Harvey Spooner, thanks for this video. I had picked up a Kandi 110cc kart that was in poor shape and needed an engine change. I got a 125cc chinese motor like the one you used in the video. I spent almost 3 days trying to get a spark with no success till i watched this video. it is running. only thing is my kill switch, when it is on it kills the engine and the engine runs when it is off. no biggie though. I will get a push button kill switch.
I wanna thank You sooooo much Harvey. This video helped and educated me exactly what wire is which in detail and helped me be able to put together a 125 dirt bike/motard . I need further help regarding basic installation of a rectifier and what wire does what and exactly where they need to go... THERE ARE NO VIDEOS THAT COVER THIS IN DETAIL....at least as well as I believe you can explain.

So, if you have multiple ground wires, do you connect all ground wires together. Basically, if you have two ground wires coming from bike do you connect to the single ground from cdi
I have a x18 super pocket bike, im trying to bypass the rest of the wiring and hook up the cdi straight to the motor, i have all 5 cables coming out of the motor, and matching ones on the cdi. I connected all of them together accept yellow and white. I left white dangling, and i tried hooking the yellow from the engine to the ignition coil, and then the yellow from the cdi to the ignition coil
hey buddy !!! i built a bike cd 70 honda based , when it came to wire it up i hook up blue+white to blue+white , black+red to black+red groung to ground and then black and yellow to coil along with green and put the spark plug cap on , it seems it can work but it misfires more than firing right

OH!! and btw.... the Green and Red wire from the engine is a wire for a "Neutral Light" option.... ;) Used mine and got it up and going from the yellow wire out to a LED light on my killswitch.
Great videos mate very helpful, I have a ybr 125 engine standing out off the bike and wount spark iv followed the cdi wire up video but still no spark, I don't have the frame to ground. So do all my grounds go to engine casings??, could this cause a perminant off switch condition?? All my parts are new cdi coil etc, stator checks out out with multi meter, iv made shure the black and white off switch wire is not touching any thing cheers from England....
It turns over perfectly using the starter moter aswell, I noticed you don't use a rectifier in the cdi wire up video just stator to cdi, I always thought a regulator had to be used.
Good afternoon I wanted to ask you if I get no power out of blue and white and black and red do I have a timing issue with my atv. My flywheel has a spot for the trigger coil to pick up on but nothing. Do these flywheels go bad or timing
cheers Harvey so in my case the (red and yellow wire) from the kill switch goes directly into the bottom middle point in the CDI? does not connect into another wire and then into the CDI?

Harvey Spooner Aye my ssr has a wire harness coming out near the chain and one from the stator I know where to connect the stator but can't find anything to connected to the other harness and bike doesn't get spark help me please. Is there supposed to be like another Cdi or something? Cause there's already one

hey man nice video I did hook up my lifan looking at your vid. now I have three more wires left this wires are for the light one is green = grown and a white and a yellow I did hook a light to the white ,,it work till a half throttle and burn there is any of the wires ready for a light or need a regulator thanks
Hello I have a 2012 SSR, do not think it has stock motor on it(JetMoto on side of it). It ran EXCELLENT as long as I didnt let it sit 4 2 long(3 week or more) then its a bitch 2 start. But this time it wont start, so my plan is 2 replace all wiring(CDI/Ignition Coil/& most important 2 me Voltage Regulator). All these have nice 4 prong connections, do I need a wiring harness or use my own wire & connections
Hey Hunter!!!! Did the bike loose spark??? It seems that some or all 4 pin CDI units use DC power, some use 12volts from the battery, some use rectified AC off the stator.... My lean would be to make sure the battery has a charge on it or if no battery, I would roll it down a hill and pop start it. I would not replace anything quite yet, make sure Ur on and off switch is working properly, all of Ur connections are good and that there are no broken wires, also, if it has the original plug, change it, China plugs are weak at best and absolutely horrible otherwise... What up Harvey, I had my friend pull me all most an 8th mile with his atv 2 pop start but no luck, that was b4 I messaged u. At this point I have the new CDI, & Voltage Regulator. I like my things 2 run good & b well taken care of, so I don't mind getting all new wiring 2 do that. It dose not have a battery, & i haven't put the new parts on yet.When I ordered them I had a delivery date of 11-22-16, but 2 of the 3 parts have arrived, 3rd will b here soon. King quad.. caught fire all wires burnt plastic melted Long story short I separated all the wires because someone grounds hot I've been watching I've been getting a lot of information has helped me I got the bike running again Carburetor Quickly redone But I'm having some issues With the reverse light switch or something probably coming from the motor I suppose I don't know Anything you can go over something new maybe to help me I appreciate it I'm thinking about doing is cutting wires and trusting that the colors that you say or what they are is what's coming out and I'm going to go with that I'm not sure I'm not sure what to do yet but But give me some insight on whatever I appreciate it Thank you
Just bought an "sdg" brand 125 pitbike. Has a no spark issue. Ive noticed it only has 2 wires coming from the engine case/stator, a white and a black. Does that seem correct? Which one is which? Stator and pickup coil
Hey Nate, Good luck with Ur SDG bike, I swapped the OEM motor out for a Lifan model, I'm going to have to look at the OEM motor again... If U don't hear from me over the next couple of days, please remind me.... Normally the CDI stator wire is black with a red stripe and the pulse generator wire is blue with a yellow stripe, the green wire is ground.... take ur magneto off and see if u have 2 coils of wired stator coils.then note that the wires comin out are from small coil fpr firing.id say u have only 1 for firing or power and one for the pulse control.u will see the pulse control knob or nub.note wire color.same with other.

I’m trying to wire this up to a go kart. I have 3 green wires do they all go to ground besides the one that plugs into the engine? I have 2 black/white wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated this is getting on my nerves.

Hey Ryan, If U have a solid spark, Ur ignition system is probably good, (the CDI, coil, stator, plug, and harness are all good), I have to ask the next questions, what happened to the bike between when it was running last and now... Was it taken apart, did it sit for some time, did it run out of gas, or did it just plain of stop running???? Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!
IThank you for getting back to me, from watching your videos I really gained some great insight into home repairs on my bike,Now the thing I did do the day/morning of my engine fail was change my air filter from the Dual layered foam type to a small Mesh or metal wire type cone shape. Both filters are $5 eBay entry-level ones after making that swap I rode approximately 2 hours before having trouble while coming down the hill from my favorite ride spot and my bike started to sputter and then completely died seeing as I was on a downhill I continually tried roll starting which normally I'm very good at and nothing the bike would attempt to turn over I could hear it making that trying to start noise. You know the one. Not to mention great compression and fat blue Spark. Even so first thing I tried was new NGK spark plug and seeing as my carburetor was the type you cannot remove the float Bowl I decided to upgrade to the Mikuni vm22 but still no start.
I bought a new lifan 150cc kickstart engine installed it today and it’s not turning it compression is good Changed the spark plug has a brand new carb bought a new wiring harness hooked it all up and fuel is clean but it’s not turning on please help I’m clueless on what it could be anythinnng I should do or check PLEASE HELP

Been finding out these CDI's only work on Hondas and china bikes. Tried a Polaris and a Suzuki LT400 and they burn out. The lt400 would only last one ride and burn out. My figure is the pick up coils output is to high.
+william staten , Good info! I'm planning on smashing the 12Volt version CDI into a 2 cylinder opposed golf cart with a double secondary ignition coil to fire both spark plugs. I wonder if the pulse generator on the Robin engine would kill the CDI box.... About Ur problem, I would find out what the resistance of the Polaris and Suzuki pulse generators are and add a series resistor to get to the 30 Ohm value that most Honda pulse generators are, if the series resistance is higher than 30 Ohms, I would go with a parallel resistor across the pulse generator... Honda Pulse generators cost about $18 on eBay, China clones go for about $10... I hope this helps... Thanks for all the good info, watching, and commenting!!!
Hi I just bought a pit bike don’t really know that much about them but from what I know the bike has compression and petrol in it but I checked for spark and it does not have spark I tried starting it by rolling down a hill is it because there’s no spark why the bikes not starting and I’ve ordered a complete wiring loom will that do the job by the way the bike I have is a 110cc semi auto don’t know brand
Hey Abdi!!!!! I will be going thru the wiring on my pit bike as it has been cut and pretty much removed.... I hope it helps U.... Once in a while, a bike has a 12VDC CDI system, in that case, one needs a charged battery in it to run.... Thanks for the info, watching, and commenting!!!!
take your spark plug out of the cylinder head and touch the end of the plug to somewhere metal on bike while you kick start it. you should see the plug spark when you kick start the bike. If not, try ignition coil or stator. Mabey even CDI? a whole new wiring kit is only like $20 if you need it. Good luck man.
Man i am a little confused with the to ground one on the stator and one on the cdi. Which one of these do i hook up on the body of the bike. I made a wiring harness myself and i tested it outside the bike and worked but when i put it all together didn't work then i unscrewed the coil pack and i was getting spark. I connected the ground of the coil pack the ground of the cdi and the ground of the stator all together and also connected it to the body.
I have a 90cc dirt bike and the stator pick up unit was hit and snapped off by the chain and I have a DC plug in and it's really hard to find another one. is it possible that I can cut the wires, get a new stator plate and connect and tape the wires together

Hey Armenvegas!!! I think wiring both coils together may damage the CDI, I do not recommend it.... They have high output cdi boxes that also tweek the timing for better performance and remove the rev limiter, they cost around $20 and I recommend the Casoli version... I have a question about the 2 yellow and white wires. i hook up a multi-meter, set to AC to the wires and get a reading of only around 1 to 3 volts depending on how much i rev it. im sure its not enough power to power any lights but why is this? can i ignore the 2 wires and splice into the coil to get power? or would that interfere with my spark power? please help me out!! much appreciated!!!
Im confused, i have 4 wires coming out of my bike and 4 out of my CDI (excluding killswitch). How can the cdi and ground get a wire if all 4 wires are matching up?
Yes exactly I'm thinking the same thing, I think a multi split ground lead will need to be spliced in to the one and only ground.. Maybe... Bloody cdi I want to hammer mine lol....

Hey Joey, We used to call my older son Joey when he was young and his name sake Grandfather was still alive, now he is just Joe or Joseph.... If the bike will run with the blue/white dangling, I say run it.... Having it run would surprise me as it is normally the trigger to time the CDI/spark to the engine cylinder position... I have a loncin 250 Honda rebel clone with a blue and white wire green and white wire from the pulse generator and black and red wire from the stator how do I wire the cdi 5 wire cdi that looks like this one
So I bought a whole new stator and wiring and the coil spark plug wire new kill switch the whole package deal I hooked it up to my SSR 125 and I’m not getting spark! How come it’s not working the wires are all easy to follow! How come it’s still not getting spark!
Hey Cort, The white wire and the yellow wire would go to a voltage regulator, the black wire from the regulator would be ground, and the (-) side of the battery, the red one would go to the positive, (+), side of the battery... +John D , 3 wires coming out of the engine???? If I recall, the FL250 is a 2cycle engine and normally they spark on every engine rotation, does the spark plug wire come out of the engine or is the coil up on the frame, (I am not familiar with a complete OEM odyssey, the ones I have seen were altered... But, my guess on Ur wires, yellow is to power lights, if one grounds black, that is the off switch, not sure on white, it could be ground, (check it to the case with a DVM)... I would also recommend checking a service manual for where those wires go, given that I am not sure... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

@@HarveySpooner it have 12 volts system , no battery , no lights , no electric start . 4 stroke . The bike wont spark , I suspect the pulse generator is broken or the stator isnt working .
hey guy i wired it up but i cant get a good enough spark to get it to folire over so i ran a wire from the battery to the hot side on the coil it fires up and runs but when the battery dies so does my good spark to keep the engine running can you help me out here
Hey Smoke, Any possibility of getting a video of what U R up to... The coil should only have one lead for input, the primary lead that is powered by the CDI box, if one puts 12volts DC to that, it will only spark when the voltage is removed... Does Ur spark coil have inputs? Maybe U have a 12volt powered ignition system? But, that would mean Ur CDI should be powered by 12V, not the coil... A video would help.... I have a 125cc in a Chinese go kart and I put a brand new stator in it two nights ago and I’m still not getting spark and I’ve changed all the electrical things that come as a pack from Amazon such as CDI and everything else but I eliminated everything so I don’t have to deal with lights wiring and all that so just wires that run the motor and I’m getting power from all wires from the stator except the blue and white one and I don’t know why, anybody know what the problem could be?
I have a couple of Chinese bikes both with electric start, but the I can't find which cable on the rectifier regulator is meant to be supplying charge. Can anyone help? Or does anyone have a wiring diagram. One is a 125cc thumpstar and the other is a 70cc no name bike
Hey Dan, Typically a rectifier has 4 wires on it, the green one is ground, the red one is battery positive 12volts, the other 2 wires, (both yellow or yellow and white), go to the stator, I hope this helps, let me know if U need more info... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

The black /red stripe (power) goes to which wire? The wires I have left are solid blue solid green solid white solid yellow from the stator.

Great videos mate very helpful, I have a ybr 125 engine standing out off the bike and wount spark iv followed the cdi wire up video but still no spark, I don't have the frame to ground. So do all my grounds go to engine casings??, could this cause a perminant off switch condition?? All my parts are new cdi coil etc, stator checks out out with multi meter, iv made shure the black and white off switch wire is not touching any thing cheers from England....
It turns over perfectly using the starter moter aswell, I noticed you don't use a rectifier in the cdi wire up video just stator to cdi, I always thought a regulator had to be used.
Good afternoon I wanted to ask you if I get no power out of blue and white and black and red do I have a timing issue with my atv. My flywheel has a spot for the trigger coil to pick up on but nothing. Do these flywheels go bad or timing

Is there supposed to be like another Cdi or something? Cause there's already one

Hello I have a 2012 SSR, do not think it has stock motor on it(JetMoto on side of it). It ran EXCELLENT as long as I didnt let it sit 4 2 long(3 week or more) then its a bitch 2 start. But this time it wont start, so my plan is 2 replace all wiring(CDI/Ignition Coil/& most important 2 me Voltage Regulator). All these have nice 4 prong connections, do I need a wiring harness or use my own wire & connections
Hey Hunter!!!! Did the bike loose spark??? It seems that some or all 4 pin CDI units use DC power, some use 12volts from the battery, some use rectified AC off the stator.... My lean would be to make sure the battery has a charge on it or if no battery, I would roll it down a hill and pop start it. I would not replace anything quite yet, make sure Ur on and off switch is working properly, all of Ur connections are good and that there are no broken wires, also, if it has the original plug, change it, China plugs are weak at best and absolutely horrible otherwise... What up Harvey, I had my friend pull me all most an 8th mile with his atv 2 pop start but no luck, that was b4 I messaged u. At this point I have the new CDI, & Voltage Regulator. I like my things 2 run good & b well taken care of, so I don't mind getting all new wiring 2 do that. It dose not have a battery, & i haven't put the new parts on yet.When I ordered them I had a delivery date of 11-22-16, but 2 of the 3 parts have arrived, 3rd will b here soon.

Just bought an "sdg" brand 125 pitbike. Has a no spark issue. Ive noticed it only has 2 wires coming from the engine case/stator, a white and a black. Does that seem correct? Which one is which? Stator and pickup coil
Hey Nate, Good luck with Ur SDG bike, I swapped the OEM motor out for a Lifan model, I'm going to have to look at the OEM motor again... If U don't hear from me over the next couple of days, please remind me.... Normally the CDI stator wire is black with a red stripe and the pulse generator wire is blue with a yellow stripe, the green wire is ground.... take ur magneto off and see if u have 2 coils of wired stator coils.then note that the wires comin out are from small coil fpr firing.id say u have only 1 for firing or power and one for the pulse control.u will see the pulse control knob or nub.note wire color.same with other.

What happens when you get a engine off ebay and the stator has the usual wires but the pulser has 5 wires and a green plug to go to the cdi?

Hey Ryan, If U have a solid spark, Ur ignition system is probably good, (the CDI, coil, stator, plug, and harness are all good), I have to ask the next questions, what happened to the bike between when it was running last and now... Was it taken apart, did it sit for some time, did it run out of gas, or did it just plain of stop running???? Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!
IThank you for getting back to me, from watching your videos I really gained some great insight into home repairs on my bike,Now the thing I did do the day/morning of my engine fail was change my air filter from the Dual layered foam type to a small Mesh or metal wire type cone shape. Both filters are $5 eBay entry-level ones after making that swap I rode approximately 2 hours before having trouble while coming down the hill from my favorite ride spot and my bike started to sputter and then completely died seeing as I was on a downhill I continually tried roll starting which normally I'm very good at and nothing the bike would attempt to turn over I could hear it making that trying to start noise. You know the one. Not to mention great compression and fat blue Spark. Even so first thing I tried was new NGK spark plug and seeing as my carburetor was the type you cannot remove the float Bowl I decided to upgrade to the Mikuni vm22 but still no start.
Will this work for 250cc kick start engine. It has a solid red, red with white stripe, black with red, and green what goes to what. PLEASE HELP
I bought a new lifan 150cc kickstart engine installed it today and it’s not turning it compression is good Changed the spark plug has a brand new carb bought a new wiring harness hooked it all up and fuel is clean but it’s not turning on please help I’m clueless on what it could be anythinnng I should do or check PLEASE HELP

Been finding out these CDI's only work on Hondas and china bikes. Tried a Polaris and a Suzuki LT400 and they burn out. The lt400 would only last one ride and burn out. My figure is the pick up coils output is to high.
+william staten , Good info! I'm planning on smashing the 12Volt version CDI into a 2 cylinder opposed golf cart with a double secondary ignition coil to fire both spark plugs. I wonder if the pulse generator on the Robin engine would kill the CDI box.... About Ur problem, I would find out what the resistance of the Polaris and Suzuki pulse generators are and add a series resistor to get to the 30 Ohm value that most Honda pulse generators are, if the series resistance is higher than 30 Ohms, I would go with a parallel resistor across the pulse generator... Honda Pulse generators cost about $18 on eBay, China clones go for about $10... I hope this helps... Thanks for all the good info, watching, and commenting!!!

Hey Abdi!!!!! I will be going thru the wiring on my pit bike as it has been cut and pretty much removed.... I hope it helps U.... Once in a while, a bike has a 12VDC CDI system, in that case, one needs a charged battery in it to run.... Thanks for the info, watching, and commenting!!!!
take your spark plug out of the cylinder head and touch the end of the plug to somewhere metal on bike while you kick start it. you should see the plug spark when you kick start the bike. If not, try ignition coil or stator. Mabey even CDI? a whole new wiring kit is only like $20 if you need it. Good luck man.
Man i am a little confused with the to ground one on the stator and one on the cdi. Which one of these do i hook up on the body of the bike. I made a wiring harness myself and i tested it outside the bike and worked but when i put it all together didn't work then i unscrewed the coil pack and i was getting spark. I connected the ground of the coil pack the ground of the cdi and the ground of the stator all together and also connected it to the body.
I have a 90cc dirt bike and the stator pick up unit was hit and snapped off by the chain and I have a DC plug in and it's really hard to find another one. is it possible that I can cut the wires, get a new stator plate and connect and tape the wires together

Hey Armenvegas!!! I think wiring both coils together may damage the CDI, I do not recommend it.... They have high output cdi boxes that also tweek the timing for better performance and remove the rev limiter, they cost around $20 and I recommend the Casoli version... I have a question about the 2 yellow and white wires. i hook up a multi-meter, set to AC to the wires and get a reading of only around 1 to 3 volts depending on how much i rev it. im sure its not enough power to power any lights but why is this? can i ignore the 2 wires and splice into the coil to get power? or would that interfere with my spark power? please help me out!! much appreciated!!!

Yes exactly I'm thinking the same thing, I think a multi split ground lead will need to be spliced in to the one and only ground.. Maybe... Bloody cdi I want to hammer mine lol....

Hey Joey, We used to call my older son Joey when he was young and his name sake Grandfather was still alive, now he is just Joe or Joseph.... If the bike will run with the blue/white dangling, I say run it.... Having it run would surprise me as it is normally the trigger to time the CDI/spark to the engine cylinder position... Hey Cort, The white wire and the yellow wire would go to a voltage regulator, the black wire from the regulator would be ground, and the (-) side of the battery, the red one would go to the positive, (+), side of the battery... If I recall, the FL250 is a 2cycle engine and normally they spark on every engine rotation, does the spark plug wire come out of the engine or is the coil up on the frame, (I am not familiar with a complete OEM odyssey, the ones I have seen were altered... But, my guess on Ur wires, yellow is to power lights, if one grounds black, that is the off switch, not sure on white, it could be ground, (check it to the case with a DVM)... I would also recommend checking a service manual for where those wires go, given that I am not sure... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

@@HarveySpooner it have 12 volts system , no battery , no lights , no electric start . 4 stroke . The bike wont spark , I suspect the pulse generator is broken or the stator isnt working .
hey guy i wired it up but i cant get a good enough spark to get it to folire over so i ran a wire from the battery to the hot side on the coil it fires up and runs but when the battery dies so does my good spark to keep the engine running can you help me out here
Hey Smoke, Any possibility of getting a video of what U R up to... The coil should only have one lead for input, the primary lead that is powered by the CDI box, if one puts 12volts DC to that, it will only spark when the voltage is removed... Does Ur spark coil have inputs? Maybe U have a 12volt powered ignition system? But, that would mean Ur CDI should be powered by 12V, not the coil... A video would help.... I have a 125cc in a Chinese go kart and I put a brand new stator in it two nights ago and I’m still not getting spark and I’ve changed all the electrical things that come as a pack from Amazon such as CDI and everything else but I eliminated everything so I don’t have to deal with lights wiring and all that so just wires that run the motor and I’m getting power from all wires from the stator except the blue and white one and I don’t know why, anybody know what the problem could be?
I have a couple of Chinese bikes both with electric start, but the I can't find which cable on the rectifier regulator is meant to be supplying charge. Can anyone help? Or does anyone have a wiring diagram. One is a 125cc thumpstar and the other is a 70cc no name bike
Hey Dan, Typically a rectifier has 4 wires on it, the green one is ground, the red one is battery positive 12volts, the other 2 wires, (both yellow or yellow and white), go to the stator, I hope this helps, let me know if U need more info... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!
