    I think the moon watch and this watch are the two most value for money watches when it comes to chronograph's.
    I know the screwdown crown won't make sense to some but they are very practical to use and longer life.
    Love the watch snowflake hands uhhhhh let's say I like chronograph's but don't use the chrono function, I know it sounds stupid but it's true
    Thanks tgv for doing this. Really wanted to see this review 10/10

    I vastly prefer its look to the Daytona, without mentioning that you dodge the bullet of people thinking you're wearing a counterfeit Rolex while you actually saved up. Beautiful little machine.

    Am I crazy or is this not designed to be a diver at all? It just happens to use a similar case as the black bay to save Tudor money and to keep it water proof.

    • @mikesonkwan5363
      @mikesonkwan5363 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agreed, not sure why people even mention it as a diver.. It's simply a chronograph with the Black Bay case - nothing wrong with this.

    TGV, I apologize. Yes, I know I am posting 2 years since the last post. But, I just purchased a new Tudor Black Bay Chrono in s/s with the s/s bracelet from a Tudor AD at a discounted price. This watch is an addition to my Tudor Black Bay GMT also with the s/s bracelet. The BB Chrono is an amazing value for the watch you get both from a quality (1st rate COSC Movement) as well as a aesthetics perspective (it wears well and can be worn casual or formal). I view the Tudor brand as its own brand without it seeming like an old man's watch like it's parent brand can project at times and at a fraction of the price of Rolex, Omega and Breitling. This Tudor Black Bay Chrono is worth the price of admission.

    • @asko7113
      @asko7113 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great perspective from a Chrono owner! Even with the latest Tudor Chrono releases I find myself liking this one more and more. I’ve tried it on and honestly I think it wears smaller than it’s dimensions suggest. And at 14.5mm tall, the way the case steps up to the glass makes it appear thinner too. It just hugs my wrist so well. I never asked my AD about a discount but with the new ones selling out as soon as they arrive, this one might be available at a small discount. Curious, how much did you get off the list price % wise?

    Fantastic watch. Tudor are knocking it out of the park in the last few years. If you analyse these watches too closely then none of them really make sense. A diver chrono? If it looks good (which it does) then why not!

    Those chaps at Tudor should have made this chronograph with a blue dial & very subtle gold hands & markers.
    As you rightly point out TGV,they should also have gone to the trouble of designing a bespoke crown for this model

    Beautiful piece,I would wear it proudly.My only problem with this watch is that the original black bay is ( to my eye ) such a perfect diver that is classic yet obviously not a submariner or a seamaster clone. If I was spending my own money the black bay with the black dial and red dive bezel would be my choice.

    Feels like a chrono that just happens to have dive watch features. It's like giving the Alpinist 200m water resistance - don't need it, but doesn't hurt to have either. It's taken many notches higher here. It's done well enough that I can't hate it for its identity crisis, lol.

    Truly the best of both worlds. Chronograph, and Diver in one. Though the price is a bit of a turn off. But I don't have that much money anyway. Though if I did have $5000 to spend, this watch would be on my top ten list of things to buy. Though I would totally go for it if the dial was a dark or royal Blue.

    I love the look of the watch and don’t have a problem with the diver/chrono issue as I don’t really see the normal black bay as a diver. I appreciate that may sound strange but it’s so vintage looking it just seems like a retro sports watch.
    The Pelagos is a proper diver and for me the blue is the most attractive Tudor out there- as it’s the least rolexey. This chrono would always feel like a cut price Daytona to me, a problem I have with most Tudors. I know that’s just me and I’m missing out on some great watches but there’s loads of other great watches out there so it’s all good!
    Great video as always 👍🏽

    Hi TGV
    Well; seemingly an extremely well made watch covering every need except the very dressy occasions and the most rugged use. With a nice dress watch and a beater to compliment it, you could in fact do with a tree watch collection. Could be a G Shock for the beater part (-here you would also be covered with a GMT function) and whatever for a dress watch - there’s so many of them...
    I think that Tudor has done this one tastefully, despite the mixed genres. Masculine but quite elegant too...
    The problem with the low sitting crown and the short distance to the pushers it shears with for example my own beloved Speedmaster Reduced. I always have to take the watch off my wrist to adjust it. Well; it’s a minor problem - love hurts😉
    Keep up the good work👍

    Super sexy watch IMO . There are planet ocean chronographs that are very popular and breitling super ocean chronos, so i dont see the problem with a diver chrono from Tudor. They already have their racing inspired line with the monte carlo. The inhouse 70 hour power reserve move,ment makes all that much better .

  • @asianbboy911
    @asianbboy911 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As mentioned before by other people who have reviewed this time piece my BIGGEST issue with this watch is not about the quality. Its the snowflake hand. Why does a watch that is trying to be a chronograph have a large obstructive hour hand designed for diving? They serve completely contradictory purposes. Like with any other dive watch the purpose of the large accented hour hand has been to clearly differentiate the hour hand from the minute hand, something that needed to be done due to visual obfuscation caused by light being distorted while underwater. A chronograph has a different purpose. At its core it is to serve as a stop watch. Yet that core piece of utility is completely blocked off the moment that the hour hand ends up close to the 3oclock or 9oclock mark. So 4 times a day (or more accurately 3 times a day unless a person is awake at 3am in the morning) a wearer of this watch is left incapable of using a fundamental purpose of this watch due to a design feature that was tact on. While I do understand that the vast majority of wearers don't use their watch's chronograph functions or dive with their dive watches I would hope that such a storied and influential watch brand like Tudor would know better than to forget the horological foundations of why they made such influential design decisions (snowflake hand) and why chronographs were created in the first place.

    Urban. I am lusting after a Rolex Daytona 116500ln, white dial. As you know, that is a tough pursuit to get for retail from a AD (I have one AD in my local city - I am on the "wish" list as of Feb this year). Myself, I never fallen in love with the Subs or the James Bond look. I am not "aquatic" we'll say, though I am motorsports savvy and I love the look and use of Chronos very much. My love of watches came from the Seiko Arnie, the re-issue my first watch purchase in 16 years and I love it! I can wear it to work or while tinkering around in the garage. I have thought of a Patek 5119G-001 (very close to the Drive movie replica), gorgeous dress watch in it's simplicity and style and a watch obtainable for below it's original retail price (rather than double!). HOWEVER; Tudor is a name that I have learned about in the last year or two of really getting into watches and watch searching and the Tudor Black Bay Heritage Chrono S&G has completely caught my eye, esp on the leather strap. I don't normally go for black dials (prefer white or silver), nor two-toned, but there is a majestic collage of color that makes it so appealing. This is a watch that IS in stock (both leather and metal bracelet) at my AD and as soon as they open again (closed due to covid atm) I am going to try on and likely buy. Thoughts?

    I like the BB Chrono, but the 50mm L2L makes me a bit hesitant. If Tudor could find a way to make this case 40-41mm across, 48mm L2L, and 20mm lug width, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

    I think this review is very detailed, to the point and informative. I completely understand your opinion but I think the desire to fit all watches into genres is a bit old fashioned. It doesn’t have to be diver, formal, racing or air boy. It can break free. Actually the more I think about it the more this is like the Daytona, which is a racing watch with screw down crowns and crown guard, so even more of a hybrid. At the end of the day Tudor has produced a unique and rugged chronograph which can be used “off road” in jeans but also under a suite. The leather strap is more comfortable and much lighter and a black strap makes it look very stylish. One of the best chronographs around at the moment IMHO if you want a watch with staying power for the long term collection.

    Tudor with the North flag, the black shield and the Monte Carlo were shedding the “poor man’s Rolex” Tag by producing their own unique designs...then they did the following
    1/ released the poor man’s Daytona
    2/ gold plate center links on some of their watches
    3/ release a Pepsi GMT in aluminum the same week Rolex announce a Pepsi GMT in ceramic.
    They were doing so so well and have now well an truly confirmed themselves as a “poor man’s Rolex” for years to come. They should have released a Coke GMT in aluminum or and completely un-Rolex white and Black GMT to differentiate the two brands.... but they got lazy.

    Mixing genres? Where do you get that this is a dive watch? Does it have an unidirectional moving bezel with dive timing? Because of 200m WR with screw-down crown and pushers? It is just universal durability factor in this case put into a racing chronograph watch. Size of the crown? C'mon...let's just don't get lured into playing normalization games of our mind. In this case there is no controversy about mixing genres at all. I completely agree with your points to the watch's size. From my perspective the bigger wrist it is put on it can feel more formal/dressy - on 7" and above. And this applies on the new panda and reversed panda versions with black aluminium bezel even more. Thanks for good review!

    I love this watch and am strongly considering. I like the water resistance and would feel less protective of it than a Rolex Daytona--though I definitely want to own a steel Daytona if I can ever find one. I also love the bands that come with this watch. The cloth bands are incredibly well made, and the watch arguably looks better on the cloth band.

    I think it should have been issued with a rotating dive bezel. Bezel should have followed the existing black bay colour schemes (blue, red, black). Would be nice if the Tudor heritage chronographs were updated with the B01 movement actually. Definitely more interesting designs imo than the current BB chrono.

    Huh, didn't realize some people didn't like it. I personally love the combination, especially since I have found the diver's lume style easier to read in low lighting than typical chrono dials, so, liking both chronos & divers, having a chrono with high water resistance and an easily readable dial is great.
    That being said, having a chrono-diver in my collection, the large diver hour & minute hand does block the chronograph's subdial at obvious times of day, so the features of the complications does clash a bit.
    Still, from the second I first saw it, I loved the looks of this watch!

    Too much of a missed miss match, good to see brands trying something different when they pull it off and Tudor appeals to the heart usually as the classy underdog but this time is speaking more to the head and the heart always wins out. Another very informative and well done review TGV.

    I absolutely love the Black Bay chrono! Of course i admit i am biased, a coin flip would be the deciding factor for me between a vintage Tudor Submariner and a Rolex Sub. Same goes for a black bay and modern sub.

    Thank you for such a well informed review, very well put together and I agreed with everything you said. I really like the watch, kind of a mish mash, however I think it just adds charm to the style. The close up shots really does show the quality of the piece and the bracelet is amazing with a smaller length sized clasp, which I prefer as then you are getting more bracelet (links) I've always thought big long clasps ruin the look of a great bracelet, but not with this piece. Quality watch, quality review, many thanks😀👍

    Hi TGV. Great, informative review as always. I’m only a recent viewer/subscriber, yet I’m now totally addicted!
    I turn 50 next year and am deciding on my first mechanical timepiece. This is on my list now! I adore this watch’s “anti-purists” attitude! As I’m an avid anti-purist in anything!
    Currently on the hunt for an SNK809 to start my collection. (I’m assuming my current and only watch can’t really be called a “collection”!)
    All the best TGV, keep up the amazing work 👍🏽

    Question about this movement based on B01. How often should the chrono be operated? Some leave it on to allow it to remain well lubricated, others off all the time. Some argue that operating it on or off daily could wear the clutch? I have the new tudor BB chrono and wondering if I could let the chronograph run and crew the crown down, would that be harmful?

    I'm not sure why some people are having such a conniption over this watch, calling it a "parts bin special" or a "Frankenstein". I think people are overthinking the issue. It's basically just a slightly larger Daytona inspired chronograph. It just happens to have some added water resistance, but I highly doubt that Tudor feel like it's supposed to be a diver. My only real complaint with it is the case diameter and overall scale. If it were 39mm with 20mm lugs and scaled down to those proportions, I'd be interested.

    Great review, TGV. I like it... It's just not a diver in any way (other than the "Black Bay" association). I actually prefer the look to the modern Daytona. Personally, I'd like to lose the date (or at least make it "white on black")...

    Thanks for sharing. Intriguing watch. Really contemplating a buy. It's different from the rest, which is a good thing. Love the 2subdial look versus 3subdials.
    Since my daily driver is a 44mm with 18mm thickness DeepSea James Cameron version, Tudor's 14/15mm is a thin watch to me. Really liking it. Thanks again for sharing. Been enjoying your video's for years now. Keep up the good work mate👍

    Do you think it's okay to wear a dive watch with very slim wrists? I'm so taken with the orient blue ray 2, but I don't know if I should get my hopes up with my slim wrists :( (although I'm yet to try it on!). Always look forward to a new TGV video, yay!!

    • @keggerous
      @keggerous 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 6 inch wrist and smaller watches are a blessing. If you are ok with being a little uncomfortable, then get a big watch . . . but it you want comfort, i'd focus on something that will fit your wrist better. I find dive watches are too heavy for me and they feel bulky. Too each their own though.

    Though I’ll never part with my Rolex Sub the addition of this and the standard Black Bay Stainless with date function has me considering adding either to my collection and would most likely be my most frequently worn watch. Both in my minds eye fill a place in my collection and I think for many people in the marketplace’s view that renders the Explorer II unnecessary in a collection.
