I think yours are some of the best quilt pattern overview videos on the web. Organized, concise, well lit, all the vital information and short on "fluff." Thank you very much! ❤

do you typically wash your quilt top and backing/binding before quilting? I have a top finished and not sure which to do first. wash or quilt and bind, then wash. Thanks.

I've been quilting for two years, there are a lot of conversation over this topic, if i do not wash the pieces I'm quilting, I do not wash the quilt top, I wait to put the entire quilt together, sandwich, quilt, bind ... then give to the recipient with instructions for washing and include a box of Shout Color Catcher.

I would not wash the top, I would finish the quilt first and use the color catchers.

I've made this pattern in several color schemes and one that stood out to all my neighbors was in Christmas fabrics. I laminated lame gold to a stabilizer and that was all the stars. The large center blocks and the pieces between the stars were random rich fabrics usually with metalic gold highlighs. Sounds gawdy but, decadent is more fun.

I love how you remind some of us that some things don’t matter. Many of us learned to do things and were told that every step had to be perfect. And, that for many of us killed the joy of quilting for a long time. Than you for giving us permission to do our best and what is really important to know. Because of you I have learned how to iron and press properly and that has made a world a difference also learning the little tricks to getting a good seam. Thank you.

Your tutorials are always informative. Of special interest is the comment you made in passing in this tutorial that you did NOT use a batik for the binding. About two years ago my eldest granddaughter asked me to replace the binding on one of her quilts since it was wearing out! What? Well, I must admit that the binding was truly wearing away at many of the areas where I'm sure she grabbed it when sleeping or making the bed. I used a complimentary 100% cotton that was NOT a batik and merely put the new binding over the original batik one. I have not used a batik fabric for a border since this request and I have mentioned it to my long arm quilters and to various quilting group meetings I attend. I believe you should mention this more often. It is disappointing to find that the batik I lovingly chose and used was not sturdy enough for regular use.

Thanks so much for posting all these video's. I've been sewing my whole life, and quilting off and on for 10-15 years. I never grow tired of learning and creating. I wish I had heard about your retail store before you changed to only online shopping. I would have loved to come shop your store! My quilting friend and I live just a half hour from Yreka, Ca, and don't have many choices to pick from to buy our quilting fabrics from, just Walmart. We come up to Ashland/Medford once a month and try to shop there. I will purchase fabric by mail from you, but sure wish I could peruse your store, it's beautiful. Thanks again for all your inspirational video's, Kathy

a small tip that i think i learned from sharon schamber, use cheap mechanical pencil, it is the same thickness all the time, as well you can rich the exact point on the fabric if you tilt it 45 deg from the ruler.
thank you for the video, love your videos!!!

    • @Wisepati

Becky Ezra Rather than a cheap mechanical pencil that I would throw away and add to the plastic pollution I use a refillable one by Pentel.

I love this video, as I do all of your videos. My question is, would it be possible for you to do a video of how to put the backing on a quilt? The backing is on the other side of the batting, and being new to this, I'm just not too sure how to line it up. Thank You, and hope this question was okay.

I bought this quilt from you quite a while ago. Wasn't sure what materials/colors I wanted to use, and you have done it again! Picked exactly what I would have chosen. This is the first time I have seen this tutorial, and as usual you are amazing with your explanations. Since this tutorial is over two years old, I fear you no longer have this fabric in your shop! Do you have the name of the collection? I always smile when I watch your tutorials and say "wow, I can do that". Thank you for being an inspiration to us and taking the time to thoroughly explain each step.

Beautiful! On my list to make. Love the colors. Didn’t think I would like your border, but it turned out perfect! I have a problem putting colors together, so am often surprised when my project comes out well. I am a little confused about the tape method you showed for sewing the diagonal. Do you line up the tape on the 1/4” seam line? Thanks so much for doing these tutorials. They are so inspiring.

    • @jordanfabrics8380
      @jordanfabrics8380  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I put the tape on a line straight down from the needle hole which is my stitching line, not on the 1/4" line.

    First!
Donna, kudos, then a question. First, let me tell you you’re the very best. I’ve been watching other quilters and their different patterns. Appliqué and everything else. Boy they can’t hold a candle to your prep and sheer professionalism. Everything is as close to perfect as you can make it as well as trying to teach a novice like me. They look like messes compared to you. Thanks, thanks, thanks.
Now, the question. I notice what seems to be a finger guard on your machine. I put a needle right through my nail once. Wow, talk about hurt. If that is a guard can I get one for my Bernina too?
Again, thanks for your expertise, neatness and everything else. The camera work is great too.

Donna, Matt, and James run what I call the tight ship of quilting videos. There's no dead weight anywhere in the visual or verbal instructions. I was a high school arts & crafts teacher for a number of years, so I recognize the level of skill and dedication it takes to be consistently focused in your presentations. Other YT quilting videos I've seen pale by comparison.

Does Utube choose the music and demand it be included? or is it choice of the video producer? Why do nearly ALL the videos have music? It adds nothing and gets annoying really fast. Yes the mute button does get rid of it, but also gets rid of the speaking... which is better than just text at the bottom of the screen.

This one has a firm hold in the top five quilts of all designs seen anywhere. You have four of those five in your videos - the fifth was pieced by my great grandmother and grandmother, with my grandmother finishing it (all by hand!). That one I believe is called A Flower Garden Quilt. She gave it to me as a wedding gift - and is obviously my favorite wedding gift as well as my favorite quilt design. I have no ambition to try that design though - the pieces are all hexagons! If i tell you the quilt I want to make (it would be my first quilt!!) can I get you to pull the fabrics and send me a picture of your choices? I know you don't have the same fabrics in stock but I want a very similar look to what you did - and i can't come to you!

Oh that is beautiful. Since you got your new machine you don't have the line drawn anymore. I still have my line drawn for the flip overs. I don't mind it being there at all. Use it almost every time I sew. lol Donna you are a gem. Beautiful work. Saving this pattern for sure!

I love the dark batik on the back and the quilt pattern, wild roses, you chose. Think I would prefer the dark as the border with that first green/blue you showed as the back. Will have to make up my mind before I call, ha, ha. The more I watched this, the more I like the pattern. Guess I will have to get it afterall, I love star blocks and log variations best. Thanks again for all you do.

Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and talent. Your videos have really changed my life. I happened upon them one night and now I have a new found hobby. I can't draw a stick figure but I can cut and sew a straight line. Because of you and other youtube teachers, I have a new artistic passion inspired by your creations.

I LOVE your videos! I'm fairly new to quilting, so I love seeing all the new pattern ideas. I use an AccuQuilt cutter, so am trying to figure out how to convert some of these to their dies.

I love this quilt, I have to make it now. Thanks for the tutorial. I would have passed on the pattern thinking it too advanced until you demonstrated how easy it is. BTW I love the outfit you are wearing in the opening. Very lovely and feminine. Watching your videos makes me feel like a kid in Santa's workshop as you breeze by all the tempting and delicious colored fabrics I want to get them all!

I am a beginner quilter do you have anything for beginners. I was kind of taught by my mother many many years ago but never persued it until recently when I became disabled and sewing is something I can do. I have a bunch of half square triangles cut because I was going to do what she had taught me but I would like to try something different with them. can you help me.

Love your videos!!! You explain everything so well. What brand and model number is your steam iron? It does such a god job for you.

I'm glad I found you this morning. I'm a "fast quilter" and I hate marking. I love your idea and I'm glad I'm not the only one that avoids making all those lines... slows me down too much.

I was in your shop a year ago and bought the background fabric used in this quilt and need more. What is the color and is it still availabe? Saw this quilt hanging on the wall and fell in love! Thanks for the great tutorials.

Bellissimi i vostri video peccato che sono nella vostra lingua e per chi non la sa perde tante notizie utili dovendo affidarsi solo alle immagini.

Wonderful and great video.... Could you and Matt do a video on cutting fabric that is one area I am having so much trouble with trying to cut to precise measurements and you and Matt do it so good and your quilts go together perfect.

Great look with the jewel tones, I wish you would have done the lavender as the border on the outside of the quilt. But it was nice to see you do lighter colors, but now I wish you would do one with lights and a pattern for summer or fall. ♥♥xo
