personally this is what i would do if i were in your situation: before this month ends, pay back your variable expenses that you charge to your credit card. then whatever money you have left, throw it in the cash savings. so that when you start on february, you’ll start fresh and will only be budgeting using the money from your paycheck. it’s much less confusing this way
I do think paying off the variable expenses at month end makes more sense than what I’m doing now! I think I worry that I’ll somehow need the cash out of nowhere- probably old money insecurity- but if I have a good emergency fund that shouldn’t be a concern!
