    Holy $**t! The guys on the police boat were decent enough enough (the not knowing sucked) But coming in at night, under the bridge, and then finding your berth.....i can't even imagine. Great job navigating all of that.... you made it look easy but we know it wasn't! Wew!

      Yes, the night arrival was more difficult than hanging out with the Police.

    You may want to try monitoring ch 13 (bridge to bridge) to make passing arrangements. Remember, if large vessels can operate 24/7 in congested waters and depart and arrive in darkness, you can too. Also cruising guides, charts and sailing directions show restricted waters, and give instructions for clearing in and out. Chart plotters are great, but mariners need more than that. Unfortunately professional mariners despise recreational boaters in general, but if we pleasure craft people mimic us professional mariners things go better. Thanks for great vids. I’m subscribing.

    The fact is that going sailing around the world is not simply a matter of travelling with the aid of electronic means: there are rules, laws, convenctions, uses etc all included in the appropriate "Sailing Directions multi volume enciyclopedia" along with various additional volumes attaining to all facets of sea life (buoyage system, lights, tides.....) These things are the daily bread of a sea captain but a minimum comprehension of procedures should be the normal behaviour of all seafahrers. The tiny screens of your plotters, the failure prone electronic devices (experience) should suggest to keep on board a minimum but vital of real nautical charts, expecially for area of difficult navigation and keep them updated. Bon voyage.

    You just need to sail closer to the shipping lanes to stay out of Singapore waters. There is only a few hundred meters between the shipping lanes and the Singapore border. I’ve sailed the straight 3 times last year without any issues. The police boats did come right up to our boat but cannot legally do anything until crossing into their waters.

    you are right. When sailing through waters of a country and not going to or coming from that country, they may not even impede (hinder) your vessel. It is called "the right of innocent passage".

    • @SailingAquarius
      @SailingAquarius  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA does not think that way, but almost every other country in the world does. Just an innocent error. :)

    Thanks for the video, I follow many yachting couples and not many talk about or go into detail about these issues you experienced. Eventually someday I’d get a sailing boat and would like to know w more detail what the police or border patrol can or can not do. Are they allowed to board your vessel? Do they have the rights to search you or your boat?

    • @SailingAquarius
      @SailingAquarius  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know the exact laws. I would think if you're in open ocean no one should board your boat. But, if you're in a countries territorial water, then I would expect they have the right to board your boat. That said, it would be tough to say "NO" to a boat asking to board you when they are pointing a 50 cal at you!

    I have been stopped several times by the River Thames Police, once I refused for them to come aboard as they had put up such a wash. They were not happy as I did this on my radio, now every one on the river knew the police boat was about.
    When the water had calmed an officer came aboard and asked why we had used the radio, I explained well that's what boaters use!!!
    I added I have no problem with police checks, but I do have a problem having a boat charge at me against the tide, then do a 180 and go full astern to slow. Very poor seaman ship. Bare in mind my wooden boat was built in 1930.

      Sailing Aquarius Around The World There is a restricted live firing area immediately to the west of P Sudong which is adjacent to the south eastern corner of the Sinki Fairway. It extends south and covers Pawai and Senang and ends at the Raffles lighthouse. With the border being so close to land, Singapore is highly sensitive and tracks everything and everyone. They are currently installing almost island wide floating barrier to the coast. I wouldn’t take it personally, we all get spoken to! Missed you in Nongsa a few weeks ago. Safe travels!
