Volkswagen T-Cross - Small SUV With Huge Potential (ENG) - First Test Drive and Review

  • Volkswagen T-Cross is an SUV or a crossover based on the Polo. Fun and Cross were slightly raised Polos with plastic panels around the fenders, bumpers and doors, but the T-Cross looks different enough from the Polo for some people not to make the association. On the one hand Volkswagen T-Cross looks like T-Roc with a straight back instead of a slanted one. On the other hand the boxy shape made me think of the Suzuki Ignis, from which the T-Cross is much bigger. In real life T-Cross is about the size of Peugeot 2008. Since it’s based on the Polo, Volkswagen T-Cross is smaller than the Golf-based T-Roc. T-Cross is 54 mm longer than Polo, and 138 mm taller. Wheelbase remains the same. The T-Cross is about a cm wide, than the Polo.
    Starting price: 18 000 euro

The Polo and T-cross have the central displays high enough so you don't have to take your eyes off the road, but without ruining the dash design. In the recent models, BMW is also bringing the dash line higher and lowering their "tablets" so that they look more integrated and not as an afterthought.

I am, or, rather, was in the market for a small SUV, but this, just IMHO, is neither small nor, more importantly, an SUV. Or, and this is likely, I hopelessly misunderstand the term "SUV".
BTW, I'm going for Ignis. It's no Jeep (or Jimny) either, but at least it's got (on demand / part-time) AWD, which is more important than added ground clearance and is a must for an "SUV" IMHO. Plus, it's 41 cm shorter than T-Cross.
Edit. Just to be clear: I would not consider a VW purchase even if they did offer a small AWD SUV.

@@Fran_Tluanga Well, this is all subjective. To me all WVs are generic, faceless, unimaginative buckets on wheels. They are everybloodywhere you turn round here :). But many people love them and that's absolutely fine.
BTW, if I wanted real premium quality, I would buy a second hand premium car. My budget is far from sufficient for a premium new car (and I'm tired of old ones). Plus, VW is not premium brand. Personal opinion.
