Call me a shill or a Rocksteady Stan, but I would've paid $100 for a Batman Beyond Arkham game. A map this big and varied with Riddler stuff and races and just gliding around punching bad guys with future tech, doing team ups with Ace the Bat-hound, and Kevin Conroy doing Old Man Bruce one last time, passing the torch to Terry (and symbolically US the player, WE become the Batman)
playing this game just seems like it would be sensory exhausting. all those explosions and moving around. my thumbs hurt just from watching the traversal too. thank you for putting in the hours so I didn't have to.
Honestly, I still think it looks like a lot of fun. However, that's because I like playing games like Saints Row 4, Warframe, and nodded Just Cause which are high speed spectacles. I might pick the game up, but at a lower price point
@@Fernando-ek8jpI bought the deluxe edition and i really enjoy the gameplay I just feel it needs a few tweaks and game modes to really reach being on a level of fun like Warframe
26:20 You’re still factually wrong though. WW is the ONLY member of the JL who doesn’t have a “no killing” rule. The idea of the Squad treating her death any better than another member of the League is literally moronic because she’s the only one of them that actually WOULD murk one of the Squad without hesitation. The fact that the game implies Harley was with Ivy means that Harley’s at the point in her life where she’s realized that Joker was abusive so she not only doesn’t give a sh** about him anymore, but actively hates him. Also, Captain Boomerang is actually one of the few villains who has a code of honor, he’s literally never wanted to kill the Flash, he sees him as more of an inconvenience not “I hate this man so want to piss on his corpse”. This game doesn’t just disrespect the antagonists who died, it spits on the lore of the main characters themselves.
It gets SOOOO many Facts about these Characters and World that its almost impossible to remember them all. It just shows that neither DC, WB, or their Parent Company care about Consistency of the IP anymore. DC is just a Product to License out to sell Merch. What they seemed to have forgotten is Fans care about the Lore, and its Fans that Buy the Merch.
I find it hilarious that Harley Quinn is given the moral high ground when she’s lecturing Batman like she isn’t responsible for the deaths of thousands including children.
In general giving suicide squad any kind of moral high ground is laughable as most of them are mass murdering lunatics its the reason why DC trying to turn them into a guardians of the galaxy equivalent doesn't work because they are not in any way relatable.
She is a literal lunatic that spent the last 5 years in a mental hospital. Literally, what is confusing about her having fucked up morals? Its her entire thing, she was a doctor before she fell in love with Joker and went crazy, her craziness is literally what Harley Quinn is, and her lectering Batman is literally her being insane, like the game starts with her using a dead body as a prop with whom she talks to, she is literally crazy
Everything about this game made me want to admit myself to a hospital for life support. Where the game lost me wish when BATMAN leaves his Justice League killing devices just laying around. This man had contingency plans for every single member going rouge, and the fact he'd just leave them behind, vulnerable is insane. And Harley has the audacity to try and dress him down at the end. Killing Arkham Batman was also such a spit in the face... Also they show Flash capable of literally pulling "you dont even know you're dead yet" on Lex, but the squad gets to run him around ? I get this game doesnt exist if they cant put up a fight, but the narrative dissonance is crazy.
So much potential with this idea. It doesnt help that if you dont follow Rocksteady closely (or gaming news in general), the key employees left the company. I honestly didnt know this until a few days ago
I wasn't disappointed, I knew it would be terrible the moment the 'live service' curse was uttered. All the other stuff makes it's inevitable failure much funnier, though!
Surprisingly, I don't really want the game to fail because it could spell doom for Rocksteady, but if the game succeeds, then they'll be incentivized to make more things like this. Really is no good outcome here.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 Agreed, as someone who much prefers to enjoy a good game it does sting a little. All I can do is imagine a timeline where we got Arkham Batman Beyond as Kevin Conroys last big hurrah. Arkham Knight even had an amazing Batman Beyond suit that looks like the suit he'd have worn when realising he was getting too old and had to hang up the cowl.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 The people who worked on the games we like will most likely contniue working in the industry. I dont mind Rocksteady going down if the alternative is this
I don't know ow why they bother, warframe exists and it's still getting updates. And it's probably gonna have most of the coop movement shooter player base for at least another 5 years
It’s so weird that we got two live service “Batman” games in the last year where the point is either killing the heroes or the hero “dying”. It would be so nice just to get a really good Arkham style Batman game in current gen.
Suicide Squad really feels like it embodies some of the worst ideas and trends of current gaming (and media, in general). It's not really a surprise that the final result is below average and not given a chance by people. I'm not touching this, if only because no part of the gameplay is compelling enough to stick with for hours, which is the biggest problem for a live-service game. And for all of the "it's not that bad" people have said in the Suicide Squad's defense, I think many of the people who reflexively do that are missing the context of what this game is. No, it's not "THE Worst". But it IS a $70 live-service game with a rocky launch, when there are more appealing options for less (Helldivers 2 just launched for $40 on Steam), that has underwhelmed since the first gameplay showing.
Using Helldivers2 as an example of a better choice when condemning this game for a broken technical launch is a pretty odd choice. That game has a heavy rootkit, won't even launch for many people, and has sizable tech issues for many who do play it, and still does oddly implimented battlpass live service stuff.
@@_-Lx-_ It's a choice I would make in terms of co-op shooters, because in spite of the issues Helldivers 2 is having, I would still sooner pay $40 for that than drop $70 on Suicide Squad. And if only because that game looks far more appealing, as low of a bar that is.
im honestly baised as i generally hate the idea of suicide squad and the modern version of harly quinn... I'm not the biggest super hero fan in general but do prefer DC. that being said when I saw this was going to be a looter shooter and saw the early gameplay last year I knew it was going to be bad.. this developer makes great games it is very disappointing.
I honestly can’t understand why this isn’t a f2p game … a lot of the hate would be forgivable if it weren’t a full priced AAA game trying to justify the new 70$ price tag
Compare the replayability of Elden ring to this… I would gladly have paid twice the selling price for Elden ring the amount I’ve played it, but wouldn’t spend half of what suicide squad is asking to try it . Game pass or nothing for this
I legit don't know what they were thinking. I understand they spent 5 years and a lot of money, and it came a point where they couldnt back down, but what were they thinking when they came up with these ideas in the first place?
old rocksteady didnt make this game. rumors say their version was scrapped and finaly product is what we see. a game based on check list, white board and shareholders ideas
I personally find Flash's death much more distasteful. Batman's was annoying but in more of an immerison breaking way. Flash was genuinely disgusting. He actually saves you twice in game one of which costs him his life/freedom. He even does that after they torture him, try to abandon him and cut off his thumb. Then he gets pissed on after an unceremonious death. Not to mention he was mind controlled, Brainiac's mind control has never been total. It's always been reversible but no one addresses that other than Wonder Woman. Meanwhile Wonder Woman (who is one of my favourite characters) is wildly unhelpful, attacks you in your first meeting, is exceptionally dismissive, rejects any offer to work together and even locks you up. But when she dies they cry for her? Of you're going to have disrespectful deaths, then be consistent with them. The "but they're villians!" Thing doesnt work for this game, especially not for Flash's rogues.
>You get to fight Batman again but he's blue It's incredible how on-point South Park was describing multiverses as an infinite pants and shirts combinations
The look of all the menus reminds me of those bad mobile games designed to trick you. There are so many currencies, so many different colours everywhere that it has very little cohesion anywhere to be found.
Not worth 70$ at all if anything should of released like fortnite and give ppl a chance to see if they like the new gameplay especially coming from arkham night and city
I've played games my entire life since I was a kid, this is the first game i've ever seen where some of the gameplay on youtube genuinely made me nauseous looking at is, its genuinely that unpleasant to watch, I can't imagine ever playing it.
Characters dying isn't the problem, HOW they die is the problem. People just dont like the idea of a protag of the previous 4 titles not having a honorable death.
I think the narrative that “single player games aren’t worth the investment” is a vastly incorrect view point for publishers to take. We’ve seen some pretty massive single player games in the last couple of years. Hogwarts made about 879 million dollars, according to Warner Bros. Baldur’s Gate 3 sold an insane amount of copies, and no doubt made Larian money, as well as an even bigger heap of good will. Elden Ring was wildly successful, selling a buttload of copies and hailed as one of the greatest games of the last decade. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were both massively successful games, with Tears only being outsold by Hogwarts. Sony first party games still sell a massive amount, and are typically hailed as pretty spectacular games. But I guess that Destiny and Fortnite chase is real.
Single Player games still make money, but their potential is limited. Live-Service games have a higher risk, but a much higher reward. Selling more content and keeping players playing for years is far more lucrative for studios than the odds that they'll find success with a single-player game every few years. I definitely don't agree with that line of thinking, but I believe this is how they rationalize it.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 Well I guess that high risk didn't pay for WB because this game has been ripped apart by alienated fans who waited 9 years for a game from this studio. It's made worse finding that *this* is the type of game Rocksteady wanted to make.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 A core reason they fail so often now, Is every single other game is attempting to cannabalise each other. The market is overflooded, so only the 1% or such retain an audience.
the funny thing that they don’t tell you is that live service games become stagnant after the initial part of each season and player base drops. Even destiny 2 players hate destiny and where it’s at right now. I used to play and was only chasing the platinum in the game. Did that and then deleted it from my PS5. I’ll jump back again for the conclusion of the Final Shape.
So if the Braniac boss fight was the flash, is it safe to assume the other 5 Brainiac boss fights to be added down the line will be reskins of the other fights?
See now I just want a cool Green Lantern game. I'm pretty sure Kevin Conroy will be one of the Batmen in the new Crisis movie, so thankfully this shouldn't be his last role.
WB wants those whales paying 30+ dollars for a single skin over and over, and they are apparently willing to possibly destroy one of the best SP game developers in the business to attempt it. And based on current player numbers they may have, all just to chase trends like battlepasses and 40 dollar skins, bah! God I hate games as a service. It's almost literally just the FTP game market model, but instead of not having to pay to play, you have to pay full price on top of the mobile style real money in game stores.
I watched all the cutscenes in a video on youtube. The story seems to crap its own pants around the time they decide to do the Earth-2 section, come back, and meander around until they need to hand-wave any of these guys not immediately being turned into a puddle by evil superman. then the game remembers you have to fight brainiac and that you haven't really interacted with him at all... and its just the flash fight again for some reason. The gameplay looks terrible. Bad 3rd person shooting that seems like it's trying to almost be one of those hero-shooters that were all the rage 5 years ago. Combined with Infamous. The interesting part of the premise is the title: fighting the justice league. But you made that the worst part of the game: they feel like a disneyland experience rather than a real fight? like, a fight with the flash should be a city-wide affair where you have no idea where he's even hitting you from. Superman should be throwing skyscrapers at you while you struggle to even fathom a way to get close enough to touch him... the cutscene before you fight him in this game shows his lasers cutting through concrete: then you use cover to get around his lasers. THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE FROM THE RULES THE GAME JUST SHOWED YOU! Ultimately I don't understand why this is a game. You make a game when you have a good gameplay idea: "wouldn't these bossfights be fun to play out" "Wouldn't having 4 completely different playstyles be interesting" "wouldn't it be cool to think up unique movement systems for these 4 individuals" and its like... this should have been a miniseries on prime or something if you couldn't make the game part of the video game. The fact that it's a game made the story parts weaker, too (bossfight in disneyland) and then you kill the boss, to learn that you accomplished nothing, and the squad has to go do this thing 10 more times. If its supposed to be sequel bait then they set up the most boring sequel of all time... It's a very shiny turd. Just... horrible to touch, and kinda fun to look at.
I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could be disappointed when a game that looked and sounded this bad from the beginning, did in fact, turn out to be bad. I will say though that it's disappointing that this was made by Rocksteady. They've tarnished their reputation irreparably.
No, people aren't angry that you 'Kill the Justice League', it's the obvious disrespect and lack of knowledge about the characters. Boomerang? In most comic iterations past the silver age, Boomerang does not hate The Flash, nor does he want to kill him. Transparently, the only Justice League member shown respect, able to avoid being controlled, was Wonder Woman, where the Squad ignores both Waller and their own safety to offer her aid, then share a mournful moment. But when The Flash saved their life twice, they delighted in his suffering. You can say, "but they're bad guys, they're supposed to be bad people", but it's odd that they become normal, compassionate people and don't snark off when a strong woman is present, but Green Lantern gets stripped to his undies, Flash gets pissed on, and Superman barely gets a remark. Hell, even Lex's data entries talk about Wonder Woman like he's in awe of her, while we get some passive-aggressive racism when he remarks on Jon Stewart. Just look at it for what it is. Bad writers.
I have no clue how anyone can tell what’s going on the screen. I seriously can’t keep track of enemies with ALL this STUFF on the screen, is this the most cluttered HUD to date? Seriously I would love to see a breakdown mathematically of screen space to all the big and small stuff filling up and blocking your view to other notoriously cluttered HUD games. Bet this wins.
My main problem with plot is, WHY THE HELL IS IT A ARKHAMVERSE. Like, whats the point? Would it change anything if this was just another universe? This game doesn't fit in arkham verse, anywhere. And it doesn't fit with Batman story, he had a great conclusion in Arkham Knight.
Chasing trends is impossible in an industry that evolves so rapidly. Had they focused on making a good game first and a live service entertainment software second, they wouldn't have this flop on their hands. My sympathy goes to the devs.
The only thing I give the benefit of doubt is that some day people stop buying games on day one. We need to start waiting for complete editions and sales prices to buy games so companies see that we want polish and complete games and not this mutants that they just fix along the way while they charge us with all DLC and micro transactions they can
Agreed. The ONLY time i’ll buy a game on day 1 is if I have played the first game and the developers knocked it out of the park on the first time like Arkham or Jedi Fallen Order or Insomnia’s Spider-Man
Yeah...this is kinda bad takes on the story. Given how Harley at this point understands that Batman doesn't kill hence isn't responsible for Joker's death. Flash saved them all, was trying to be helpful towards them, saved Harley twice. All while he was treated like trash. Wonder Woman treated the SS like trash, whole time until the end. Then Lex Luthor's bio on WW is just...so sooo bad, you'd think he was simping. The whole clone or revival sounds like cope tbh, if Brainiac could clone the JL, then why doesn't he keep cloning them? Why just the 1 set? How did this invasion take 3 weeks and on top of that, WW barely doing anything? At least we see the Flash putting in some effort. And Brainiac being able to just catch the SS at any time he wants but doesn't until after the JL is killed...what? It's story is just...bad and gets so much worse than giving Batman the Joel treatment.
Curiously, this feels like the inverse of another game I've played: MegaMan X DiVE Offline. This seems like a OK enough game that I still don't want to do well, because of the precedence any success with live service provides. While DiVE Offline is a not great game that I still wanted to do well, because of the precedence the success of a "Dead service" game provides. In short, they took a live service Megaman Gacha game, removed the energy systems and microtransactions, replaced the gacha with a store that uses in game currency, jacked said currency's drop rates up to something actually playable without absurd grinding or buying money, and letting you do any of the timed events whenever you want, and without the PvP or Guild aspects. And I wish more games would do this, make a less predatory version that's usable after the servers are shut down.
The writing itself I don't mind on it's own but everything else coming together really brings it down. It especially feels like a very forced rough fit for the Arkhamverse and definitely feels like a corporate decision for marketing not an authentic continuation not helped by the fact many of Rocksteady staff left soon after this game started having behind the scenes issues.
26:20 i think the problem people have with the portrayal of wonderwoman vs the league is that the creators very clearly had a bias towards making her seem way better than the others, like looking at her description in game Deadshot is making her seem super amazing and saying that the rest of the world should take after themiscera, ehile comparatively he pretty much calls John Stewart a race traitor for being a "cop"
I think boomerangs traversal is good but unlike the other characters you have to stay on the ground so that he can run fast. His running is very fun, but I agree that if you are up in the air and only rely on the teleport it’s pretty boring.
I believe it's confirmed that Kevin Conroy is still Batman i the upcoming animated film Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3. Tbf you probably recorded your video prior to that statement getting revealed but I just wanted to point out that he still has a role just in case you were unaware.
I think regardless of how justified the way they killed the JL was, the market clearly resented the spiteful attitude around it. I think people are tired of cynicism. It feels like the game views the player and the JL in contempt.
25:36 We don't know what Kevin Conroy knew... Many times actors are kept in the dark about the ending. Conroy may have made different endings for the game including some for bad ending or failed missions. Nicholas Cage commented that he was acting on a green screen and didn't know he was fightting a giant spider as Superman. Conroy's last line was general about Harley's bad stand up giving little indication Conroy knew. The JLA are dead…Batman…Superman..Flash…Green Lantern and especially Wonder Woman are dead. Reason: Wonder Woman would know if it’s a copy or clone…how she mourned for Green Lantern and using the lasso on Flash to get him to confess that they had to kill them to save the world. Batman’s blood is on Harley’s face and spreading on the sidewalk. You can go into another universe and get (kidnap) their counterparts but in the end it’s not really them. They can even conjure up a 50s Happy Days Joker to call Bat-Mite and Mxyzptik to do a Deus Ex Machina to fix everything. Movies and comics have done this all the time but not in this version. Many pieces of canon has been broken. There is no fixing it. Layoffs will be a coming to RockSteady.
This is just cope. Conroy wanted to be a villain for once. He collected his paycheck. No need to be offended on someone else’s behalf when they showed no qualms about it
Lets be logical. Many actors are kept in the dark about endings, but there would be no way to keep him in the dark about this. It would be impossible. Likely every actor knew what the plot was actually about at least a little bit. This is somewhat conspiratorial thinking designed to backwards prove your emotions correct. You believe that Kevin Conroy was disrespected so you are willing to make up the idea that he had no idea about the main plot of the game even though he had to have at least read his own lines. If anything it was disrespecting batman the character not the actor.
Looking at gameplay of this game really gives me flashbacks of Anthem. Allong with all the major pitfalls that came with that game and its live service issues.
I completely agree! I don’t hate the game (apart from the login bugs since I normally don’t play always- online games and can’t stand not being able to play whenever I want). But I’m sooo disappointed in the wasted potential when thinking about the 9 year development cycle.
It's amazing that the entire industry missed Rockstar making as much money as they did with GTA 5. They launched a completed game with an iconic campaign and genuinely fun gameplay. Using the stout groundwork to later build out an ongoing online community that could be used for both continuous cash flow and player engagement while neither sabatoging the core of the game or their single player audience. I hats GTA online, but I do respect that an actual game was sold to me instead of this endless mediocrity. Great video by the way!
It's not that they killed Batman that makes it disrespectful IT'S *HOW* they killed Batman that makes it disrespectful I swear it's like the freakin last of us 2 discourse all over again
I really hate it when people try and claim we shouldnt be upset about the Story, because its the Bad Game Play that REALLY matters. Both can suck and BOTH can be Complained about. I also found it odd that he mentions how Wonder Woman is the only one they dont Disrespect because she wasnt Brainwashed, but then goes on to say that its okay they didnt Respect the others because we are Villains. You cant have it both ways.
Gotta disagree on the Batman and Wonder Woman points. With Bats it's the unceremonious nature of it all. It's poorly written and feels mean spirited. With Wonder Woman the issue isn't the narrative itself, it's why it was written that way in the first place. You're a smart guy Son, just read the character bios. The developers' intentions and reasoning are very much on display for everyone to see. Wonder Woman's narrative wasnt written to benefit the story, it was written because of silly modern day tropes that EVERYONE is tired of.
I don't think this game is disrespectful to Kevin Conroy or his legacy as Batman, that's a bit of a stretch. The characters and the performances aren't the problem with this game. Kevin Conroy wasn't writing the bad story or developing their obnoxious endgame.
It’s a comic book story, so his death could easily been undone. Only reason this is permanent is because Conroy died, and they couldn’t have foreseen that
I have no issue that Batman died... I take issue with the fact he was not given a proper boss fight, he and his games are ridiculed throughout the game, he's treated like a joke, then he's sat down on a parkbench, and talked down to by a child killer like she has the moral high ground, and shot like a deer in head lights... yeah... people are justifiably mad.
I feel like this was supposed to be a title that consisided with the release of thr Suicide Squad movies but once it got delayed passed them i wonder they decides then to tie it into the arkham games im hopes it would translate into more sales.
Now I think Superman isn’t dead. I got a feeling he’s alive. Also my son, I like the way your take about Batman and how is death was handle in SS game. It’s a bold take and probably one of the first people to say how you like Arkham Batman death. I like that
The problem with the justice league dies isn't that they die, is that they die terribly. Them just getting shot then falling on the ground is simply lazy. They should've showed us them dying in creative ways that reflects the tone of the game.
I can't feel sorry for the studio when this is the type of game they wanted to make. Even if they somehow survive and go back to making single-player games fans should ask themselves how long before they unceremoniously kill said character. Nothing will be lost and the people who worked on this mess will go to another studio.
I don’t know what’s going on with the DC games lately. First Gotham Knights and now Suicide Squad. I just want a good DC game. 😔 This game reminds me of crackdown.
It’s because live service is really hard to do right, especially when a studio has no experience with them. Depending on who you ask, live service has never been done well
I love your vids. Been gaming forever, but at 42 I just didn't understand game content that wasn't me playing something. For games I have played your depth of knowledge is great for things I may have missed myself but more importantly games I would never play are broken down and I get to enjoy great stories without playing a typ of game I don't enjoy. Thx man!
I think this narrative needed one of the heroes to survive and be 'cured'. Superman is the obvious choice, but Green Lantern would be cool, maybe Flash to see more of his and Boomerang's dynamic. The Squad quickly wiping out the League feels unsatisfying, after all the Justice League are meant to be the pinnacle of humanity (Earth residents I suppose?), while Task Force X are the opposite. I don't have a problem with the characters dying, nor these characters being the killers necessarily, it just undermines the threat. Earth 2 Luthor coming up with a cure, that against their own wishes the Squad use to cure their nemesis', feels like an obvious part of them becoming heroes and overcoming the flaws that led them to villainy. Then the hero can help fight Braniac, again making it feel less anticlimactic that these four gun-toting mercenaries can take out the greatest inter-dimensional threat ever seen. It would also set up a neater post-launch game, travel between universes killing Braniacs and building a new Justice League, one where these four criminals may be welcomed
@@YourFavoriteSon1 yeah it does seem like that, but without any set up in the main game I'm not sure why people will care? They're already dead and were taken out pretty easily, as you say it's too little too late. Having the Squad pushed to desperation, where they put their own self-interest and hate for these heroes aside to save one feels like a vital turning part in their arc. Adding it now would be awkward
I have been waiting for your review on this game son and im not shocked you dont approve. I agree on how some can see this game can be good but as a looter shooter player myself it doenst hit. The constant pop ups and numbers in my face is disgusting it feels like a slot machine with added steps.
I think the biggest problem people have with this game is the betrayal they feel. Rockstar made epic single player games for mature players that enjoy story, slow burns, calculated risks, and the perfection of combat. This game was made for the bright colors and loud sound chasing, dopamine addicted Fortnite children who can't play a game alone. They threw away their base to appease to the masses. That is very nearly unforgivable.
Hahaha maybe I’m getting old (I’m 36) but damn there was so much going on in this game it was rough. I find myself playing the soulsborne types or indie games nowadays. Lol guess I’m a boomer 😂
Same, it’s exhausting to watch gameplay. I can’t imagine actually playing it. There’s just so much obstructing crap on screen all the time. I’ve been mostly playing fromsoftware and ps2 games lately. The actual simplicity of those games is great. Stuff like this makes me appreciate having a small bar on screen and a little fart cloud around my character to know I’m poisoned instead of a full screen green overlay. lol
I started a new job when the trailer for this game first came out. I asked a random coworker if they saw the trailer and how it was hype as hell. The coworker and I were super excited for the game and would quickly become best friends. Neither of us have interest in the game anymore.
The Arkham games were so well written because Paul Dano was the head writer. He helped to write the DC animated universe, which I think are some of the best superhero content out there.
I haven’t played the game yet but if I’m rocksteady I would just add the other major league members. You could do green arrow, hawk girl, cyborg, Martin manhunter. Then you could do another season with maybe all the bat family (would be best with the joker season) like if they merge all the universes and Brainiac has the entire bat family under his control fighting them could be dope. Like Tim drake Robin could have all these different gadgets and traps, Jason could just be this over aggressive brute (who takes the venom bane uses) batgirl would probably just be reskinned Batman but could be cool.
I'm slightly concerned on the fact that if there is a massive influx of live service games, we might see a large portion of them be dead on arrival. Why would I as a player who has invested time and money into game A for X amount of hours then start all over in games B, C, D etc.? Is over saturation possible in the AAA league? This trend might not be one worth investing in.
Personally, Harley Quinn and especially boomerang have the best traversal for me, king shark is just a classic grunt that jumps high albeit well done, still too simple for my liking, and deadshot has a worse feeling anthem traversal mode.
The entire story is just setting the stage for the live service. It fails because they fundamentally separated the story from the live service by trying to do both a cinematic story and a live service game.
I’m guessing they chose mainly non-super-powered characters because it’s a shooter, but that doesn’t really make any sense for the narrative, and doesn’t let the gameplay be as unique.
To be disappointed one must have expectations, a 4 player light rpg, light open world, light story, light mechanics; there just isn't any appeal anywhere
I'm gonna be honest here your gameplay section sounds incredibly conflicting in terms of what your trying to convince people. Like for the first 5-7 minutes you were actually kinda selling me on the gameplay. Even when you were making comments about how overwhelming the amount of new mechanics get introuced. It was a refreshing insight in a slew of game reviews oversimplifying the combat to "melee then shoot airborne enemy" For the sake of making the game look bad in spite of some enjoyment they had. then you start going into comments trying to tell people "game is flashy, thats bad." "its slop done sloppy" Like I fully understand warning people that a marketing system can be derrivative. But the way you put it kinda just sounds like needless highhorsing. I honestly think this part shouldve been told at the begining of the video. To warn people that the game is trying to appease a certain demographic. And that you think its harmful to the game industry. So by the midway point, it feels like you were doing a good job of pointing out positives and reasons you enjoyed playing. But had to backstep to convince people you agree with all the hate. I don't know, kinda didnt sit right with me. I still enjoyed the video regardless
The problem with Batman's death (and yeah, this is an alternate universe or something) is just that the dialogue sucked. If either he or Harley had a decent speech, I'd be okay with it
The game isnt that bad. I have put myself thru 20 plus hours getting harley to level30 before any boss fight. The movement is fun if you can successfully nail it. I like the game. Though most people dont like what I'm about to say but im glad rocksteady branched out and did this.
I truly believe live service games won’t be much of a thing in a few years. For every one that works and is successful, there seems to be a dozen that just completely flop. And too many studios are trying to force it rather then let it happen naturally. Destiny worked (whether you like it or not) because it wasn’t being pushed as a live service game at every second possible. They slowly built up to that when they knew they had a player base that would stay and a formula for keeping them around.
How do you feel about Suicide Squad?
Should've been based in another universe, then I think this game wouldn't have been reviewed as badly as it is right now?
I enjoy it and it’s a good average game. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that
Utter disgrace of a game
Got it played it for 5 hours and sold it on Vinted the same day
Suits for ''moden audiences''. That is, if there is an audience like that at all.
I think that game would've sold far better too haha
This isn't Kevin's last gig as batman.
He's set to appear in an upcoming animated film.
playing this game just seems like it would be sensory exhausting. all those explosions and moving around. my thumbs hurt just from watching the traversal too. thank you for putting in the hours so I didn't have to.
It is a constant assault on the senses.
Honestly, I still think it looks like a lot of fun.
However, that's because I like playing games like Saints Row 4, Warframe, and nodded Just Cause which are high speed spectacles.
I might pick the game up, but at a lower price point
I'm a huge fan of saints row. and I agree it does kinda have some of that in its soul it seems@@Fernando-ek8jp
This is how this "genre" works, basically like slot machines
@@Fernando-ek8jpI bought the deluxe edition and i really enjoy the gameplay I just feel it needs a few tweaks and game modes to really reach being on a level of fun like Warframe

You’re still factually wrong though.
Let's not pretend there's any hard canon there
I find it hilarious that Harley Quinn is given the moral high ground when she’s lecturing Batman like she isn’t responsible for the deaths of thousands including children.
@jaym1204It's fun to watch people insult this game.
@jaym1204Why are you being a shill?
Why does it matter to you though??@jaym1204
I remember my coworker talking to me about this, and I just stared at him with a blank face when he said “They gave Captain Boomerang guns”
i dont know why, but my mind just think that rick & morty meme:
"they give captain boomerang a gun, funniest shit i ever seen"
They can't even die a hero now, but at least they can stop before the sickness grows any more.@@YourFavoriteSon1
@@YourFavoriteSon1 The people who worked on the games we like will most likely contniue working in the industry. I dont mind Rocksteady going down if the alternative is this
Making a live service game in 2024 is like making a br in 2020
Hopefully it's a trend and they die out, but that won't happen if they keep making money.
it wont die my man. d4 is still going unfortunately.... ppl ARE DUMBER these days . games are made for consumers these days@@YourFavoriteSon1
I don't know ow why they bother, warframe exists and it's still getting updates. And it's probably gonna have most of the coop movement shooter player base for at least another 5 years
@@everinghall8622That reminds me, I really need a new hard drive so I can redownload Warframe.
what’s a br?
This is where the industry is trending unfortunately. We'll probably have to suffer a lot more of these for a while.
He'll even helldivers 1 is better than this, and from what I've seen the sequel blows it out of the water
@@Doc-Glock
Yeah but like,
It fits many of the same things you critizied here,
So I feel a diffetent example may have worked better.
im honestly baised as i generally hate the idea of suicide squad and the modern version of harly quinn... I'm not the biggest super hero fan in general but do prefer DC. that being said when I saw this was going to be a looter shooter and saw the early gameplay last year I knew it was going to be bad.. this developer makes great games it is very disappointing.
Yeah, it's a massive shame to see things turn out this way.
It's literally not the same studio,
Every single prior dev left before, and it's been like 8 years since the comapny's last last game.
I honestly can’t understand why this isn’t a f2p game … a lot of the hate would be forgivable if it weren’t a full priced AAA game trying to justify the new 70$ price tag
I agree, I could stomach this a lot more if people weren't being asked to pay 70$ upfront for a promise of more content later.
We can't really be sure. Maybe their intention was to try and spice up the genre, but that definitely wasn't what the end product reflects.
old rocksteady didnt make this game. rumors say their version was scrapped and finaly product is what we see. a game based on check list, white board and shareholders ideas
>You get to fight Batman again but he's blue
It's incredible how on-point South Park was describing multiverses as an infinite pants and shirts combinations
The look of all the menus reminds me of those bad mobile games designed to trick you. There are so many currencies, so many different colours everywhere that it has very little cohesion anywhere to be found.
Even if it was free to play, it would be mid.
It reminds me of playing VR for the first time, a bit of sensory overload.
@@YourFavoriteSon1
A core reason they fail so often now,
Is every single other game is attempting to cannabalise each other.
Probably
See now I just want a cool Green Lantern game.
I'm pretty sure Kevin Conroy will be one of the Batmen in the new Crisis movie, so thankfully this shouldn't be his last role.
I'm holding out hope that Green Lantern Chads will get our day in the light
Also a good superman game would be great. Make sure to include flying through rings
This is rocksteady post the founders leaving. I like to split the two
I watched all the cutscenes in a video on youtube.
Of course, the most disappointing part is that this is where the studio ended up.
EXACTLY!! Like imagine showing this to your grandparents and trying to explain it.
So it’s shitty avengers…..which is sad cause avengers is already kinda shitty.
Shitty²?
Honestly I’d 1000% play that game again before I even touch this game.
@@Swerv0. I agree. Being iron man wasn’t too bad from what I remember.
i just cant with all those numbers... even having to use a "k" like dammnn
There are points where you can't even see enemies or the environment because there's so much going on lol
Yeah, you *were* foolish to even consider the possibility that this game would be good. Come on.
I am the fool
I think boomerangs traversal is good but unlike the other characters you have to stay on the ground so that he can run fast. His running is very fun, but I agree that if you are up in the air and only rely on the teleport it’s pretty boring.
I believe it's confirmed that Kevin Conroy is still Batman i the upcoming animated film Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3. Tbf you probably recorded your video prior to that statement getting revealed but I just wanted to point out that he still has a role just in case you were unaware.
Really that's exciting af
Lets hope it ends up a proper sendoff.
This game would be so unfortunate writing/context wise to be his final role.
It's not that they killed Batman that makes it disrespectful
IT'S *HOW* they killed Batman that makes it disrespectful
I swear it's like the freakin last of us 2 discourse all over again
I will agree, the character bios were especially egregious lmao
Doesn't wonder woman have an artifact that can deal with brainwashing anyway? I stg I've seen it in a comic or something.
Only reason this is permanent is because Conroy died, and they couldn’t have foreseen that
A boomerang isnt an australian toy 😂 its an actual hunting weapon that was used by Indigenous Australians haha
It wants to be a f2p mobile game so badly, Every second of the video is seizure inducing with all the flashy pop up crap on screen. It's horrific.
By 01:36 you had completely contradicted everything you had said previously.
Its okay, Son. Don't push yourself too hard to play this torture.
Lets play Lego DC Super Villain, you can pick King Shark and he can actually swim.
Fantastic review. Thanks for sharing!
Now I think Superman isn’t dead. I got a feeling he’s alive. Also my son, I like the way your take about Batman and how is death was handle in SS game. It’s a bold take and probably one of the first people to say how you like Arkham Batman death. I like that
Seriously what is The thinking at Warner Bros. to make all of their games live service?
The problem with the justice league dies isn't that they die, is that they die terribly. Them just getting shot then falling on the ground is simply lazy. They should've showed us them dying in creative ways that reflects the tone of the game.
I agree with that, I think their battles and characters overall should've had a little more flair that was specific to them.
Thx man!
Really happy that you enjoy the videos man!
I think that's where the story is headed in the post launch updates, but it's probably too little too late.
Adding it now would be awkward
the amount of information being displayed on screen seemingly at all times is so overwhelming.
This wasn't Kevin's last gig as batman, he is due to return in an animated film, as a cameo I believe.
I have been waiting for your review on this game son and im not shocked you dont approve. I agree on how some can see this game can be good but as a looter shooter player myself it doenst hit. The constant pop ups and numbers in my face is disgusting it feels like a slot machine with added steps.
I can't imagine many fans of looter shooters would even enjoy this.
This game is made by child minded people for the child minded people.
27:20 Then if you're mad about Green Lantern’s death then should you look at the bigger picture? 👀
Those damage numbers give me cancer, and I like damage numbers
The UI & Pop-ups can be insanely overwhelming
Same, it’s exhausting to watch gameplay. I can’t imagine actually playing it. There’s just so much obstructing crap on screen all the time. I’ve been mostly playing fromsoftware and ps2 games lately. The actual simplicity of those games is great. Stuff like this makes me appreciate having a small bar on screen and a little fart cloud around my character to know I’m poisoned instead of a full screen green overlay. lol
@@HekateMGO 😂 too true
commenting for engagement. nice to see you son.
Son, I'm so proud you remember listening to Mom's Sheryl Crow records when we were driving that time to see the Four Corners Monument.
People were saying the way they were killed was disrespectful, not that they were killed.
This trend might not be one worth investing in.
it's not surprising that AK has more players on steam than this
Batman didn’t kill Joker, hell he was trying to save him but Joker dropped the antidote and succumbed to a disease he injected into hisself
I had no expectations and yet I'm disappointed
I find it hilarious that anyone would think a trash DC franchise, would be good😂
Hogwarts Legacy ruled doe, both prestige- and creative merit-wise
I honestly didn't play it, it wasn't that interesting to me at launch. I'm not really a fan of Harry Potter in general.
Disappointing would imply I had expectations for this game.
Play this on double speed to add to the frantic, madness on screen XD
Personally, Harley Quinn and especially boomerang have the best traversal for me, king shark is just a classic grunt that jumps high albeit well done, still too simple for my liking, and deadshot has a worse feeling anthem traversal mode.
The entire story is just setting the stage for the live service. It fails because they fundamentally separated the story from the live service by trying to do both a cinematic story and a live service game.
Batman didn't kill the Joker
I’m guessing they chose mainly non-super-powered characters because it’s a shooter, but that doesn’t really make any sense for the narrative, and doesn’t let the gameplay be as unique.
3:00 I always hope Boomerang levels up + acquires Didgeridoo Fu skills.
I LOVE looter shooters and this game is DOGSHIT. I'd rather play Anthem everytime
Watching this game's gameplay makes me sick.
With how short this game was i could not believe this was the studio that made the Arkham games, given 10 years to work on a single game.
To be disappointed one must have expectations, a 4 player light rpg, light open world, light story, light mechanics; there just isn't any appeal anywhere
I'm gonna be honest here
your gameplay section sounds incredibly conflicting in terms of what your trying to convince people. Like for the first 5-7 minutes you were actually kinda selling me on the gameplay. Even when you were making comments about how overwhelming the amount of new mechanics get introuced. It was a refreshing insight in a slew of game reviews oversimplifying the combat to "melee then shoot airborne enemy" For the sake of making the game look bad in spite of some enjoyment they had.
then you start going into comments trying to tell people "game is flashy, thats bad." "its slop done sloppy"
Like I fully understand warning people that a marketing system can be derrivative.
You think they seriously wanted to do this? You're delusional. This is NOT branching out; This is chasing trends for greed.
Yea didn’t enjoy the game…but you know what I did enjoy…Like a dragon infinite wealth I can’t wait for that video👉🏾👈🏾 teehee
