What are YOUR thoughts on the 7950X? Did you expect MORE or LESS? 🤔🤔🤔

Intel have been requiring people to buy new motherboards with each new CPU release on a yearly basis and nobody cared. AMD changing to a new platform after 5 years and people lose their minds.

AMD has been doing that for long time it's one of the big reason I stay with them, I'm not gonna drop $600-1000 everytime intel releases a new CPU its foolish to do so.

Honestly it's why I went for AMD this time.
Before my pc was a gaming rig, but now it's a workstation, I'd rather be able to upgrade more often because time is money.

I agree with you as I just upgraded my PC from a Intel I9-9900k to the ryzen 9 7950x and I can say I paid less for the AMD CPU then my Intel chip and even the memory at the time I bought my Intel system 16 GB of DD4 cost me $280 Canadian and this time it was $219 for 32gb so I wish You-tubers STOP complaining about money as not everyone updates their PC on a yearly bases as starting to be very boring mind you I admit the cost of motherboards went up so the savings I made in the CPU and Memory went into the Motherboard as when I bought mine for the i9 it was $450 Canadian but my new board for AMD was $640 mind you I could of went with a cheaper board but that is my choice and YES if you built your PC in early 2019 or late 2018 both AMD and Intel you have to upgrade everything so why not go to DDR5 for today's standard

In my opinion, the r9 7950x is the better option and beats the 7950x3d in some titles/scenarios. The 7950x will age well as new technologies will be released that take advantage of the 16 cores, The 7950x is much better than the i9 13900k, even with lower benchmark scores because of it. I'm getting a r23 Cinebench score of 40k easily with an all core off set of -0.030v.This greatly reduce power consumptions and temperatures. To beat that score a 13900k must draw close to 300watt.

    • @OptimizingNetwork

I am gonna stop you on that thinking. I just returned 7950x, and I already had 13900k when I bought 7950x. It is not what you think it is.
7950x completely stumbles in gaming even with RTX 4080, let alone RTX 4090. GPU utilization is minus 20%-25% compared to 13900k. So, you will have worse lows and not as high highs, and lower averages in terms of FPS.
About 20% lower single thread performance compared to 13900k will also show in snappiness of Windows 11
Also, I was getting heavy stutters in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Insurgency Sandstorm with 7950x.
      Almost none on 13900k.
7950x is a great workstation CPU, not gaming, and no it won't age as well as 13900k, 7950x3D can decimate 7950x, but offset of core frequencies causes stutter between certain game transitions. You can see it in multiple benchmarks on many channels. Watch for any hitching in action of the game, it's there, even with current Agesa Firmware updates.
In some games 12900k still beats out 7950x.
I bought 7950x because I was thinking that I can completely remove any stutter with that CPU, and I was greeted with tons of issues.
Frame to frame latency is greater on R9 7950X compared to 13900k/14900k.
Future AMD AM5 (non-cache versions) will likely beat 14900k, but that is in the future. 7950x is not a 1080p CPU, unless you buy GPU below 4080 level

If you make money from your computer's rendering capacity, the 7950x is worth the hassle, but as someone who does make money from his computer, I went with the 7900x because I don't like water cooled CPU, it just doesn't seem like something that is designed to last and I judge that based on my experiences with inline pumps from non-computer situations, and last thing I want is the highest wattage CPU to be without heat dissipation. The 7900x heat throttles on the best CPU coolers like NH-U9A or D15, so there really isn't a reason to go above 7900x in my opinion unless you need those extra cores to really make you money faster with your process.
Air cooled 7900x is going to last me 10 years easily, and it only cost $300 to upgrade from my AM4 build after I sold all the AM4 components on Ebay. Worth the upgrade for sure.

  • @choppergirl
    @choppergirl ปีที่แล้ว

I really love my 7950x. Set the quick n easy overclocking profile in the bios to the easy setting to run at 80C/Level 1, and it runs cool like a dream. That's all you have to do, change one setting in BIOS. No overheating problems whatsoever. I run a Corsair H150i 360mm AIO RAD on mine and recommend it. You want a big beefy radiator.
Windows 10 and my video editing software isn't the greatest though at spreading loads across all cores, and, UEFI bios looks pretty but kinnda of swxs for it's complexity, and DDR5 ain't all that it's cracked up to be from a price/performance perspective.
(Level 1 = Negative 10 undervolt of the Curve on all cores, if you want to tinker and squeeze more out, try and push it manually up by ones if you can get up to Negative 15 undervolt). You can get it up from a typical 5.3 megahertz to 5.4 megahertz and still be at 80C tops. I'm running mine at Negative 12 undervolt the curve on all cores... Negative 15 would do random crashes. Others have done Negative 15... it all comes down to the silicon lottery and random chance of what you get out the fab.
I don't recommend trying Level 2, 3, 4, or 5... (Negative 20,30,40, 50 undervolt on the CPU power Curve respectively) as those are probably meant for other CPUs in their lineup. You won't hurt your processor, but it just will crash or not post or be unstable. If you can run Level 2 stably forever with no crashes, then you must of hit some lottery jackpot.

You pay for more expensive CPU, you pay for more expensive board. So where it is a deal? I mean what differance if you pay more now for future upgrade only CPU, or pay now less and pay more in future for additional new motherboard for new cpu? I dont see value if you must now pay more for this.

In Canada, the DDR5 motherboards are in the same price range and even cheaper on the side of AMD sometimes (for example the highest Asus Rog Strix X670 model vs the Z790 one)
The 13th gen is the last generation compatible with Z790.
The rams are in the same price range.
The difference between CPUs are 100$
It cost me 60$ more to go with AMD.
I am saving at least 500 canadian $ (for a decent mobo) down the line and I know that I will buy another CPU by 2025.

    @h1tzzYT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

After owning 5950x im done with amd's high gaming temps. Im one of those "air cooler or nothing" guys and zen 2,3 and 4 suffers greatly from high temps in gaming workloads especially with air coolers. Sure the performance is awesome and im going to keep my 5950x for a long time, but if you are going to run stock high end cpu do not get zen 4, its going to be a nightmare dealing with your cpu fan noise and fan curves. And before anyone pops out with arguments like "but you can undervolt it with curve optimizer" well kinda, but it takes a lot of time to dial actual stable undervolt and in some cases you will actually increase your cpu temps, it has to do with your cpu best cores and whether you undervolt them or not. With intel its alot simpler it will run cool in gaming and hot in all core workloads, but you can set power limits to 200-250W for all core and it will be much better temp wise and very minimal all core performance penalty.
So overall i think that too many reviewers ignore big part of temp testing methodology. With such aggressive cpu boosting algo's these days reviewers needs to start testing low load scenarios and high load scenarios because it can have massive impact on day2day use.

    Stop begging for likes.
I don't care if you've paid out of pocket.

@@s.m.g.2166 You are right to some extent, but close to no one is going to like, subscribe or have any sympathy towards me, just because of me stating I pay for the stuff out of my own pocket.
Also neither should nor will anyone feel guilty about it.
Anyway, merry Christmas and a happy new year to you! :)
