Gone 47 years for no good reason. Many groups, not just The Supremes, have creative differences. Florence Ballard should have continued work with The Supremes; while in talks with other industry people. She may have landed a record deal, or even a potential Academy Award performance in a film. You don't start sabotaging the group, missing rehearsals, being too drunk to take the stage. She threw it away. Next chapter? Eight years of depression, alcoholism and poverty. I'll never forget the pretty singer from my childhood, no makeup, hooded coat, standing in front of her boarded-uo home. She appeared on the cover of Jet Magazine in 1974. Strangely, even still, she had no clue of how she arrived at that point.

@@aarondigby5054 Sure, she felt that her role was diminished. The nice one-liners she did made producers want her for films, her and Mary's solo spots had changed. It was time for re-evaluation. That was an impression... in fact Florence was a depressive and was at once apparently confident yet not street wise but innocent although a rape victim.
Looking at this video @9:34, Mary and Flo are nicely commenting with one another on the music on the lip-sync performance. Diana seems to be with her own thoughts --- seating silently.
@@aarondigby5054 She really is. I remember when Mary passed, Dionne Warwick spoke about her and them being friends while she was in the Supremes. She said, respectfully that Diana was a different type of woman. As she stayed to herself and didn't mingle or have many friends.
@@I-AM-BELIEVER lol that's SO funny to me. And when Diana Ross's name came up in conversation, Whitney said that Dionne Warwick could not STAND Diana Ross. She said that just the mention of Ross's name and Dionne would go OFF! @@ilovebeinggay6794 I honestly don’t think Whitney cared for Diana in the beginning either. She didn’t start to gain more respect for her, until much later in her career. Diana shaded her quite a bit. Calling her singing and look, cute.
@@I-AM-BELIEVER No I truly believe Whitney liked her. She said when she met Ross as a child, she was just in total awe of her and nervous: "yes Ms Ross, no ma'am Ms Ross". Yes, yet their boss Gordy was a lover of Ross and pushed Diane's career over Flo & Mary's.Flo knew this and resented it leading to the destructive tension that lead to her exit in 67
When Diana sings its pure magic. This show had to be so boring for them LOL. Especially the part when those girls were lip syncing their songs. Geez, teenagers looked old then, too LOL. Not to mention they had to hold those flowers the whole time. Does anyone notice how Flo kept looking at Diana? It seems maybe she was looking to take cues from her or maybe it was something else. Lol. She wasn't looking at Diane Ernestine. Start here 9:00 and it looks as if Florence is looking at whatever Diane Ernestine turned her head to look at.
How could she not be. She was the group’s original lead singer. Diana changed all that by sleeping with the boss. Seems to me Diana had solo ambitions all along, and she saw Flo as a constant threat. Flo was tall, elegant, beautiful, and she sang beautifully too. Now imagine if she also began sleeping with the boss. If she was that type of girl she would have probably prevailed. It was the 1960s, and black men never back then preferred pretty light skinned black girls. Diana made sure that would never happen. She and Gordy bullied Flo into depression. Flo evidently wasn’t a strong person. She took it to heart and began to let herself go. As wealthy and successful as Diana Ross is now, I’m sure she must have some regrets about things she did back then.
Berry didnt have as much vested in the Marvelettes as he did with the Supremes. Long story short, I dont think he cared. But being that the Marvelettes did give Motown their first number one song he probably would have been more vested in them if the Supremes had stayed the NO HIT Supremes. Lol

If Florence Ballard felt her role was minimized, such as, stage banter, solos or comedic quips removed from shows, tell the producers and Gordy about it. Then, she should have continued her work with The Supremes. Start talking to industry people about record deals. That would have been smart.
