    People hate this but I loved having it as my first car. It's dirt cheap, quick enough to not feel slow, agile thanks to the AWD and torque vectoring, and is reliable (I did 40,000 miles in 9 months, only issue I had was a puncture), and it's just fun to drive.

    I've no idea if this chap is a professional car reviewer, but I have to say this is one of the best car reviews I've ever seen from America (I'm in the UK). Maybe a little too much mechanical info in the first couple of minutes, given that the vast majority of Juke buyers will have their car serviced by a dealership or garage anyway.
    I have a Juke 1.6 Nismo and as he says, it's really good fun to throw around corners on weekend trips into the country. Surprisingly little body roll in corners for what is a fairly tall vehicle. It sort of "sling-shots" you round bends on twisty roads.
    I can get from 0 to 60 in just over 7 seconds and in over 2,000 miles so far, it's averaged 42mpg. Not bad considering that's involved a lot of stop/start motoring to the shops etc.
    A very good review and well put together. Cheers.

    Test drove one today which is black and has a spoiler on the top with orange trim. I love the look. The styling is ahead of its time to many. If you go back 30 or 40 years many would say many cars today are ugly. Its fun to drive and does have some nice pick up when put your foot on the gas. But its fuel efficient, simple with not too many electronics inside that can go bad and be expensive to repair.

      Bryan Pranata If you drove one you'd understand. The CVT makes the engine hold constant RPM, and the little 4cyl sounds like it is straining all of the time as a result. The interior is all hard plastic, and not very comfortable. Plus they are just weird and ugly looking. When he says "it is fun to drive" I am not sure what his definition of "fun" is. The only thing "fun" about the rental car I had was that I got to give it back after a few days.

Yet, everybody wants one . Just like the Juke. The Juke has sold over 500.000 ! Does it look like a frog ? Yes! Does it look like a Buggy ? Yes! Does it look like a toycar ? Yes!...... @@Mr.Gundam7 I already have one, my friend. The 1.2 Acenta Premium to be exact. Performance is pretty good for what it is, although it's nowhere near the level of the Skoda 1.4 TSI I had before. I will say one thing though: on the motorway, it's an absolute star; with cruise control on and the engine spinning at a leisurely 2,400 rpm at 70 mph, it's a quiet and relaxing drive. As I said, it's no sports car, but it has plenty of redeeming qualities. Just wish the fuel consumption were better.

    I like this car, I enjoy the looks, especially the profile and rear end - granted the front is funky. I think that most folks don't like the looks because it ventures outside the norm. As far as driving it - it is quick and fun to drive - it has the height of an SUV but drives like a car. It is very basic and plastic on the inside, but it's fine. What concerns me is the lack of space in the rear seat but I think I can deal with that. I am contemplating purchasing one. I have found an amazing deal on one and would be paying "used car price" for a new car, perhaps it's because of the lack of demand. My question and concern is about the type of fuel it uses. Someone who owns one, (and loves it), told me he uses regular gas and it is fine. Some have said that they use mid-grade and it's fine, while others say that you MUST use premium. Some have said that the engine adjusts to the fuel type used but that doesn't sound correct to me. With gas prices rising, it could be a determining factor if I buy this car. Please respond with advice.

  • @SS8styles
    @SS8styles 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Lol everyone online says they're so ugly, yet they sell 35-40k of them a year in the US. For being somewhat impractical and cramped inside you might think it's fairly niche, especially with that exterior, yet they sell about 10, 000 more than combined sales of the FRS\BRZ. I wonder if that mpg, refinement, insurance cost, and the concept of a mini-SUV make the difference in a consumer's mind. Cause if you have to fold the backseats down to get any real cargo space, how much more practical is it really than a FRZ. Perhaps even minor advantages in practically (mostly cost related, like mpg) greatly trump any aesthetic ones...

    • @martinbernath
      @martinbernath 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would rather have Jimny or Samurai for much lower price

    • @SS8styles
      @SS8styles 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      YIC granted it isn't the most obvious comparison and some thinking out of the box is necessary. I made the comparison mostly because of the aesthetic factor. One is generally regarded as hideous, the other as just about as good looking as you can get for the price. I'm wondering why the ugly car wins in the sales #'s when it doesn't have any real solid advantages. Why are we in an era where lifting the car 5-10 inches has to be part of the winning formula?

    I disagree about the rear space.I took my wife, grown daughter, and 6 year old granddaughter from Nashville to Disneyworld, and they said it was surprisingly comfortable. Is it Licoln Town Car spacious, and comfortable, no. I know, because I own a 03 Town car, but driving the whole distance, I was comfortable as well. We also was able to load six stuffed animals, and our luggage. Then was it a little cramped, yes, but we still had fun it it. As for fun. It is one of the most fun cars I've ever driven. It is quicker than you think. Turn the A.C. off, put it in manual. Put one foot on the brake, and one on the gas. Get the r.p.m.'s up a little, and at a light you can tree just about anyone. Love our , I mean my wife's Juke.

    I loved my Juke. I had a 2011, and I'm very surprised you were able to get such good fuel economy. Unfortunately, the CVT went out last year, so I replaced it with a 2016 WRX. It is in every way better than my Juke. It even gets better fuel economy than my 2011 Juke, which was an unexpected, but very much welcomed surprise. I wonder if something change in 2015 in order to make the fuel economy better.

    I appreciate your reviews as they are far more technical than any other automotive reviews I have seen. One question though. Why does the CVT "shift" gears? Wouldn't it be best to leave the engine RPM steady at peak torque for acceleration and peak efficiency for fuel economy? For example leave the engine at 4500 RPM (estimate for peak torque) if you floor it at speed and just slide the CVT ratio down. Or on the open road why not just leave the engine at 1700 RPM (estimate for peak efficiency) and adjust the manifold pressure / power via turbo?

    Great review! The main disappointing thing for me is the lack of storage space. They tried to make the back end look more hip, but ends up making the trunk space less practical for daily use. I'd rather go with a hatchback Fit or something.

      @EngineeringExplained  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** I agree! It's a fun ride but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of space for the rear passengers and how small the trunk is. And great fuel economy too. Pros and cons with everything!

    It's too bad you were not able to review a nismo RS model with 6psd. After having owned both, the RS is much more fun to own. Yet have not driven it in snow yet. The AWD regular juke handles great in snow.

    One problem is the rubberband transmission, I personally can't stand it and exempt from that they (Nissan) have a ton of problems with the CVT an ordinary 6 speed automatic and I would consider buying one.

Thanks! love the videos!

    Looking back on the juke, i dont think its as ugly as i remember. people cant tell me specific details on why it looks bad. i think maybe the headlight positions throw people off. which i like the 370z headlights, not so fond of the mid level ones.

    If it's rated for 32 Mpg on the highway, how could you possibly get 44.9 mpg on those hills? That computer seems really suspect.

    • @EngineeringExplained
      @EngineeringExplained  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Walter Black Yes, I suspect it's reading high, but probably within 10%. Definitely possible to get 40 mpg with it.

    • @sydneypaillet4055

      my old 2011 altima was rated at 32mpg hwy and I could get 30-45mpg depending on how fast I drove. I routinely averaged 35 mpg on avg.

    • @theodoreahn9661
      @theodoreahn9661 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      my 2012 sv juke with few modification gets 35-36 mpg all the time (high way 70 : local 30) If i try to get more that is possible too. My highest mpg number with the juke was 40 as well. It all depends on how you drive. My G37 gets 32 highway mpg and ppl don't believe it.

    Hello, I was just reading is it true the 2015 Nissan Juke SV 6 M/T trim model takes only premium gas? Is that true, I would understand for the Nismo but not the base SV model. Any response from anyone who owns one would be great, thanks.

      wrong. this car is premium gas recommended. Not required or must. I do use 93 octane on my little turbo but that's your choice.
