it directly improves a populace's intelligence, happiness, and stability. Clean environments also help with tourism, investment, and soft-power.
China has made massive steps in curtailing coal consumption, however the statistics she gave are bit misleading. The coal use simply is less concentrated, the amount of coal China uses hasn't gone down, the growth has just stagnated. The next big thing would be to get coal consumption down in the whole country, but that will take some time. Regardless, great progress!
she is not misleading China shut down many old coal power plants and China’s new coal-fired power plants are cleaner than anything operating in the United States.
The target is to improve air quality while minimalise the impact on the economy. For the last few years, the govt just cheese through by maintaining energy supply but improved filtration, afforestation even in the desert area, developing green technologies, monitoring the air quality and so on. 60% improvement in air quality over a decade is acceptable, but more need to be done.

@@JuraganEmas The overall emissions from China's coal use hasn't gone down but slightly up. The coal plants have been removed from being immediately near some cities and that has greatly improved their air quality. That's big improvement but in terms of ecology, it isn't that much. China itself is estimating that peak coal will happen in year 2030 in China. Thus any meaningful impact(downwards) on overall emissions will be after that. The reason is, like you said, economy. They need time to switch to alternative methods but they are still, as of now, dependent on coal.
I doubt China needs your approval to do anything LOL. As if it concerns you hahahahaha

Not exactly true despite the US starting several decades earlier... CNN - About 1 in 4 people in the United States - more than 119 million residents - live with air pollution that can hurt their health and shorten their lives, according to a new report from the American Lung Association. People of color are disproportionately affected, as are residents of Western cities. Since President Richard Nixon signed the Clean Air Act in 1970, emissions of outdoor air pollutants have fallen 78%, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. But Wednesday’s 2023 State of the Air report, which focuses on ozone and particle pollution, shows that millions put their health on the line every time they step outside.
Reforrestation in the Western regions is a great step by China to improve air quality and the environment
Practically no country in the world has the courage to plant trees in a desert on a massive scale.
Not really. China has been planting trees for more than half a century. It has no effect on the air quality in Beijing. What made the difference is the stopping of coal plants in the Beijing area.

現階段, 問題已轉成蒙古, 沒有它參與解決不到核心;
海水不淡化+沙漠蒸發量大, 同樣是支出大於回報;
要找巴基斯坦(巴基斯坦自己都不夠淡水, 就算未來淡化的回報優於成本也是先惠及自己國家), 不如自己大力發展和優化滴灌技術, 最大效率使用淡水資源;
要找俄合作不如取貝加爾湖水而不是海參崴, 用海參崴的水不如直接從渤海淡化
日韓不可能分擔費用, 支出大於回報;
