Car prices are just crazy now. In the UK, that city car is almost at the luxury car tax threshold. But manufacturers know the private market doesn't have that kind of money and most will use finance to 'own' the car, which hides the true eye watering amounts people are actually spending.
2 months ago I ordered a new T-Cross 1.5 tsi dsg, life plus equipment package. Tinted windows, reversing camera, keyless start, metallic paint, 17-inch alloy wheels, etc., that's all in the equipment package, and another 3,000 euros of additional equipment on top of that. The final price is 26,000 euros. In Croatia, VW lowered the price of the T-cross after the facelift. As far as I can see in the reviews, the prices of this car in Europe are brutal. For the price of this test T-Cross, you can buy a new Tiguan in Croatia. Its price starts from 35,000 euros.
Same here! Mine was just under 24k, with 750€ of extras. We're not joking. The 1.5 TSI DSG Life Plus starts here just under 23k. Go to the croatian configurator if you don't believe us.
In Slovenia, prices start at 25k, and for that price you can get EVs. The point of these cars is to be small, cheap and just shitboxes, but they are not cheap, tho they are awfully made. Sad
Yeah, basic 70kW Life model starting for 19.999€, including 6 years / 150.0000 km full warranty. C3 Aircross, MG ZS and Dacia Sandero Stepway are the only similar cars cheaper than T Cross in Croatia. Hyundai Bayon and Kia Stonic more or less same price adjusting motorisation and equipment. Captur, Puma, 2008, Yaris Cross, Juke, Mokka, Avenger, even Kamiq and Arona costing more than T Cross.
My explanation for those prices is that VW in Croatia finally wants to have a bestseller amongst private car buyers in 2024. It is currently in 2nd place, and Opel Corsa is 1st.
When they said that EVs would reach price parity with ICE cars soon, we should've guessed that they meant the prices of ICE cars would be jacked up! I'm loving all that piano black on the centre console as well.
It's more than a lot. New Tiguan in Serbia with some pretty basic equipment, but with almost everything you actually need is around 38-9 thousand euros. Also, just a few months ago, my father paid a fully loaded Austral with 160 hp mild hybrid engine 34 k. This is really sick for a T cross...
At this price (26-30k), the FL Golf seems a better option. If you have the monney for the higher specced T-Cross, maybe have a look at T-roc, or even Tiguan.
That was supposed to happen in July, but Toyota needed the press LBXes for some marketing event, and now I don't have a slot before spring 2025. At which point it will be irrelevant. Think Yaris Cross, but less bad :)
My main problem with this car is mileage... 7.1 is just way too much for that speed. I have a friend that bought one of the first gen t-cross and she complained a lot that even though it has 7 speeds it uses way too much fuel (she claimed about 8l/100) and that is just insane, specially with the cost of life we have today.
@@gabrielgherasim7902 thank you for that extremely important correction about a car that I don't even own. If you ever come by my side, I'll gladly pay you a coffee as a thank you for your noble action. You saved me a lot of embarrassment, I am eternally grateful to you!
Cars in this segment in 2024 should at least have full hybrid tech and 60mpg. VW are short changing it's customers with old tech at close to EV prices.
8 Litres? Must be an awful driver then. I never got any mid sized car too need that much fuel. Even a van 😂 Btw...you know brand new cars need more fuel for the first 5000 km or so?
I disscussed todays car prices with my Toyota dealer when the new C-HR was released back in december... His thought on it are that the car companies are targeting private lease before private sale. The monthly lease prices are usually quite low compared to buying and repaying a new car these days. I'm not sure if private lease are big in europe as in Sweden. But at least that was his thought on the high prices.
Depends on the country and on the brand. I recently spoke to an acquaintance, who's got a private lease on a C5 Aircross and pays something like 200 euro a month. While I understand the short-to-medium-term appeal of such leasing deals, I'm not sure about the long-term effects. Someone's going to end up with a lot of 2 year old stock that nobody will want, because it's cheaper to lease new for peanuts.
@@MarekDrivesENG In Sweden you need to pay alot for the "destruction"... But sure.... Children can be worse 😂 and don't get me started on the over km cost €2 per kilometer over the agreed amount....😂
Marek is absolutely right: The new one isn't better than the old one and waaaaayyyyy too expensive. The old one looked better from outside but cheep from inside. And the 3-cyl-engine(s) lacks of appropriate performance. Buy a Peugeot 3008 and you'll get a bigger, nicer, better car for less money. Even with a 2008 you are better off.
really what's wrong with physical buttons to set the temperature? doesn't the touch screen distract the driver while driving? one more thing Marek you look like you are losing weight no?
I have the same ac control on my car. It is not as bad as it looks. It can be worse, the skoda scala has the fan volume in the infotainment menu exclusively.
Grape yellow? It reminds me of urine after eating a lot of asparagus... but maybe I'm off on that one? I did enjoy your gymnastics in the rear seat!! In the spirit of the Olympics!! The T cross isn't avail in Canada. I think if I was living in Europe I'd buy a Honda or Toyota.
@@MarekDrivesENG yah but it's just an appliance car, and people buying a car like this want a bullet proof vehicle that has good resale. Even a friend of mine, who is a car guy, is buying a RAV4. I guess he's just getting old.

The infotainment display is already 7 years old with some new features in it, and VW called it "new". It just gets worse. The AC panel is just slaped there and they called it a day, same with the digital instrument panel. For this kind of money, I don't expect aliexpress digital instrument tunings as factory, but as the car world changes this is much more common that it used to be. I'm not even going to analyze the exterior "changes". It really is a cash grab. Although I would like to thank you for making this informative video. ❤
I really don't understand why people buy these crossovers from VW. There're so dull and soulless, even their names: T-Cross, T-Roc, Taigo. At least the competition has some nice looking alternatives. Actually, all these crossovers from the VAG group are the definition of NPC vehicles.
And funny thing they sell millions of them. I just dont get it. Skoda even has couple of simmilar cars in the same segment and they dont sell good at all. And of course as with Skoda, you get more for less money.
I hope you didn't buy it, it's probably equipped with puretech 1.2 engine which is the worst engine ever made in a history of automotive industry. We call that engine purecrap, pureshite...etc., timing belt issues, piston rings issues, consume too much oil and eventually fall apart. So, good luck if you got yourself a purecrap 1.2, and I'll rather stuck with VW 1.5 Tsi 4-cylinder engine and sleep peacefully. cheers
If this had AWD, I'd swallow the price. But it doesn't :( It's a shame, because I like this shape more, than the slightly bigger T-Roc (which is a "coupe" [roll-eye] because otherwise it'd cannibalize Tiguan sales).
So this model have few good things going on, a lot of average and bunch of negative sides... all that for small price of almost 40k? And they wonder why cheap (probably less safe) Chinese cars are selling like a cupcakes
The 1,5 l is by the way a very fine engine. Too bad you can't get it with a manual gear (which is much more fun to drive). If you want to, you'd have to buy a Seat Arona FR.
I wasn’t impressed by the 1.5 TSI in a Seat Tarraco, yes I know it’s a bigger car but I was alone in it. I’m used to a 190hp TDI Passat and the petrol seat felt gutless. The Seat was also manual which I don’t see the point of. The car is supposed to be my slave, not the other way around. I should not have to shift gears.
I live in Bulgaria - a shithole country in SE Europe. Everything is expensive here, and second hand is no exception. I recently bought a 2007 BMW X5 (E70) for ~9000 EUR). I have to invest ~2000 EUR more to get it up to speed the way I want it to be. That's 11000 EUR for a 15+ year car. I am doing all of this through a loan. The loan is for 5 years, and my monthly installment can get me a brand-new Citroen C4 something (a puffed-up hatch that looks a bit like C-HR).
