    I used your 15,000btu tutorial and now I'm using this 8,000btu tutorial. Both videos are so incredibly easy to follow along with. I don't know if I could have done these ACs without you, sir (especially the 15,000btu). Thank you so much!

    *Totally impressive **Fastly.Cool** in my room. Wish I designed this myself. We can’t believe how quiet it is. It’s not as heavy as our last AC unit but it works more evenly and efficiently. Extremely happy with this purchase.*

    Lots of excellent information in this video, especially for someone who has never installed an AC before. Really appreciated the tidbit at the very end in regards to water accumulation in the unit and how modern units do not actively drip the way older units do. My problem is the window I'm putting the unit in is wider than the curtains provided can accommodate for. I've tried to figure it out from recommendations I've found here and there and this video gave me a lot of great information I hadn't seen elsewhere, but obviously it didn't help in that regard since the window he installed it in is so narrow. If anyone is daunted by the length, just put the video on and do laundry, dishes, etc and you'll hear something useful in time.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @stevehaluska5645

      My window is too wide as well. Question: how did you resolve that problem?

    • @StellarLunar
      @StellarLunar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevehaluska5645 I ended up having to get air conditioner extending panels from amazon. I got a variety of foam and vinyl just to see what would work. You can cut them to size to fit the gap in your window. Don't forget to purchase weather stripping and weather sealing tape for windows to cover any spaces that are left.

    What exactly is the correct downward slope ( 1/2 a bubble on the level You used ? 1/4 bubble ? ) I missed you detailing that I guess ? And if it is not correct how can it be adjusted ? The inst book does not give good directions at all - I'm old school and will never feel comfortable balancing the Unit in the window frame in the first place - Evidently that is how they are designed in the modern world - Thanks for your explicit Video Michael - answered most of my questions

  • @SP-yq4xq
    @SP-yq4xq ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Please do not drill holes in your vinyl or metal windows if you are a renter or homeowner who will eventually sell the house without replacing the windows! Filling those holes with caulk or putty doesn't repair the damage like you can do with wood, it only masks it. This video is for people who are installing window a/c in a home they own and plan to stay in and don't mind ugly holes showing if they remove the unit during winter months. Big box stores sell clamp on side locks to prevent the window from being pushed up or you can simply use a wood dowel or similar cut the length from the top of the window to the top of the frame to hold the window down tightly. This will prevent it from falling out. If a bad guy really wants to get into your home, he's going to get in. A few small screws will not stop him from pushing the unit in and damaging your window in the process or kicking in your door - most door locks will fail with enough force, just as a hard enough push/kick to a window a/c will take it out. The key is to keep the darn thing from falling outward and harming someone on the ground and damaging the side of your home. As long as the bottom is in the channel and the top is secured so the window won't lift, you're fine. If your window doesn't have a bottom channel, or you live on the second floor or higher, or you're installing a larger/heavier unit of greater than 75 lbs, there are no drill support brackets that are easy to install and hold the weight - just don't use them with vinyl siding as all the pressure on the one or two small feet will crack your siding. If you have vinyl siding and need a support bracket, you'll need to take measures to spread the weight on the feet over a larger area by putting a length of 2x4 behind them or will need to use a screw in bracket that screws onto the outside sill preventing ugly and damaging holes on the inside of the window.

  • @jukesi1408
    @jukesi1408 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I will never drill a hole for the safety tabs as a couple narrow pieces of other left-over material can be cut to length to jam the window down onto the unit - with that in mind, one need not drill thru the window frame in the center of the unit either - jamming it down with the cut to length pieces covers that problem also - I also do not like the accordion flaps for the sides of most units to make them a more universal fit for window size - I use painted to match plywood inserts in ours -

    What about the exterior? Does the a/c needs to have a lot of space so the hot air that comes out circulates ? Cause I just bought the 5,000 smaller version but the exterior part of the unit is in a very small place with no ventilation and the cold air we can barely feel it it cools down the room but for like 15 minutes then the air comes out like in fan mode. Does the outside of the unit needs to be in an open space

    I had to install the insallation that came with my model and I put the two thicker parts on the sides of the ac and the thin piece at the top and folded it over and my room is much warmer. That's what the thicker parts are for. They fit nicely between the window cracks where the two slides on the left and right of the ac are and you slide it into the installation. Idiot guy came to my house from management and didn't do it. Room probably would've been extremely way colder if I did it but it was getting UTTERLY cold in my room since it's been stuck in the 30s here in NYC? Not sure why? Because something is off with that. It's actually way below that. Yesterday when I went outside it felt like 8. My fingers were burning and my face and also slept with my coat on yesterday..

      No doubt you have already solved this problem. Been HOT since then.
      As other commenters have said, I would not drill into the frame at all. Too much chance of cracking the glass. That said, maybe your bit isn't sharp any more. Or maybe you could start with a smaller bit and work your way up to the correct size.

    Never Never NEVER drill in screws... unless you want to have lower sale value. Zero need for this unless your house if full of clumsy people.
    There are NOT permanent ACs... New AC will not match up.
    Lastly if they want in... the AC pops out. those screws do NOTHING. it just makes people feel safe.

    • @benjimenez5186
      @benjimenez5186 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Two things to think of man. 1st with the unit you want it angle down outside and not level. So the a$$ end outside should hang at a slight angle. At minute 23:40. 2nd also at minute 23:40 he tells you about the condenser coil. It is meant for the oil in the ac unit as well as the freon. But its not made to hold water. So with condensation it will accumulate water and start to sweat. So make sure you have that angle and you should be peachy.
