Some interesting and good advice here. Thanks for posting. As a former smoker, I highly disagree with the gentleman who said smoking is not relaxing. When you are smoking you were doing two things: You have pulled yourself away from whenever is bothering you to go to a different location, and you are deep breathing! Smoking is relaxing in the beginning. Unfortunately the cigarette makers have figured out how to put chemicals in to make you addicted. That is what you're addicted to. It is the same with our food system unfortunately. Phillip Morris owns many big food manufacturers like craft etc. But I digress... If you do want to quit smoking, the best advice I can give is to keep trying! Even if you fail, try again! Eventually your body will rid itself of the effects of nicotine and you will simultaneously replace your old habits with new ones.

He's still right and you confirmed it. Smoking isn't relaxing because of the cigarette, it's relaxing because of the circumstances. You can go to a different location and take fresh air and deep breath without Smoking aswell. Cigarettes are not relaxing

The evidence says motivation is hard to maintain. You have to keep propping it up. Commitment is better. Motivation will follow commitment. Get there first, the cart will follow.

The 'why' gives the meaning. This gives you 'purpose' - what to do with your actions and time. He who has a strong why can over come any how. The meaning and the purpose. What is my purpose? That is dependent on the why. Steve Peters is magnificent.

When we tell ourselves we are going to do something and we journal it we reduce it's emotional impact and thus also the will power. If we don't acknowledge we have to do something we tend to forget. What to do?

If an expectation of the relationship is tidiness, then expecting praise & recognition for doing it is ridiculous. Hyperbolic example: If you walk into a house, and there is no roof you’re going to be upset because the expectation of a home is to have a roof. It provides shelter and security, etc. you wouldn’t praise them for making sure the home has a roof every day. It’s just supposed to be there.
One individual clearly laid out their needs: tidiness. To not have this is psychologically stressful and reduces their quality of life. Therefore they sought out a relationship with that need in mind. To pretend to be tidy is lying. You started a relationship on false pretenses. So, you either keep up the ruse the whole time, or you’re discovered as a liar. It’s not fair to then expect the other person to be a) psychologically stressed from an untidy environment & b) responsible for praising you for coming through on your end of the arrangement. That’s ridiculous.

Our countries have done business together beyond our generation. What trump has done is personal. Unsubscribed.

The « will power study » might not have to do with an hypothetical reservoir of will power but rather with how the participants felt they were treated by the experimenter! If you’re doing something for someone you kind of expect to be either paid or well taken care of, don’t you? And if you feel you’re being mistreated, then why would you try your best at a frustrating task?
Also, cookies are mostly fat and glucose which offer a quick boost to the brain, while radishes with their low glycemic index will nourish the body but not have the same effect on the brain…
I would hypothesize that will power or the lack thereof has more to do with the amount of energy that is available at any given time, than the other way around.
