I'm learning to read Thai right now, and I'm struggling so much with trying to read modern Thai around town. I do well with traditional letters, but missing so mucho. This video was excellent and helped a ton. Thank you
I studied all Thai constant and vowels without knowing anything about the fonts so I was so confused when i saw fonts and thought it was english mixed with Thai consonants lol BIG thanks to kruu Smuk for making this video it cleared all the problems for me 🙏
From the beginning of my thai alphabet learning, I differentiate Dor Dek and Kor Khwai, by the direction of the circle, like the letter d, the circle of the d is left side, and the Dor-Dek also, the letter k with a < right side, like the circle of the kor khwai on the right side. d, Dor Dek, Left. k, Kor Khwai, Right. And I can never forget it anymore.
Thanks so much Kru Smuk, this is really really helpful. Have you thought about putting that in the Thai-reading/Writing course? It would be a great addition to the basic formal font. Many farang struggle, when they learn to read Thai and then gets introduced to modern fonts 😁😁😁 It's like they have to learn all over again, until they learn how to spot the differences and what to look for
When I learnt to Read Thai in the UK and then bought a can of soda whilst in Thailand the writing on the can was like a completely different language ..the fonts are wild in Thailand .. thanks for spending an hour of your life talking about this must known subject ..ขอบคุณมากครับครู
Great video! I hate the "modern" fonts mostly because they're not internally consistent. How ว turns into a backwards C is a mystery. And why not keep the angles the same in ผ, ฝ, พ, ฟ? The only thing worse is trying to read the Japanese and Chinese stylized fonts on the food carts.😂
Just a curious question, at what age Thai kids are able to read? there are sooooo many details, and the alphabet is way larger than the roman one, just wondering how long takes. Thank you Kru Smuk,

This is the BEST breakdown of the consonants ever! Their identifying characteristics really clicked into place. Thank you!

Hi, you can check out our Thai course here: www.bananathaischool.com/course/intensive-thai-beginner/ or send me an email at info.bananathai@gmail.com
I get confused with จ and ง, ร and ธ in modern font. They look the same 😢
Flip U we say upside down.

About the same time as English speaking kids. English is harder to read than Thai.
These modern fonts are killing me 😪
