I just bought the pillow and mattress encasements at Walmart. I also washed all bedding in hot water and vacuumed the mattress and carpets under the bed thoroughly. I also purchased an air filter for my bedroom. I feel so exhausted, lol 😆, but after getting a positive dust mite allergy test, I'm doing my best to feel better. I've been suffering for years. Nasal congestion and coughing, fluid in my ears, and purple rings under my eyes in the morning are severe. I'm ready to sleep in a tent out back 😂
I am severely allergic to dust mites. I've gotten 19 allergy shots so far and the injection site swells up to an Eisenhower Half dollar size. I am spending a vacation in New Jersey for two weeks, and the mattress in the bedroom I sleep in has no allergy proofing. I've sneezed on average about 15 to 25 times per night! Not fun at all. Dust mites tend to be worse in the summer, especially when it is hot and humid outside.
I would say to steam the mattress with a steamer on a sunny day and vacuum it after leaving it alone for an hour. That does help me a lot. Getting some antihistamine tablets will help a lot too.
Have you tried to boost your immune system. That’s what I’m trying to do so I can fight my allergens. We are surrounded by too many allergens, It is impossible to defeat them in poor health.
I washed towels, beddings, pillow and bed cases weekly. And air pillows in the sun, constantly. Today I bought a dust mite vacuum. What I don't have is allergen covers..
What gives me success is to steam the mattress then leave it for 30 to 45 minutes and aggressively vacuum the mattress. The thinking is that a touch of 100 degrees steam, kills the dust mites on contact, doing so reducing their numbers.
And if my carpet hasn't been cleaned by professionals in four years would it help? And wash all bedding in hot water with half cup of bleach by weekly???? Expensive water bill!
