Silicone is bad news, but better than digging out JB weld. Unfortunately, I have experience with that. I am sure you already know this. But a lot of new mechanics don't. You've got to be real careful getting the right cylinders on the right lower end on the old iron. I was building a 48 EL basket about 45 years ago in my twenties, and I put on later cylinders not realizing my mistake (l was a newbie). Started it up, it ran good, then started smoking like hell! I couldn't figure out what was going on. My Dad stopped by and told me I'm using the wrong cylinders. You didn't have the luxury of nowadays of just going in and buying everything you need over-the-counter or ordering online, you had to scrounge for it. My dad cut his teeth on Knuckles, Pans and 74" Flatheads, cuz back then that's all they had. Eventually, my stubborn ass figured out he was right, as oil wasn't returning and it was filling up in the heads and burning off. An amateur mistake but I was still learning back then. Still riding Panheads. Nowadays it's a 1949 EL.
Just got a “basket case” 1958 pan motor that dropped a valve when it had a Shovelhead top end on it. Pretty sure I’m going to turn it back into a Panhead. This video was very helpful!
Best part of this swap is one less engine out there causing social media dumbass arguments every time someone says "pan/shovel" in reference to it haha. Great video man, good detail.
I just saw this in my feed ,, I see it a year old at this moment,, is this Bobs house of Choppers from Irwindale ,, I saw the king bolt which is an awesome place on grand Avenue in Covina ca
Some wound-up guy in Florida has a video all about the art of honing the cylinder walls and a big break-in period for Harleys. Not sure if it would apply to Panheads or indeed if it's important or not. Very involved.
I have a 50 panhead and I'm useing v twin head how did you removed the Threaded spigots I'm doing the same thing going with a super E carburetor. Thank you for your response and time.
I enjoy watching this type of videos. Brings back great memories. Sorry but I have to say it again. I cringe when I see you use power tools with your hair down and no eye protection. One little mistake and you're in a world of hurt. I have long hair and always put my hair back and wear some type of eye protection when I work with power tools or machinery. Safety First.
no kidding! when i did welding and had to use power tools, i was using a power drill one day and had my long ass hair down and it barely touched and end of the drill and then… “FUCK!!!” it rolled it up to my scalp and ripped out a fatass chunk.. learned my lesson
Very thorough build skills with a high attention to detail. Would be interested to know how you started up this business. I would trade working on airplane hydraulics for a job like this in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work bro.
I'm curious about how do you make sure that the silicone, gaskets bits or sealant isn't lost inside. You mentioned blowing out the oil ports, can that debris end up down somewhere where you don't want a bunch of chunky stuff or does it blow up and out the drain vein? Appreciate the thoroughness of the vid!
After you install the o ring style fitting did you just leave the hole open or did you use the pins that came with the kit. Your idea for the extra holes work like a charm. I truly appreciate your video and any help you can give. Thank you
Why didn't you pull the heads and cycliders off as a unit and eliminate the need for an allen wrench? Why didn't you spilt those cases to ENSURE that none of that silicone got into those oil passages?
Why would you put the pistols on first, now you have to fight with the rings, the fight with the cylinders? Why not put the rings on, then fit the pistons in the cylinders, then put everything on as an assembly, then all you have to do on the bike is 2 spiral locks?
Sorry for the late response. Shovelheads are superior over the panhead design. Flow is better, roker boxes dont leak, better rocker design, intake manifold flows smoother and the exhaust ports dont break every time you look at them funny. Are they as cool, not really but were not really building drag bikes either so either head will perform just fine for our applications! Thanks
Why wouldn't you put the rings on the pistons, then stick the pistols in the cylinders, then put that as an assembly on to the rods? That way all you need to do is put 1 clip on each wrist pin.
I had my 1958 back in the day, third rebuild with the top and lower and I loved every minute of that motorcycle
That's very brave, putting in the piston clips without covering the case ;-) Great video, thanks!
Yes thank you!! Appreciate the knowledge. Learn something new every time I watch your videos
Glad I could help with some knowledge! Thanks!

Actually I enjoy the long videos, thanks dude! Great video! Great bike! Thank you for taking your time for filming this
Thanks Manuel, yah I think I am going to be going back to this style for a bit here. Glad you like it!
Wish I could go back in time and and work on scooters like you thanks.

23:40 Mustard Plug rocks! 👍
panshovels are cool and all, but i say just let them be 66-69s.. keep panheads panheads
Love to watch a master at work
That was good for me , I even learnt a bit I know my Shovel's and Evo's but not Pan , thanks Mate

Great video. To remove silicone try “debond” i get it from Marine store. It literally melts the silicone. Way easier.
Panshovel love it I got a 61 panshovel

Good job Man, love a Panhead!
use PVC pipe on the connecting rods so they don't slap the sides of the case

What part number is that Y-Twin kit? I have a 52 pan that was converted to shovel and want to put it back to panhead
I see you use silicone on top cover gasket. I like best permatex 😎. Regards from Norway 👍

Great way to deal with spiral locks, over the open case?
Have a question? can you tell me the torque specs for the main sprocket nut and clutch hub nut???? Desperately need help. Thx
I’m running the same heads on my pan but I left the pipe fittings wish I knew it was that easy and I would be struggling with leaks now. 🤦♂️
I have a 1948 with an 80" Shovelhead in it.
Nice! Thanks for watching
Why didn't you pull the heads and cycliders off as a unit and eliminate the need for an allen wrench? Why didn't you spilt those cases to ENSURE that none of that silicone got into those oil passages?
VERY NICE, VERY TALENTED Bro.🙏
Thanks Bill!
@@houseofchoppers MY PLEASURE
HELL YEAH BRUTHERRR!!!
🤘😎🤘
👌 👌 Perfecto
Awesome
You aren't checking any of the clearances, you're just counting on a factory in Taiwan doing all of it correctly?
Why you gotta bring small hands into this
Try HYMOLAR gasket sealer . Called Gasket Dressing . Soaks into cork, ,remains plyable .
Is this essentially the same as disassembly of the top end of a cone shovel?
Yup pretty much the exact same process!
Great video thanks💪
Those are Inside Oiler heads ? How good are they for top end oiling.?
i have a set of 51 heads ,rotors etc sittingin a bo,reconditioned original harley. what are they worth ?
sitting in a box lol
Great video!! Is that a '52? Is it for a customer, or is it for sale? I've been looking for a '52; it's my birth year.

Did they not call those heads "power pack's," and a common upgrade back than?
How do these Panheads flow vs the Shovelhead heads.. ? I have a 57 Pan/Shovel and would like to put it back to a Pan.
Thnx
what do you mean flow?
@@skgate :Flow, as in air flow. A direct relation to power.
@@woodey028 no shit, what do you mean though like air flow over the heads? or do you think there’s air flow going on inside?

How do i get cases like that!!! new case or use case…
TO HOLD CULBUS RODS
YOU SHOULD TAKE CLOTHES PEG (WOODEN)

This is a damn good vidjayo
Do you ever listen to music when yer wrenchin?
Is that a car tire on the rear? If so, what wheel and tire is it?
Todo muy lindo pero trata de hablar menos porque cansa
Guarantee you, you bent a ring putting them on like that. What ever you do, don't show the customer this video.
