Are these concepts applicable also when you are in a muay Thai or boxing stance? What are the adjustments? Do these drills work also on the ground and/or with your back against the wall?

This guy is showing you the external mechanics. Very cool but there are levels to it. I suggest that you check out Nima King to get introduced to the internal force that powers it all. That will really blow your mind. He's in some of the Martial Man episodes and has a school in Hong Kong.

Finally a correct Bong Sau. Somewhere in the past 40 yrs the tradition has been lost. Because it was always said, “Bong Sau is seen in Transition.” You don’t throw it up as a *Block* but rather it is a transitional movement that is created by situational awareness. This video is a gem among all of TH-cam.

Both Bongs are correct, and the way I described it still not a block, but you can generate spiral force with your bong, if you have contact already, you can turn the person, unbalance them, or just jam their movement

I did the reverse same thing and learned a lot about grappling, but I used to teach Wing Chun and this is the kind of exercise I would immediately start with martial artists from other styles - that way, they come back as they can see the point of your art, and you can learn from them. A very good video.

Wow, thanks for the Video, man! What a great teacher!
By the way: Now have a look at okinawan Karate again. Because this is the distance, most of the "katas" are really meant for. Example 13:51: Your reaction leads to a position EXACTLY teached this way by Gojus Kata "Shisochin". Give it a quick research, you will see by yourself easyly.
In Okinawa this type of (chisao-like) exercises are called "Kakie". Without knowing (and practicing) this type of contact and close distance, Karate and its Katas would be senseless indeed.

I would like to see more videos with this Ving Tsun teacher because he is excellent. I noticed IIan constantly tried to show this teacher what he does with his grappling or striking as the Sifu is trying to teach. There is a time and place for that but not when you are getting a lesson from another teacher. I realize this current generation did not learn that or possibly could not understand that. Even with that Sifu Milos continued to make the lesson/demo work for youtube. But a lot of Sifu's would say something like are you here to learn or are you here to teach me what you do? I am sure IIan is a very nice guy and he does not realize its disrespectful to constantly show what you do when your in an actual lesson but empty your cup man with all respect.🙏

I understand where you're coming from entirely, however, part of this video was to help Ilan understand how to close the mid gap range WT style. Anyways, it greatly showed how well WT can compliment other styles such as BJJ in this case. I myself think it was actually rather impressive to see Ilan follow through with his own attacks or takedowns after such a brief introduction to chi sau-- you can tell he is a very skilled martial artist in his own right and I don't think he was there for just a straight and pure WT lesson or else I'm sure he would have emptied his cup and taken in the lesson itself more.

@MYVLMA exactly Sifu, I'd say WC is a "clinch striking concept" fighting and in many aspects it's not taught as such and can cause confusion

I mean…this is beautiful but not functional. There have been zero serious kung fu champions in MMA. IF you train this and get into a street fight with a high school wrestler…they’re gonna beat yo arse! This would work with a drunken bar idiot…maybe. If you’re only going to train 1 martial art it better be jiu jitsu. It’s the only 1 that offers replicable results regardless of Body type or power. If you can train two or 3….Jits, wrestling, muythai, and maybe a little boxing. Then your Batman. Leave the kung fu for the movies. It’s where it belongs….along with Aikido.

I take your point, but bear in mind that MMA is a sport, and WC is only designed to hurt people. You can't use an eye gouge or a throat strike in MMA, both of which are standard parts of WC. The principle problem I have with using JJ in a street-fight is that if you have more than one adversary, or are on the ground, and the person you are fighting has friend, you have a problem.

@@KBJ58You have a problem if you’re outnumbered and alone regardless. Good idea to run not fight in those scenarios. 2 slightly competent guys are gonna beat yo whatever trained arse. In any case…if you are going to train 1 martial art you are far better with grappling. If you want to really learn how to defend yourself a competent MMA program which mostly incorporates Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, and Muy Thai…in which I have trained all 3. Lastly I would say …I grew up in chicago in riot gang style fighting. I was actually charged with Mob Action as a kid which is 5 or more people fighting. That’s how bad the gang violence is out there…there’s a law to combat it. I was a good wrestler (placed in state) and all my friends were Jiu Jitsu practicioners under Bob Schermer. We never had a problem. Like we smoked everyone. I’ve been jumped by gangs of bloods, crypts, 4 corner hustlers, mobbed up cats, etc. Even my high school wrestling was no match for grown men. I’ve had to run plenty of times when by myself but I’ve tuned up several people at once with grappling and a group of us was always dominating. If you tried to use some nonsense like wing chun in the streets of chicago you would be talking funny at this point. It’s not functional. Fighting is messy and chaotic not beautiful. You must have a foundation that works on world class guys. We already know the functional list and kung fu ain’t on it. As I told the master here…It’s style points or sneak attacks at best. Like a reversal in football…it never works but if you catch someone off guard…touchdown! I could see busting out some wing chun or Aikido crazy technique to surprise someone…and that may work once and a while but it’s not repeatable and hence not very functional. if you build a self defense foundation on something like Aikido or Kung Fu you’re building a house of cards that a good high school wrestler could blow over. Listen…I’ve blown them over personally. I smashed a kung fu cat in Boston…tried to claw my eyes out with that stupid technique. I double legged him and head butted him and SCENE that was it.
This is not controversial. The experiment has been done. I just hate to see this nonsense perpetuated. It’s gonna get you or others you think you can protect hurt.
