  • On site of a dark age Pictish fort on the shores of Loch Ness, is a ruined castle with the remains a 5 storey medieval tower. It was the site of many battles and captured by Edward Longshanks, Robert de Bruce, and the site of a great raid by the Macdondalds. Join us and we explore the castle of Urquhart.

I knew my family was part of the Urquhart clan, but I never knew we had a family castle until my grandmother told me today lol. I hope to visit Scotland when the pandemic is under control, so that I can visit the castle and my extended family.

This is not actually the Castle of Clan Urquhart. This castle is owned by Historic Scotland. The real castle of The Chief of Clan Urquhart is Castle Craig on the Black Isle.

This is a nice documentary and I enjoyed it, however it's joining an ever growing number of youtube clips that mistitle themselves as walk-throughs. In a true walk through, there is no cutting of scenes, it's a straight film of the walk through every step, every turn, and every approach, no cutting from scene to scene for the sake of brevity.
I prefer the true walk-throughs, for two reasons: one, they are relaxing, and give a better sense of the tourist experience (other people prefer brevity, and probably that's what the majority of folks are accustomed to, so I understand the choice made).
The second reason is more eccentric and obscure: I'm looking for workable videos to watch repeatedly and design a memory palace. And for that one needs a true sense of the space, the turnings, the routes taken. Cutting steps out destroys that sense a bit. (Don't use this second reason as a reason to change, there aren't many of us doing the whole inner-world memory palace thing and we are definitely NOT your target audience, I know. Just putting it out there as a little factoid).
Keep it up, you're doing excellent work, it's just the use of the word "walk-through" that makes me twitch given that I'm in the purist camp, if camps can be said to exist for the meaning of that word in youtube-land. :-)

the name Comyn isn't pronounced ''co-min'. It is pronounced more as 'cummin', similar to the anglicized Cummin, or Cummins.
To pronounce it like co-mins, would be askin tyo pronouncing Mata Hari as Met a hairy.

Why the fuck were they going around destroying all these gorgeous structures back then? I hate video games, but maybe if these eedjits had had something else to funnel their rage into, we might still have these incredible castles 1000's of years later.
