    Volkswagen have a crossover or SUV for just about any budget now that the T-Cross is here. You can pick up a new one for just over €20,000 here in Ireland.
    Don't let the fact that it's based on the Polo platform put you off - this is a city SUV that can pack a punch with some clever tricks to make the boot bigger!

    The colour and wheels are beautiful, real head turner. I'm not a huge fan of crossovers but I think VW did a great job here. Interior is lovely, everything makes sense. Only downside is it's a bit on the pricier side, especially when you have to add dual climate, heated seats then when you take the financing into consideration, the Golf starts to be more attractive money wise...

    Really interested in buying this car!
    Do you know whether with me, my wife and three high school youngsters and the boot full of luggage the 1.0 115 TSI with manual 6 speed gearbox would be adequate for motorways?
    Also engine weatherstrip where windshield wipers are, looks too narrow at the sides, are there adequate sink holes there to avoid water ingress in the engine bay?

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hiss Pwn the Vitara I had was AWD so found it very quick and well able to stick. Build quality will be a bit better in the VW but they have cut corners themselves to make it a cheaper car (cheaper by VW standards anyway).
      They were both quirky cars but with the booster jet engine and so much grip from a driving point of view the Suzuki was better fun.

      Though it doesn't have neither the DSG nor a manual transmission, but a 6-speed automatic tiptronic transmission, which's slower and it restrains the performance and fuel consumption a little bit.

      DSG is one of the slickest gearboxes there is, can’t say I’ve experienced that.

      I test drove a 1.5L Evo DSG last week and experienced this - slow acceleration and revving at too-high a gear when taking-off from standstill (the problem was less so in "S" mode but obviously not ideal that then you would always need to pop it back to "D" when up to speed. Will try a 1.0L 115bhp next to see if the issue I experienced is just confined to the 1.5L model.

    Bad review cause you are not reviewing the €22.5 k version. The version you reviewed is probably 7k dearer ie 28k. Look at the Suzuki vitara. More reliable and less decption. Still loads of plastic but Suzuki don't lie like vw. Oh yeah.... Engine stop/start is a real pain and can't be disengaged.

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stop start can be disengaged. So the review is bad because it’s not a bog standard car? Fair enough! I’ve reviewed the Vitara but the interior isn’t any better, at all.

    • @DesHoulihan
      @DesHoulihan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NobbyOnCars stop start can be switched off each time you start the car but not permanently. For the same price point the Suzuki has far greater content. No contest. Bought the VW and not happy with it so much plastic from a luxury car maker. Typical German smoke screen.

  • @TheRustedPixel

    Brushed over that plastic interior a bit too quickly for my liking. VW taking the piss with hard plastics in both R-Line T-Cross and T-Roc. Spending that much money for a plastic interior? On their top level trim is a joke. Im sure they are saving soft touch plastics for the Mk2 of each model. I'll gladly stick with Golf. Just a real shame the Mk8 isn't a big leap. It's like the Mk7.5.2 it's so minimal in changes on the exterior.

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think scratching the harshest parts of the plastic is a fairly obvious way of pointing out the flaws, maybe not for you! It is a €22,500 car though and that’s by Irish standards, it’s going to be even cheaper in Europe so perhaps the plastics make a bit more sense then. Irish VRT gives an inflated value to what the manufacturer sees the price at don’t forget.
      The Golf will always be the best all rounder.

  • @joe80ss
    @joe80ss 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One major issue that everyone seems to miss including VW conveniently, is that the T cross only has 40 litre fuel tank capacity. That's a smaller tank than some smaller cars. Meaning filling up more often and less range of miles. It's a major flaw and vw doesn't even mention it on its brochure.
