I always find Taehyung's song super hard when first listened to them. Like it's hard to remake his vocals and emotions on every song especially on this, he's the only one who can give that to me. It's very raw and different. Oh! i can't explain it really well 😂
I believe that music has many meanings, just like a painting or a photograph. There is the meaning that the author gives it and the meaning that the person who sees or listens to it gives. We don't know what it means or what V wanted to imply with this song, but what I feel when I listen to this song is like I'm apologizing for all the damage I do or have done to myself, when you realize you're wrong and you need to accept it to get over it, but it's hard because it hurts. At least it's MY interpretation, everyone is free to think how they want and how they feel. Thanks again for your reaction, remind me of the first time I heard this masterpiece.

I love all the bts members but Taehyung was specifically my Bias along with Rm. I really love his deep soulful voice. He sang so emotionally. The lyrics are relatively vague so people with different life experiences will interpret the song differently. At the end of the day there is no “real” meaning to the song. We may never know what message Taehyung was intending to convey or what he was thinking when he wrote it.
When RM was discussing the song, during an album breakdown, he said that he couldn’t explain what was behind the song as Taehyung wrote about something personal to him and it was something if Tae wanted to explain, he would himself, that it wasn’t up to RM to reveal the meaning behind the song.
The most popular theories though:
1. he wrote this about his siblings. He wasn’t there as they grew up, like he should've been as an older brother, so they don't have the strongest bond. correct me if i'm wrong armys but i think his brother stopped talking to him after he released this song
2. it can also be about youth questioning themselves, sexuality wise
3. HYYH storyline. Tae has some sort of terrible secret that’s wearing on his heart: it’s cutting him like “broken glass” and is hurting other people. the song is an admission of guilt and weakness; the word Stigma literally meaning an admission of guilt or shame. so, what is Tae ashamed of? well, for one thing, in the HYYH storyline, Tae kills his abusive father
I saw an interview of V explaining "Stigma"., He said, he wrote that song dedicated to his Grandmother who died when he was having a concert in the Philippines. That he was "sorry" to his family, to his brother and sister for leaving his ill Grandmother because work comes first. He was sorry and guilty that he was not there when he was needed most. The concert in the Philippines was booked ahead of his Grandmother's illness. It was his Grandmother who raised half of his life before he joined BTS. It pains him a lot the loss of a person who loved him so much. The song is so hurting that even during Bts filming abroad that sometimes, he just burst to cry because he missed her Grandmother a lot. Even in the song Winter bear, there's a part in the MV where V is eating with two plates on the table. The one plate is for her Grandmother. He really loves her dearly.

Honestly, he blown me away with his interpretation of STIGMA! He really have an exceptionally and unique vocals. Wow! Only Kim Taehyung has that high pitch and he went even more higher. The word stigma means a mark of shame or disgrace, so for the starter what is Tae ashamed of? Well in the HYYH storyline, as you've seen in I need you MV, he stabs his abusive father to death when he was hitting his sister.
Regarding the connection of this with taehyung's personal life, Rm in his wings behind story said that V have his own story behind this song and each part of this song has a deep meaning!
Everything aside. this was tae's first solo song and he immaculately killed it! One of my top fav solos by BTS members~~

it's about how Tae wasn’t there for his siblings as they were growing up, like he felt he should be, as an older brother & because of him, they suffer a lot of crap on or off social media during the early Bangtan years.
(Or) according to BU, he has an abusive father & wanted to protect his sister in the story.
RM even mentioned in Vlive album breakdown,

Well if u remember V and his sister was abused by their father and the lyrics of the verse that sings "Please punish me instead Please forgive me for my sins.” That's when V couldn't stand seeing her sister hurt again, and if you remember, V took a bottle of liquor that Dad regularly drank and stabbed in his stomach. Until his father's death, V's short film has a large cage locked him in and he shows panic and fear that it shows that V doesn't want to be held captive and wants to leave.

Obviously the song have relation wirh V's story in BU, but Namjoon (i believe was him) told us that the song has a more secret personal meaning for Taehyung, since that moment people and many Armys start guessing what was that personal meaning, so, for the "sorry for my sins" theme of the song they started thinking in that is maybe a confession of Taehyung being LGBT. Some theories made a lot of sense along with others "hints" that him "gave", but its better, and i mean this for those "Armys", stop just looking for the meaning, if didnt told us we dont have to making an investigation abt his PRIVATE life, space, plz.
