I really enjoyed this podcast! One thing my Dad taught me early on is to do the "hardest thing on your
to-do list for the day, FIRST!"
Then, the rest of your day builds on confidence & success.
    He was right.
He was a Marine. God bless hime ❤

Habits in and of themselves are not necessarily good, they may in fact be "bad" or counter to what may be perceived as a good or desired outcome. The real issue is why/how are habits adopted and why? Yes, I hear you got to it. Habits create structure (in my view). As behaviors become ingrained and habitual, they then become (routine) an act that does not require psychological or emotional energy to do. This becomes an efficient way that we do many things in day reserving our energy for tough less familiar or complicated tasks. I have now watched several of these podcasts and I just love the candor and humanistic approach to tough life issues. This suggests to me that aside from what you do for a living which does provide interesting insights, your a thoughtful person working through this complex life, as are we all!! Nice job..

Thank yall very much for the work on this video as well as all the others, there is a very obvious upward trajectory as far as the quality of the content goes. Making good content and developing that skill is just like anything else, its a skill that is going to take time and effort to develop, so keep it up. Its very much appreciated.
TLDR (if you don't feel like, or have the time to read this entire comment), How much does my undergrad school matter to medical school? IE do I have to go to an Ivy League school to get into a good medical school?
Alright, I want to start with some context about who I am. I am currently an engineer, I work in tech and I have by all intents and purposes, a successful career. But I have recently been called and or felt drawn to become a neurosurgon. Also, im 30 years old, okay so why? Well few months ago, I was just on a walk, and I was thinking about my life and just doing a self analysis type internal conversation. And I was just feeling very grateful about who I was and my situation, I am so very lucky and pivelaged to be who I am. I had a very good childhood, I have had a very fun and exciting 20s, I have a good career that i worked hard for and am financially stable. I really am at a point where my life is essentially made. Its amazing and I am very fortunate and lucky to be who I am. So my next thought was, the world really is my oyster, and I have three choices it seems to me.
    1) I can keep doing what Im doing, probably work for the same company in the same carrer forever, and there is nothing wrong with that and I could have a very good life and live happily ever after.
    2) I can have as much fun as possible, probably something to do with music, learn an instrument, join a band travel the world on tour, Thats a bit dramatic but the idea is. basically do what I think would be personally the most fun every day for the rest of my life. Also a good plan.
    3) and finally I could do the most intellectually interesting and impactful thing I can think of with my life, So I thought to myself, what is the most interesting thing I can think of, and every since I was a child I have been very fascinated by my own brain, and all brains really, but mine is the only one I can really spend time with. I have always been really interested in my own thoughts, and why I think certain things, why do I do certain things, and I really cant think of anything more facinating than the act of thinking, just everything about the mind is facinating.
Okay so I thought okay I am going to become a neuroscientist. I cannot imagine anything more facinating. But then I was thinking about the endgame, and it might be the engineer in my but I cam facinated with the mechanism of the brain rather than th eoutweard result of thsose mechanisms, I really want to understand the details of the brain, the anatomy and biology of thought. “whats going on under the hood” is something that gets said alot in my field. Okay so I am imagining that Ive accomplisged my goal, I went to school and I learned this information and I am completely fascinated and all good, but then what? what would be the practical application of this skill that I gain. That then led to the thought of service, how can I service and help others with this skill that I learned, how can I have the most positive impact on the world while I am here, and one thought to the next, I can save people lives with this knowledge of the brain by performing surgery.
Okay we are almost to the point of why I am actually commenting on this video.
I am already back in school and I am just at a local community college, because I wanted to see if I could even start, can I even work full time and go to school. that was step number one, and it is still early, but I can already tell that I am going to do it. I am definitely going to accomplish this goal.
Now for my question. With the goal after undergrad being medical school I was to be very deliberate with where I choose to do my undergrad giving me the best chance to get into a good medical school. ***actual question part here. There is a local school with a very good Neuroscience program and I am explaoring if it would be a good fit, But I am worried that if I dont go to some prestigious, well-known school, I won't be able to get into a good medical school after. How much does the actual school I go to matter to the medical school admissions? do you think going to a local (but still good) college will be enough, or should I focus my efforts on the more well known, possibly ivy league schools? Or is it all about MCAT scores?
Thank you very much, both of yall, for everything you do, and Any advice at all is much appreciated, and thank you for taking the time to read all of this.

Some good discussions! What Ironman's did you guys do? In 2017 during Ironman World Championships an SUV was directed infront of me. I had a bad TBI and almost didn't make it. The next year I came back and finished 6th overall at IMWC in Kona.

I thought habits whether good or bad are behaviors that come naturally without thinking through the process. Setting goals to change the behavior takes work to make a different habit
