"Wii doesn't actually use tech. Its all gimmicks." - That's the kinda stuff I would say back in 2007. I really despised the Wii back then. As I've gotten older I realize that I felt that way because Nintendo had always catered to me up until that point, and I was annoyed that they stopped doing so that gen. I don't really care much about video games these days but back then it felt like the sky was falling.

It's funny. I kept my Wii's complete box and packaging from the very moment I bought it brand new at Toys R Us, and everyone I knew that saw it always thought it was weird and pointless. Now, I have a near pristine, clean Wii Box from 2007 😎😎😎 hindsight served me well.

Not gonna lie, got a little bit nostalgic when I saw the Wii box in the thumbnail, even though I grew up during the N64 era & not the Wii era.

But the gamecube had like 80% good games - or else they wouldn't get ported over at all - so there is that library too to consider.

There's actually a lot of middle ground, it's just not very obvious because many games look like shovelware if you didn't know any better. Most of the niche, middle-budget PS1 and PS2 developers went over to the Wii due to HD development cost.
But something I wish most folks would do with the original Wii is completely ignore the shovelware that came on the system and just focus on the games that made the original Wii underrated to begin with. Yes, shovelware is huge on Wii, but that doesn't make the system bad if it has some actual great games on it and it does. And I'm not just talking about the Nintendo games on the system, either.
The Wii was my first ever real gaming console... I remember when I was 3 I went downstairs on Easter morning and the Wii was there. I had so much fun getting into games and series that I am into today, and I still play the Wii sometimes

Glad to see someone else going back to the original Wii. If I had to recommend a game, it would be Super Paper Mario. That game takes traditional 2d Mario to a whole new level, and it's simply amazing.
I super paper msrio destroyed the Rpg aspect of an paper mario game.
But it is an fun platform mario game.
I remember getting my Wii in 2008 on Christmas. Sitting there at the TV with my Mom & Grandma watching me play Smash Bros Brawl & all the times me & my parents would play Wii Bowling & Mario Kart Wii on weekends late at night. The Wii may not be the best thing in the world, but as my 2nd gaming console ever to have, it was the best thing in the world to 5 year old me at the time lol.

Such a nostalgic throwback to much simpler times. I can't believe it's been 15 years since the Wii made its debut. It seems like it was just yesterday and forever ago at the same time. I remember waiting in line outside of Target at a ridiculous hour in the freezing cold to try and get one. So much has happened and changed since then. The good old days. Take me back!!!!
My fondest memory of the Wii was finally being able to buy one in 2007, around my 24th birthday at the time. Still sad that the Wii Shop Channel is no longer with us, but we still have a plethora of games that can still be enjoyed on it to today.

Actually the "sensor bar" has the infrared transmitters (three ones, if I remember correctly), while the Wimote has the infrared sensor.

That wasn't from a Gamestop. I've seen some of the Wiis they take in and that thing looks brand new next to some of the ones they sell.

I use to work in retail it’s tough job dealing with customer especially rude or stubborn ones but anyways we always made sure when everyone went on break that there was at least one guy still working to assist anyone that needed help. We didn’t all just go on break at once.

The "sensor bar" is just a row of infrared lights. The actual sensor is on the remote. I actually use to put two candles on the side of the tv so that I could navigate to the homebrew channel since my sensor bar broke.

The Wii remote is what actually has the ir sensor in it. The bar doesn't transfer any kind of data it just has lights for the Wii remote to pick up.

I got my first Wii in December 2006 back when all the stores couldn't keep these in stock. My uncle wound up finding one in a Blockbuster of all places.

the gamestop story kinda reminds me of my own experience with Gamestop and the WiiU. The WiiU was about 6 months old at the time and I thought "Huh...Why don't I go buy a WiiU, some of these games look cool and I can finally put my Wii to bed." I was like...oh I don't even remember how old back then but I do know back then I had to trade in a lot of games I didn't play anymore, and while I could have bought a new WiiU, I bought a used one that was technically never used. I know because the Gamepad wasn't scratched up or have any smudges, it was completely clean, still all wrapped up, everything was neatly in place. The person who bought it prior, bought it for her grandson as a present for doing so well in school, but found out his grades were slipping, so she took it back before he/she had a chance to play on it.. So I ended up getting a practically NEW WiiU at the time for a used price of $50 off. I know the WiiU did fail but back then, that was a pretty sweet deal, you don't get that lucky very often.
Friends of mine got a Wii after we got back our lives back to somewhat normal after hurricane Katrina. The assessment you made about motion control after a year I made in the first five minutes of play.

The Wii that takes me back to when I first got it. I remember my Mom bringing it in her suitcase for me when she got back from her trip in Puerto Rico. Consoles are way expensive where I live, so Puerto Rico and the US were dirt cheap. I was so damn excited when I saw it in her suitcase gahhhh oh the memories.
Excellent find! Just recently I had the chance to unbox a fresh, crispy Wii that was hiding in my university physics lab. It was a later version that came with the Motion Plus integrated Wiimotes, and I was shocked to find that it didn't even come with Wii Sports!

I was given one in 2007 by some rich aunt I hardly ever saw, used it as a door stop until 2014, never even attempted to use it. Always loved my fat ps3, it actually made sense as a system

@Deku The Wii U didn't fail because it shared the same architecture as previous Nintendo Systems. It failed because of Bad Marketing
@Deku yea I'm with the other guy. It didn't fail cause of the architect, the 360 used a very similar architect as well. The problem was bad marketing and it released way to late. If it went head to head against the Xbox 360 and PS3 it could have sold phenomenal. But instead it released in November of like 2012 and just barely over a year later the PS4 and xbox1 came out and made the tech look inferior big time
@Deku they didn't have a hard time developing for it because of the architect, certain developers just refused and bitched cause the CPU was to slow and bottle necked the GPU. It had better graphics than the 360 but a slower processor. Developers just didn't want to scale back assets to get everything to run well

I disliked the Wii. I brought one just for Monster Hunter 3 and I regretted it.
Monster Hunter 3 was ported to the Nintendo 3DS (a superior system) as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate a year later too.
(Monster Hunter 3 was awesome though!!)
But the Wii had superior graphics then the 3ds.
I only really used my Wii U for MH3U, a very fun game

Wii was awesome, original Xenoblade (best one), Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, two Zeldas, Metroid prime 3, Sin and Punishment Star Sucessor, and anyone that says they didn't enjoy Wii Sports at launch is lying!
