something took over Pete during this performance. you can see it in his eyes. some powerful feeling that came over him that evening. he's never played the song quite like this ever before. such an incredible version.
Here we are in 2014 and this song was released in 1982, 32 years ago, and the lyrics and the social commentary in this song are still completely relevant today. That's some trick. Pete is the king of rock. When he dies the jig's up, it's all over, we might as well go home and stick to watching clips on youtube coz there's no fucker out there good enough to carry his torch.
Gid is 100% correct here.....who currently in music has the imagination, the brain power, and the writing and music ability to come even close to what Pete has accomplished, the power of this kind of music? Where's the anger? the atititude? It's all a pose after The Who.
***** This only shows my theory. Pete is much cleaner today. No Drugs! His talent is evident! But there are others out there. I would love to see Tina S. do this riff-et! First saw her at 14 years old. What an incredible guitar player! But its not just guys like Mr. Peter! Its the actual tunes themselves. I have for the most part lost track of modern music and prefer the classical tunes.... GOD, I SOUND LIKE MY PARENTS! Are we all that old now? They talked of Mozart and Bach.... we talk of The Who, Deep Purple and Led Zep.
The most underrated rock n roll guitarist of all time. Its a damn shame that so few noticed. The object is not to play fast. Its to play the right notes at the right moment in the song. Nothing is ever wasted.
Pete is really working it out during this version, lots of raw emotion. He and Roger are two of the best front men ever. He doesn't even need to do the windmill!
We were third row for the second time... The first time they played 20 seconds of "I Can't Explain" and were forced to cancel due to Roger's bronchitis. I had brought my guitar and played every WHO song I knew in the parking lot. A dream gig... Everyone was there to hear WHO music and I was the only one playing. They came back two weeks later and killed it. This is the proof.
The music has never been the same, this time in music with all these bands was insane. Great bands and great music. This stuff is to cherish, the music of today is no where the same.
Tampa is a special place for Pete. He wrote “The Seeker” there, and this is the first time he played after his legal troubles from a few years before. I think he exorcised some of that this night.
Admirable the way they keep the tempo on this fantastic song the same from version to version/performance to performance and never get it too fast or rush it.
These are true artists, they give their lives to the art they believe in,great bands like The Who is one of them.God bless them,no matter what, they still Rock!!!.
The great thing about this version is they turned up Pete's guitar volume and made it the focal point of the performance while everything else takes a back seat, even including the keyboards which is the driving force of the song.👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻
I've literally never heard a better version than this. this is incredible. takes the tone of the original and turns it into one gigantic fuck you guitar solo. if there's a better version than this, it doesn't exist on video...
cmz8706 Sound is too uneven and choppy--the overly loud guitar drowns out the other instruments--for me, but that's just my opinion.......still my all time favorite song by them
Eminence Front, is one of those songs the Who did in their careers, that's just unforgettable. Pete Townshend's truly the god of rock and a terrific performer!
I think I'm right that most of us here know that this concert would have taken place around 10 days earlier if Roger was up to singing, but such a great concert and worth the trip from Barrie Ontario!!
que buen grupo en verdad y q época la mejor x siempre no existía el celular pero de ahí en fuera la mejor época the who quadrophenia film de los mejores
Strat's are beautifull with neck that colour. Pete is such a chopper rocker that i'm amazed when he plays intricately it's a fun realisation that happens when i take the time to have it fantastic footage like this help's too
Well, they *were* playing in Tampa during Spring Break so I bet there were a lot of students in the crowd. Pete, ever aware of his audience, 'personalized' the lyrics a bit. Rather clever!
I agree this by far is the best work of music for the who band, and yes Pete is one hell of a guitarist.......I just wonder what David Gilmore could of added to this I mean Gilmore another great UK rocker put his style of work on Townshends Give Blood tune which in my oppinion is another great piece of work from Legendary Townshend, But none the less this is great! Thanks for a cool tune posting.
Just saw the Killers this weekend. Was surprised to see them take the stage to the instrumental into of Eminence Front. I'm glad they didn't attempt to cover it.
That's a really good point. Pete often said that John played lead; without him Pete has to take up the slack. I do miss John's brilliant syncopated playing on this song though. I suspect he very consciously worked against the drum machine and 'march' beat of the percussion to create the tension that made the original of this song so much more powerful. Can only imagine what it would sound like with both of them going full blast now. :o(
Christ, Pete's on fire here...."the fucking hair thins!"..........playing like a man posessed by rock n' roll! All respect to the brain of the Who.
One of the best guitarists of all time... totally underrated
something took over Pete during this performance. you can see it in his eyes.
some powerful feeling that came over him that evening.
he's never played the song quite like this ever before. such an incredible version.
cmz8706 It was even better last night in Tampa!
prove it!
cmz8706 Maybe he had the Pick of Destiny that night.
+Jorel032777 it's just amazing.
he took the feeling of the original song and just turned it into one big fuck you guitar solo.
awesome.
He's in Tampa...lots of "Eminence Front" going on in that area :-P
THE BIG WHEEL SPINS THE FUCKIN' HAIR THINS
timeless. utterly timeless. I'm talking about Pete *and* the song.
one of the best versions of this classic track
this guy is the by, far one of the best guitar plaukers I've ever seen. shits amazing. go Pete!!!!
oh yea, who?
This more than jamming, this is the closest man can get to perfection...

Thats a fact bro´
Bang on! but there is hope!.Just watch the X Factor. Ha! Ha! Ha!. Cheers!. Pete is Mighty!.
Gid is 100% correct here.....who currently in music has the imagination, the brain power, and the writing and music ability to come even close to what Pete has accomplished, the power of this kind of music? Where's the anger? the atititude? It's all a pose after The Who.
***** Oh Yes He makes John Mayer look like a Turd

completely shredding the guitar here, the camera man just couldn't get enough of it.
Always loved this song- Townshend is a genius.
It does not matter what generation you are from, I think we can all agree that this is one of the greatest Rock Songs of all time.
Damn, Pete only got better with age!! I actually think this is the best guitar riff of this song Pete has ever played!!
+Snuffy Smif Agreed! Pete brought his "A" game for this one!
The most underrated rock n roll guitarist of all time. Its a damn shame that so few noticed. The object is not to play fast. Its to play the right notes at the right moment in the song. Nothing is ever wasted.
David: You got that right!!
David Kopel of course!
Pete takes the edge off getting old, I hope I'm half that vital when I'm that age.
Amen, brother.
greatest group ever. 100% pure musical genius. end of story.
Pete is really working it out during this version, lots of raw emotion. He and Roger are two of the best front men ever. He doesn't even need to do the windmill!
Pete never plays half ass. LOL All out always .
Thanks to my Guitar teacher i finaly know Pete Townshead, and im only 20 Jears old.
Hes realy a rythm god....
Best performance of this song I've seen. love the gold strat. Pete's on fire!!!
Pete's singing cadence, and head movements after "drinks flow" is magic. You can't teach that.

Pete is absolutely slaying on this song. He was ALWAYS a very good guitarist (listen to Quadrophenia) and here is positively volcanic.
The music has never been the same, this time in music with all these bands was insane. Great bands and great music. This stuff is to cherish, the music of today is no where the same.
I'm watching this again in 2024, and I still can't get enough of Townsend. The best....
Best performance of song right here.
WOW. Thanks for sharing. Forgot how good Pete is on the guitar.
That old man, P. Townsend can still Fu*kin play!
And to think he is almost deaf now. WOW!
Tampa is a special place for Pete. He wrote “The Seeker” there, and this is the first time he played after his legal troubles from a few years before. I think he exorcised some of that this night.
My favorite version of the song :)
Admirable the way they keep the tempo on this fantastic song the same from version to version/performance to performance and never get it too fast or rush it.
it's cause it's on a click for the keyboards. i think this may be what u were getting at. : )
These are true artists, they give their lives to the art they believe in,great bands like The Who is one of them.God bless them,no matter what, they still Rock!!!.
Townshend isa guitar legend. This is gotta be his favorite song
Lots of TH-cam videos of The Who performing this song. This one's the best.
You gotta love this song!
This is my favorite track of theirs. Was privileged to hear it live at Glastonbury 2015. Good times.
The great thing about this version is they turned up Pete's guitar volume and made it the focal point of the performance while everything else takes a back seat, even including the keyboards which is the driving force of the song.👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻
Best version of this song. Incredible!
met a girl at that concert 3 years later we got married, now we have 2 kids and we could not be happier :)
God forbid, but I can see Pete, Page, Hendrix, Vaughn, Richards and Slash jammin in the sky one day. Classic.
okay, lets not rush it.
Try Hell! Sold their souls for rock n roll
Great fuckin' performance. Just fantastic! Great job! This is how you play a damn electric guitar.
While this isn't the greatest version of the song I've ever heard, there's no doubt Pete is bringing it on the guitar here
Totally agree. Starting at 1:20, I do believe he has the best intro guitar that I've heard him perform.
I've literally never heard a better version than this. this is incredible.
takes the tone of the original and turns it into one gigantic fuck you guitar solo.
if there's a better version than this, it doesn't exist on video...
cmz8706 The strat is different but the tone and harmonics are just amazing. Agree best version ever
cmz8706 Sound is too uneven and choppy--the overly loud guitar drowns out the other instruments--for me, but that's just my opinion.......still my all time favorite song by them
This beat is RELENTLESS
You watch Pete playing and he's HAPPY, you can see the joy he's feeling !!
Pete's amazing!
One of my favorite Who songs without a doubt....

I think I'm right that most of us here know that this concert would have taken place around 10 days earlier if Roger was up to singing, but such a great concert and worth the trip from Barrie Ontario!!

God Bless Pete. Tears that shit up!!

After all those years the show still isn't complete without Roger "playing" this song.

at 1:18 when he does his solo I almost start to cry every time
Eminence Front, certainly remains my favourite Who song, not least for Pete's awesome guitar work!
Just saw the Killers this weekend. Was surprised to see them take the stage to the instrumental into of Eminence Front. I'm glad they didn't attempt to cover it.
