It's also helpful to get yourself in a habit of checking your planner/ calendar at the same time every day. for me, it's right before bed. I put my PJs on, open my planner and then write out my to-do list for the next day on my white board. by making it part of my bedtime routine, I seldom forget to do it.
I tend to not remember to remember things. So I usually relocate my wristwatch from one wrist to another or turn it around so it faces inwards. Or I move my ring from one finger to another. Then, I get increasingly uncomfortable during the day, and when I go to fix this, I remember that I need to do something. Unfortunately, it's been about a year since I started doing this, and I've noticed that sometimes, I'll completely forget the reason why I relocated these things. Like, I'll look at my watch and start wondering what it is I should have done. So it's not a foolproof system. But it works 90% of the time.
Bullet Journaling has been AWESOME for me. I started less than a year ago but it's so true that writing something down and having a concise place to put EVERYTHING helps so much. I still use digital calendar apps (especially shared ones with my husband) but we have a whiteboard calendar in the center of our home too. Making sure any appointments or events are on all these places means we can check our schedule wherever we are and things are much more likely to get done.
So I have just found this channel. What I find totally amusing is a lot of the things I already know how to do. I was taking public transportation from the age of like 12 because we learned to do it at the school for the blind, I know how to cook on a stove top, I know how to bake in an oven, but I’ve never used a crockpot. I seriously am probably gonna just sit and listen to everything you guys have on herebecause
Me just now: -Goes to backpack to get notebook to write something in it -takes out notebook, remembers I need a pencil -goes back to chair with pencils -left notebook by backpack I quit today.
Thank you for reminding me there was burned tangerine skin in the oven that I needed to remove before turning on the oven again. I paused the video because you said I wouldn't remember later.
During lectures - Teacher : " blah blah blah" Me: Oh that's what I need to write down. *Grabs the pen * *Opens the notebook* *Starts to write * *Writes 3 words and forgot the rest* I quit! *sobs*
Regarding tools: the best tool for this is always whatever is easiest, whatever you’ll be most likely to use reliably, and whatever you trust most. If you’re going to offload your brain’s work, it needs to be in a place you trust implicitly and fully.
Well yesterday I went to my first day alone teaching a science program to kindergarteners and realised I had forgotten all of my supplies so I think I might need this video
I mean I grew up in a pretty broken home, not violent or anything but I'm missing a lot of life skills, I actually really appreciate this channel. Thanks man.
when you're already starting out with cookies why not mention timers? my oven can beep after a certain time I set but if it wasn't the case my cellphone does this hob as well
At work i never have a pen on me and i'm always moving but every 3 days when i'm 1/4 of the way through a certain task i have to go to one end of the building and flip a switch. I ALWAYS forget until this week, i tucked a napkin in my knee pad so when i kneel down i see it sticking out and remember when it's time to flick the switch!
I try to use the “do it now method” for tasks like starting the laundry or putting something away. The way it works is if I am thinking about it and it won’t make me late for something else I just stop and do the task right away this way there is less to remember. I also try to write down to do lists and set reminders in my phone. After seeing this video I think I might try the google calendar thing.
Somethings to note ,you will remember things better in a sequence as each item will let you remrmber the next thing. I believe this is why you can remember more complex things more than simple things but people are like 'you should know' but it's just something that hasn't stuck in your head.
Thanks, this is really important! I have a Google assistant reminder that tells me to lock the door when I get home (thanks How to ADHD community for the tip)
In first year of college, our professor forced us to buy a small journal to write reminders or to-dos. I'm in my last year now and I must say these journals are really helpful.
I quite often leave a random (or sometimes relevant) object someplace obvious, to remind myself to do something without the effort of a note. E.g. throwing a sock over to the door to remind myself to do something before going out. (Probably only practical for single-folks-without pets-who-like-to-rearrange-things :)
I recently came across a great tip for daily things, especially ones that you might not remember if you did, like taking medication. Make a habit of feeding your pet or giving it a treat right before you do the thing. You may forget, but rest assured, your pet will not.
I write a lot to do's down but sometimes and often on different pieces of paper or whatever is closest. Always preferred writing to typing on my cell so maybe I should get a small notebook to fit my shirt pocket.
I imagine the prompter control is under the desk? But I feel like it just looks like hank has a cat on his lap that he strokes every time he messes up in the bloopers at the end, rofl.
HOW TO ADHD (Also thanks hank for telling me about her previously) ALSO If you dont think it is ADHD it could Be ASD (Autism) SO a good channel is The aspie world
Shout out to Habitica, the only website/app that made me remember flossing my teeth and keep my house reasonably clean. Gotta feed my pixelated wolf!!!
Be specific! Ok! Pick up your toothbrush at a 180° angle. Grab the toothpaste. Open the lid. Squirt an exactly 2 centimeter length glob of toothpaste. Raise the toothbrush . Open your mouth. Angle the toothbrush to your teeth. Brush back and forth for 20 seconds. Ok I’ll shut up lol
This was great, thanks, been searching for "i can't remember the name of a game i used to play" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Piyoren Incredible Prepotence - (do a google search ) ? It is an awesome exclusive guide for discovering how to boost your memory power minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my colleague got amazing results with it.

Good tip
I will definitely try to make that a habit soon
Thanks! 😁👍

Using a bullet journal has been really helpful for me!
writing my to-dos the night before and putting them somewhere I can see next morning always helps me.
P.S @Hank, how long was it until you noticed you put a second diaper on your baby? I am curious!
*adds to watch later*
*M E T A*
i would forget i put it in there
*Never watch.*🤣
Online/app-based to do lists with recurring tasks are LIFE SAVERS. I have no idea how I survived without them.
what's an example of one?
I use Wunderlist and Habitica, but there are lots of different ones that work well for different people and different purposes.
1:50 OH MY GOD IT'S BURNING

Eighteen years ago, I put a diaper on my infant backwards. They totally survived. Stay strong, new papa.
Well yesterday I went to my first day alone teaching a science program to kindergarteners and realised I had forgotten all of my supplies so I think I might need this video
How could you forget about cookies in the oven! I always take them out early ;)
thank you sir for your advices
For me what worked was-
regularly updating my calendar with deadlines
and making daily-goals and weekly-goals.
You're a genius. Thanks for the idea.
I mean I grew up in a pretty broken home, not violent or anything but I'm missing a lot of life skills, I actually really appreciate this channel. Thanks man.
If I don't write it down, it doesn't happen.
Watching this reminded me I had clothes in the washing machine that needed to get dried
Habitica is also a good app to try out
Gamification is what it is conceptualise around, very good for reinforcing, through novelty
I started using it a few months ago and I find it has really helped me!
good i am glad!
when you're already starting out with cookies why not mention timers? my oven can beep after a certain time I set but if it wasn't the case my cellphone does this hob as well
Google Calendar is my god. Seriously, I could not run my life without it.

I literally write everything down that needs to be done.
As with many things, what will work best for you is something you'll actually USE. What works for me is using a desktop sticky note program.
In first year of college, our professor forced us to buy a small journal to write reminders or to-dos. I'm in my last year now and I must say these journals are really helpful.
"A white board next to the refrigerator" - camera turns and a white board is there....
Google Keep is a great app. You can make lists, have an open notepad, draw, add pics, etc to help an idea develop or keep a great to-do list.
I quite often leave a random (or sometimes relevant) object someplace obvious, to remind myself to do something without the effort of a note. E.g. throwing a sock over to the door to remind myself to do something before going out. (Probably only practical for single-folks-without pets-who-like-to-rearrange-things :)

Now the girl is in the poster! And it has no snow anymore! You do not fool me How To Adult, I'm on to you and your ways.
I like having a medium sized notebook just for to-dos. It allows me to be focused and allows me to physically check something off, it's satisfying af.
I forgot to do so much things and I’m not always consistent with my planner. But I’ll try to do better. Great Video!!👍
>Tries to remember
>Ties a ribbon around my finger to remember
>Forgets why the ribbon is there
I just set my alarm with a memo.
"Here's how to remember things"
*Shows bloopers of Hank forgetting his lines multiple times* ;)

yes Co morbid conditions, are a thing now Since DSM5
Also if it is autism. It’s not the end of the world. There are plenty of successful folks who are also autistic. :)
Please, if you haven't already, make a video about leadership
I'm probably going to forget this.
I like to use our new Google Home Mini for reminders. "Hey, Google. Remind me to vacuum this Saturday at noon."
kujmous it’s cool but I hate how you can’t dictate longer things
💚
Shout out to Habitica, the only website/app that made me remember flossing my teeth and keep my house reasonably clean.
Gotta feed my pixelated wolf!!!
I use the reminder app on my phone and it’s effective
lol i usually don't forget to do things i just don't do them
YAS HANK!

*watches desperate to remember to make TH-cam videos everyday*
1:51 I woke up 8 hours later and my boiled eggs had exploded
