Well if anyone's gonna do it, it's the theorizer.
All of this is in the moms head. She has so much anxiety about her kids that she goes insane and imagines what ifs. Thats why when she comes home everything is super clean and tidy. Cus in reality nothing happened. They just played games together while the babysitter slept. The world is all through her lens. She sees the world a happy perfect place. And her boss is some weirdo with ocd. And the whole boyfriend thing, shes just settling. She doesnt really want to be with him so she creates these scenarios in her head, "what if he did ____ to the kids", kinda like making excuses for herself not to be with him.

AH and it would also explain why the cat is reminiscent of the father/the wife's ex: in her manifestations of concern, she creates a disrupting force with familiar traits, but the worst ones have been amplified in her anxious mind. It's her ex, but more chaotic and more of all the things she hated about him that led her to split up with him in the first place. The embodiment of her nightmares.

Nah it's not magic. This is actually a memory, a traumatic one. Their abusive father comes back and kidnaps them, their coping mechanism is to look back on it as a big cat and it all being magic. Really, he's commiting felonies: the parents left and a complete stranger walks (broke) into thier house , gets rid of thier nanny (assaulted), and spends hours "playing" with the kids but all his games are "naughty" . The kids don't really want to play but he just keeps going (held hostage), he knows thier personal info like he's been watching them (stalking) then pulls out a contract that says he can do all of this (enticement of minors)...then he cleans it all up before thier parents get home so they have no idea what happened to them (kidnapped) . He literally traumatizes them so badly they'll probably never tell and if they did no one would believe them......there's no other cat-people in this movie, no one knows where he came from so he'll never get caught.

This movie gave me a genuine anxiety attack as a child. I can’t even joke about this, the movie legitimately traumatized me and I remember every single detail about it. That's funny cause I used to watch this movie alot as a kid until 1 day I had this traumatizing nightmare about it. I still remember the nightmare and ever since then I've never watched this movie again.

Shuddering as you speak into the microphone. The room is strewn about with annotated photographs and torn notes. A dozen empty medicine bottles piled beneath the desk. The town could be a dystopian experiment like the town in The Giver, but with different drugs and a slightly altered experiment. Scientists in northern Montana could have built this set to experiment with more frowned upon drugs like LSD or acid, or maybe going as far as DMT, with the cat as a inside agent documenting the kids live reactions and mental capacities to their environment around them collapsing in on itself. The mother and the cat could be the kids real parents put into the simulation to test their abilities under extreme levels of stress. Or it could he another instance of the truman show and this is some sort of live entertainment for the rest of the world and everyone around the kids are actors. Or maybe its just some fever dream-like movie we all for some reason remember
Couldn't be DMT... with that, the people would be dead, not hallucinating on their feet. I love how the the theorizer is able to talk about anything livht harted and make it sound dark without needing to change the story or add or remove anything and ensted just changes how he describes it.

Well theorizer is a scp sciencists and movie is probably an alternate universe / a pocket universe projected by a tv or channel (open to anyone).

To me the creepiest part of the actual cat from the original book is when the fish tells the cat to get out of their house and the cat straight up says nah I don't wanna, I like it here, and like, holy shit, you don't get to just decide that stuff on whim, you know? It's still *their house,* just how much would the cat decide he would get to just *do* because he feels like it? I know to some I might seem to be overreacting but reading the book to my toddler years ago I seriously ended up getting "the rapist who just hasn't decided he feels like raping anyone yet" vibes o.o
