    *Works so well **Fastly.Cool** that it only requires daytime operation until high temp and humidity are overnight. It is difficult to get to side filters, but back is easily accessible.*

    This video is basically necessary to understand how to install one of these things. The included instructions are almost entirely useless and have next to no details about any of the things shown in the video.
    Examples of where the video is vastly superior to the included instructions:
    1) Explaining that you will likely need power tools to install the window kit
    2) Showing you how to actually use the adhesive foam (where to stick it and how much of it to use)
    3) Explaining the purpose of the non-adhesive foam
    4) Telling you that you need to screw the window kit into the frame/sash, and that doing so may require you to pre-drill some holes
    5) Showing you how, why, and where to install the security bracket
    6) Being clear that you will need tools (like a saw or Dremel) to cut the spacer in the window kit to the correct size, if it doesn't fit your window
    7) Detailing the purpose of the included hose and what the various drain holes on the back of the unit are for
    The included instructions are basically “draw two circles, then draw the rest of the owl.” If you aren't an appliance guy already, you've got no chance of getting the installation correct without a video like this, and the efficiency of a poorly-installed unit is significantly less than one which is installed well.

    Doesn't having to screw it to the window kind of defeat the purpose of it being portable?

    • @davidmcrae6922
      @davidmcrae6922 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Depends on how often you want to move it I suppose. I leave mine in the one spot all summer. There are only 4 screws....2 into the window frame and 2 into the window sash. They can be removed in 2 minutes at the end of the season & stored away with your unit for next year. The advantage to the screws is that they lead to a 'solid' installation (not flimsy) and are critical to sealing

    • @josephtein3835
      @josephtein3835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't understand how you "kind of" defeat anything... you either do or you don't. This is portable because you can move it around from room to room; the whole unit is not attached to the window, just the insert that lets you vent the hot air. Plus... you don't have to permanently screw the screen into the frame anyway. Also, you can buy just the insert for a second
      window or door and install that; this would really make it portable.

    • @jessicah3450
      @jessicah3450 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's more portable than a window unit, so easier to install and uninstall at the end of the summer, especially on a second floor window.

    • @outdrsgrl
      @outdrsgrl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. . had to improvise using rubber sealing adhesive to fill in gap between window panel and window, and self adhesive mounting squares to make it stick to the window. (No foam insulation came with my portable ac unit). Used a window lock to hold window shut, however, it won't hold the window closed perfectly. . the whole setup doesn't work very well. Besides, what type of foam insulation would you buy for this unit?

    • @williammason9789
      @williammason9789 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use the same AC unit in my travel trailer. Windows slide right to left.
      Simple resolution, instead of installing horizontally, turn the thing 90° and install it vertically.
      To block the window "closed", I simply got a 1"x 6" board, cut to length to fit. Holds it perfectly.

I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

    Nice video. However, is it just me or is there no explanation about the clear plastic hose that’s about 2 feet long and three-quarter inch diameter? He mentioned it when he unpacked the box but I don’t believe there is any explanation for its purpose. I’m sure it’s a drain, but I’m not sure if/when you would need to use it if only using the device for cooling air. My set up was rather difficult. I called the Frigidaire number and got some woman who kept telling me that the whole unit has to go up into the window! She never did understand that it’s a floor unit on wheels. At one point she actually told me I need to get new windows to be able to use the unit😆! Anyway, it’s up and running and works very well. Thanks for the video!

    Very helpful. However, there was not enough clearance from the sill of my window to the oval opening for the connector “cup” to snap in. (There is plenty of clearance for the window shown in the video.) I had to turn the slider assembly upside down (opening then on left, not right) and snap the connector “cup” into the oval opening essentially upside down from the standard installation. Since the drill holes no longer fit this reversed scenario, I used a heavy duty white tape to hold the slider in place. I hope this holds once the unit is turned on and begins to vibrate a bit. Otherwise, all seems good!

The instructions state that it’s not necessary to attach a condensation drain line when using it as an AC since it utilizes the condensed water to help cool the unit. Per the instructions on Dry Mode “ please be sure that the height of the drain and the section of the drain hose should not be higher than that of the drain outlet or the continuous drainage may not work properly” sounds like it may not work for your situation. I’ve seen some folks place the hose in a 5 gallon bucket instead of running it outside

      It has a pump on the top drain output it will pump water at least 3 feet from the drain. However if in cool mode the water will flow out on the floor if the bottom drain isn't going into a pan or something.

    • @hahna77
      @hahna77 ปีที่แล้ว

      It says on the instructions that as long as the window is less than 16 ft above the drain opening than it's fine. But let me say from experience to check to make sure it's draining at regular intervals.

    Ok, can someone explain to me what the thin line tubing is meant for? I watched the video, but I'm a little confused on the main purpose for it. Am I extracting water or some type of fluid while running the AC?

    • @masterinsan0
      @masterinsan0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thin tubing is only needed if you have one of the units that has the heating functionality (in addition to cooling). Apparently you need to run the line out the window if you're running heat because you want to dispose of the water build-up. There's a special hole in the window kit just for that line. If you're only using it for cooling or if your unit doesn't have heating functionality, you don't need the thin tube. Mine came with a thicker-walled, flexible clear plastic tube... I don't actually know what that one is for. Maybe for draining it before storage?

      Nope! If you decide to use the heat feature (if your unit has this option) then you might have to raise the screen up a smidge to run the drainage tube out the window… but otherwise you can totally keep the screen in the window.

    Yeah, I have the same question as Karl and Ben! What’s with the switch-up when the video fades out and back in while connecting the exhaust vent to the opening in the window?? The vent part that’s connecting to the window opening just went from a rectangle to a circular style. Which one is for real and why did you switch it up mid-video? My confidence about this unit just went down a few notches! It makes no sense! Feels like a car salesman’s tactic. Please explain. Other than that weird switch, it’s a good video. Thanks!

    • @janetcooke384
      @janetcooke384 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fade out is because the connection isn't as easy as it looks, not REALLY difficult just a 3 on the 1-10 frustration scale. And, otherwise, it is easy peasy.

    • @MattKeller
      @MattKeller 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not switched out it's simply rotated 180 degrees (upside down) because of poor design. The clips aren't strong enough to hold it how he initially puts it on due to gravity. It'll stay in place but ya gotta fiddle with it a bit. May need some glue, a wedge or a screw depending on your setup.
