Played the first one when I was a sophomore in high school. I remember the first section on the big screen downstairs with some of my friends there too; we were all scared to death. The mystique of the ending with the farm and all that was amazing to me. Loved it! Needless to say I loved the sequel as well and am bummed this franchise died out!

I remember playing this game back when I was a kid, around 2009. Back then, I used to live in a very dangerous neighborhood, and walking around that place when it got dark and I was coming back from school I felt a special kind of fear that was beautifully projected by this game. It felt as if it got the inspiration from that place. Not only it was terrifying playing it due to its great atmosphere, but also it reminded me a lot about the cruel reality surrounding me back then. I loved the game, but it gave me nightmares. Great video, Son. You're making Dad remembering his fears.
Man the graphics when this came out were amazing. It was hard to believe it was an at home experience. I'll never forget the tension I felt when having to put away my weapon and pull out the camera. It was like knowing someone was going to jump out and get you, but you HAD to do it. Brilliant game.
Games don't wow me that much anymore. When games like this and Gears came out, I was extremely impressed. Games look a lot better now, but nothing makes me feel like I did years ago. Feelsbadman

I never realized it until my second playthrough but the cover art of the game is actually the first victim you find from the Matchmaker in the intro. Chilling.
Ahhhh, the early 2000s was such a golden age for gaming. Still naive to things like Battle Passes, microtransactions, and games releasing in an unfinished state. Now trust me, I know that it's not all doom and gloom right now, with games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Elden Ring releasing.
The sound and atmosphere in this game is so damn good. I'd love to see a modern entry in the series. One that goes after the more subdued stuff and less of the scifi.
Just a remake. Not a “modern remake”. Otherwise it’d be another ruined franchise like saints row. Just improve the graphics, slap the sequel onto it, charge $40-60 and we’ll be good to go.

When you think about the fact that this game was released in 2006, it is way ahead of its time in terms of graphics and gameplay mechanics. This is such an amazing yet underrated title, and I'm happy my request of you covering this finally came through. Amazing job as always. The sequel weren't as great, but I would've loved to see a PC port of it though.

The stuttering most likely was due to the DPI on your mouse. There is an amazing fix for it made by the community, and this is the same fix that most people require to use to get FEAR 1 running on their PC. Both amazing games, and I 100% want to tell everyone to try them both out if you get the chance to play them! Just make sure to get the community fix, drop it in the install folder and everything should be gucci

You could try forcing off V-sync in your video card settings and seeing if that helps. I always had uniform micro-stutter in games (particularly Source engine) until I tried that. Great video son. This is such an overlooked horror gem.
great breakdown of one of my fav games growing up. I got my 360 for launch date xmas as a 16 yr old. Although Madden 06 was the game i played all day, this one i remember loving vividly. awesome stuff.

Just finished the game yesterday, I was very pleasantly surprised by it, I knew it was good, but didn’t think it would be great even though it’s dated, the chapter with the mannequin was a masterpiece of creepy and suspenseful level design. I’m very happy that it was backwards compatible with my series X
This was the first game I played on the 360 and the only reason I had it because it was bundled with the Xbox, I was more wanting to play Oblivion but I didn’t have the money for it. So I played this game and I absolutely loved it, didn’t even think about Oblivion afterwards as this game had me hooked.
I had issues with the pc version as well, you def aren't alone in that aspect. That said, I made it work and loved this game (especially the first 3/4thish of it, the finale was a bit more on the frustrating side of things)

I still don't get the son/dad reference the channel is built upon, nevertheless this is another great retrospective. I'm curious about the next one, since the second part is the only one I've played. I don't know if this will be different there for you as well but I on the other hand loved the first person parrying in this game and used it a lot, but parrying may be my favorite game mechanic overall, so this may be on me.
Monolith games in the 2000's were S tier. No One Lives Forever, TRON 2.0, FEAR, Condemned. No one did better than them during that time. WB forced them to turn to third person combat games, and they still made the best LOTR games in the modern age. I just wish they'd go back to the FPS genre.

can confirm the pc version ran great for me, choosing a resolution worked a bit weird but it wasnt a big deal. Also you need to add a certain dll file or something to make the framerate work properly. FEAR needs that same file
this was one of those games i always saw on the shelf in Gamestop as a kid and always wondered if it did well i was never interested in it as i didn't like horror games until Dead Space came along
