I covered a demo of Jusant a little while ago, but it's just been released and I really loved it. A couple of notes on the video:
It may not be obvious in the gameplay, but you climb by using the the left & right controller triggers to grab and release each hand individually (and you use the analog stick to direct your arms).
Also, there are some optional notes that you can pick up and read along the way. I didn't want to dwell on the notes for too much tough as they're often quite long and generally just contain little bits of worldbuilding (the environmental and cutscene storytelling is much more important). So if you'd like to read any notes, please pause the video at the relevant moments.
Hope you enjoy the climb! :)

@@carl8703It does. I'm surprised many didn't try this too. Except for Shadow of the Colossus, that came out way back when on limited hardware. And the remake likely wouldn't add it due to remaining faithful to the original.

I love the little details in the animation of your character's movements. Like when he adjusts his feet in different positions when standing still in the middle of a climb, or how, when he sees which ledge he is going to climb, he shakes his hand relaxing it before stretching his arm.
The art and style is beautiful, the melancholic air and the immersion caused by the ambient sounds is exceptional. Another game to add in the category of pure visual poetry.

It's like a semi-realistic Sands of Time. The most obvious game-play feature is that you can't rewind, but at least he has his climbing accouterment. The art style, though, reminded me of Sky: Children of the Light.
Oh, and, since the main subject of the game is ascension through climbing, I hope some-one played the Snake Eater Theme on those key moments.

I would have liked them to add small moments where your character must take a breath, rest to recover, or chew some energetic food. Even to bandage a wound on his hands or heal himself.
Also small animations where at certain moments you have to use powder as a resin taken from some walls, or dry your hands to have a better grip.
But the game is very good, and these details come to mind after seeing the gameplay.

played on GP, cause it's not normally my kind of game, but surprised at how addictive this is. the traversing controls remind me of the old Spider-man games before Insomniac dumbed them down. the music interludes are uplifting and environmental sounds are spot on. not being able to just walk off an edge without a rope attached made it very relaxing for a climbing game. animations work great too. really beautiful game all round.

Shadow of the Colossus appears to be a huge inspiration as well. Obviously they both share a climbing mechanic, but this game has gone well past it in terms of mechanical fidelity. Both also share similar pacing, atmosphere, and environmental storytelling.
Another possible inspiration is GIRP, which was a old flash game. Another climbing game featuring highly experimental controls that simulated the feel of climbing. It also had similar pacing. However it was of much smaller scope.

Hate to ruin the mood but I can’t help but wonder how good an ending this really is. Spoilers but:
Protag boy is seemingly stuck in a basin at the top of a stupidly tall piller-mountain that’s super cold and rapidly filling with water; and speaking of, whoever of the human(?) population from the pillar that’s still alive and settled on the seabed are gonna find their new home flooded with, if I understand the implications correctly, an ocean’s worth of rain. I mean this is seemingly great for the ecosystem as a whole but every human looks like they’re getting a pretty raw deal here.

i was really hoping this wouldn't be just "uncharted: climbing sections - the game" but there is only one path to take.. this really should have had branching paths to guarantee multiple playthroughs and some kind of skill development, like things you only learn at the end of your first playthrough that you can use to take another path on your second. also at the end it's so cold there's snow but it still rains for some reason

    • @AlphaBetaGamer

Hi! It may not be obvious in the video, but there are often multiple paths to climb and there are plenty of secret areas to discover. I think it would have pretty good replay value.
