    Anytime someone is watching, it can not go smooth, but Pacific Mike and Cameraman Mike do such a good job. I'll watch your channel forever guys!

    Hi Mikes, thanks for another interesting video. Mike, I think your missing a golden opportunity for a new T-shirt design - simple script, four little words... "And there it is!" 😂 Would be a great conversation starter with those unfamiliar with the channel! And cameraman Mike, I feel for you with the mosquitoes... hope you don't come up in big welts like my son does. Keep the great work coming guys! Cheers. 👍👍🇦🇺

    I couldn't afford a piston ring compressor set, so I used large hose clamps. They worked well.

    That tool was really nice. That's the easiest I've ever seen a snapring go on. On car axles they're always a pain. I had one pop back off on me recently. You know what happens then. No power and lots of noise.

    I am bring an old pan back to life. It had no compression so I pulled heads and jugs. Pistons are OE and appear to be within spec. Cylinder is glazed but after quick ball hone should also be in spec. Any reason not to reuse pistons with new rings or would I be building a time bomb in your opinion?

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've had pistons that I ran for a long time then passed to another guy who ran them again for a long time. Look then over good and. if you're happy with them, run 'em. Everything super clean. Nice fresh "crosshatch" honing job with a ball hone. Carefully fit the new rings according to specs. Now, the valves will need attention.

    14:15 I have had 2 plain fiber base gaskets blow out of Shovels. Hot rods, but I will still only use James steel core base gaskets like Mike has here from now on.
    16:06 I still hope Mike sized the bushing correctly. A light press fit is vastly tighter than the .0008" to .0012" spec in the factory manual. Last video he seemed to have misread the manual and confused pin to piston fit with pin to bushing fit. Then he repeated "light press fit" here in this video. Light press fit is size on size and is the pin to piston spec. Pin to bushing spec is .0008" to .0012" loose, and is an effortless slide in. Is there actually a chance Mike is doing it incorrectly? If he fit the pin to bushing at a light press fit then it will fail quickly.
    I made a tool like at 17:45 out of a non grooved Harley wrist pin that I tapered on one end with a belt sander, a bolt through the middle that I sized on the belt sander to just slide through the wrist pin, and a piece of tubing that just fit over the wrist pin. Same too here but home made. I made that in 2003 and it is still in my special tools drawer
    23:00 I have the exact same ring compressor. KD 850H. Best I ever had. Much better than a hose clamp... I only have the size ring that fits Ironhead Sportster, but it can open up far enough to do big twin Harleys though.

    I installed external oil drains from my head to ceases. It’s a big bore stroker shovelhead. I run it where the primary would return to the case. Now all the oil is dumping out the case vent line. What did I do wrong. They are ultima cases.

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you're expecting that return in the primary to do more than it's capable of. Building strokers according to S&S specs wil usually keep you out of trouble. I think you're trying to reinvent the wheel.
