Thanks for choosing OPTIMA Batteries (our batteries are AGM, not “gel” batteries). Fully-charged, your YELLOWTOPs will measure about 13.0-13.2 volts. We don't recommend a charge rate that exceeds 10 amps for safety reasons. We don't know anything about your charger other than the rate you chose (30 amps) and the time you chose for charging (130 minutes). Our D34/78 YELLOWTOP is a 55Ah battery (110 for two batteries), so if your charger operated at 100% efficiency, it would deliver more than 60 amps in 130 minutes. If your batteries were discharged just enough to prevent the truck from starting and the charger was 100% efficient, it could've resulted in a dangerous overcharging situation. Fortunately, most chargers do not operate at 100% efficiency and your batteries sounded like they were completely discharged. We also heard you mention that one of the batteries was from 2013. We don't know if that means the other one is not the same age, but whenever multiple batteries are installed in the same application (in parallel or series), they should be identical in age, size and type. As batteries age, their internal resistance increases, which makes it harder for them to accept and deliver current. As a result, if you use two batteries of different ages, one may charge faster than the other. When the newer battery is fully-charged, it can become overcharged, as the other battery is still accepting current. The same thing can happen with batteries of different sizes and types (flooded vs AGM). Since you are in the Dakotas, where we know it can get extremely cold, we also want to mention that it is potentially very dangerous to charge any battery that has frozen. While our YELLOWTOPs are protected from freezing down to -30F when fully-charged, they can freeze at warmer temperatures, if they are discharged. This blog explains what to do if you think your battery may have frozen- www.optimabatteries.com/experience/blog/what-happens-if-my-car-battery-freezes
Thank you Optima Batteries for this excellent information. I’ve pinned this to help others also have a better understanding of how to navigate whatever the situation may be. We enjoy running your batteries in our farm & town rigs. 💯 #WorthThePriceTag

I have two Optima red tops that are are 10 & 11 years old. One still works great and the other has a bad cell but it will still start the car on a warm day.
How does one know for sure the battery has a bad cell? I have an Optima Yellowtop & their digital 400 charger. Is there something else I need to buy to check it? Or through testing if it can hold a charge? I'm still learning & have a deeply discharged battery. Thanks
You can purchase a battery tester from Oreilly or any local automotive store. If it’s fully charged but doesn’t meet minimum cranking amps during the test, you have a bad battery.
Old diesels are boss status 😂 I can't stand the smell but I love the torque and sound next up long live the v8s everything else made now vehicle wise is complete junk
I paid $50 for a red top that had never been used. Was couple years old already when I got it. Threw it on my car and it fired up. Hardly drove the car and battery stayed good up until few months ago. It'll jump off and run but won't hold a charge. Now of a battery that's several years old never charged and works that good I'd have to say they are worth the $ imo. If I could gave afford another I'd bought one in a heart beat.
@@2StallGarage being up north and having to have 2 batteries I think I'd definitely go with something that's gonna have the power to not let ya down on those cold winter mornings.
I had a red optima before 2000. It was great. But i bought a yellow one a few years ago and it didnt last long. I didnt understood that the quality vent down, so i bought another one. But same shit. So now i realised its bad buy...
@lifewith26gang45 makes sense to me. The reason I bought the yellow is because it will crank longer, although not as fast as a red top. I had a couple red tops in this truck before that lasted almost 10 years. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated.
Just got a yellow top due to the duralast gold in stock being almost 2 years old they didn't feel comfortable selling me a old battery no upcharge just handed me the optima and some grease for my troubles win win
I had a cheap small varta battery last around 6 years in my car. Now i got the largest fitting high end bosch. Hoping to see 10 years out of that at least. @@2StallGarage
No no no! When they were made in Denver they would last 10yrs. If you are in cold weather go with any east penn made AGM. If you have massive power drains go with X2

I have Optima battery bought in 2006, yellow top, still going today in 2023.
Now that is an achievement. They just don’t last that long anymore.
I bought an Optima yellow top in 2013 and its still going 2023!
That’s what we want in a battery. Excellent
Can’t say I’m impressed with their blue tops. 6 months after warranty it craps out. What a waste of money!
Because you bought it when they were made in Denver not Mexico
I used Optima batteries for year in my Jeeps but I switches a few year ago to Odyssey Extreme in my 2017 Jeep JK.
Like it?

Bring the battery into a warm place then recharge the battery
My new red top died after two months. Optima quality really went downhill. Used to be great batteries. No response from Optima for warranty.
That's a bummer. I typically purchase Wal-Mart's Everstart or O'reilly Auto Super Start and just hold onto the receipt.
It would be worth it if the battery lasted 10 years

AGM. I didn’t realize until I was learned.
