    We just had a ~14 month old Aussie turn up in our property one morning. He was just here playing with our dogs but was ready to run away when he saw me. I called him while bending down to his level and he gingerly came over and let me pet him. No collar/name tag filthy, skinny, riddled with fleas and hungry for love.
    He was also intact and the vet couldn’t find a chip anywhere in his body. We looked for his family in all the websites, the shelter and all notices for lost dogs 250 miles around. No one had ever seen him, and even UPS man had never seen him in any of the surrounding properties. We are very rural, 20 acres on dirt roads, and though it’s not common for dogs to be dumped around here it does happen.
    It’s been 4 weeks and Foster has gained a little bit of weight, no longer has matted hair and fleas. He’s also been fixed and has a new chip. Foster is no longer our “foster dog” he has found a place in our pack an ranch. He’s a sweet, beautiful boy whom we are training to not chew on shoes and cables. And we love him.
    I imagine someone couldn’t give him the exercise and attention he needed to not become destructive and they couldn’t deal with him any more. Here he’s learning to herd our goats and chickens and he’s part of the nightly security force, our pack, that keeps coyotes and other pests away from our animals. He’s a happy boy with a forever home.
    Please do not get an Aussie if you can’t give the space and work they need to be happy.

    Ok. Everyone says Aussies are high energy - I have a pure Breed Aussiefrom Montana- and he is absolutely the most laziest- kind- loving soul in the world. He likes to do tricks here and then but he rather cuddle and be with me 24/7! He gets along with dogs, he has lots of dog friends He LOVES to walk and play with- but after 20
    Mins he is like over it! ? He rather walk me to the couch to watch animal planet! I SWARE! lol. Either way this breed is seriously THE BEST! absolutely love them ❤

      My Aussie is a pure bred stock dog and she is not crazy. She loves everyone, dogs, kids, and does not bite at all. She is happy to be with me, will sleep on the bed but winds up in the living room where she can guard all entries. She has the most beautiful blue eyes that I couldn't resist when I got her at 8 weeks.

    We just rescued an Aussie a couple weeks ago. Him and that frisbee, holy crap. He destroyed 2 in the first day so that Kong is a great purchase. That herding trait is so strong with him. Such a great breed, all full of love and happiness. I’d forgotten how therapeutic having a dog is.

    • @ahhhmedia8749
      @ahhhmedia8749 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've found my brother's aussie is fine with catching anything frizbee like. So those small lids that you can throw work well. Like off soup containers. Our dog doesn't seem interested in tearing the lil ones up but he loves catching anything frizbee. He won't tare them up if you keep him going I buy like 20 and he runs back and forth catching them and eventually he just started dropping the Frisbee back off by me in a little line. You can't throw the new one till he drops off the one he caught though. That's key to allowing him to line up the drop offs

      @allaboutroofing2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      What's the difference? Train them, love them and give them a job to do. All dog training and the bond established applies to both service animals and awesome pets. My dog is a service dog, not officially as I have no need and he isn't allowed anywhere a pet can't be since I want to respect those that have a need. He does however have the ability should I get hit by a bus tomorrow and someone need a service animal, to be just that. His training emphasis is retrieving dropped items or bring back items by name. He also lays down when a siren goes off.

    • @maddyrose9569
      @maddyrose9569 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@allaboutroofing2 I don't think he is a service dog. A service dog is a dog trained to specifically do tasks to assist and mitigate your disability but then again I'm not sure where he is from if he is from England (I'm guessing by him saying 20° is warm hinting celcius) he could be a service dog as we call actual service dogs assistance dogs 🤷🏻‍♀️

    IMO, they are one of the highest intelligence dogs in the world and they are beautiful as well. I have two of them and I love them like children. Yes, they are high energy but wow, they amaze me the way they try so hard to decipher what you’re saying to them. They immediately pick up on certain words and react accordingly. So easy to train too. I just can’t say enough good things about them. Your video demonstrates what amazing dogs they are.

      Hey bro, I inherited a neglected 3 year-old full-size Aussie from a first-time dog owner who would leave him crated or locked in a room for 12 hours at a time. When I got him, I was determined to exercise him adequately, but I think that his uneventful puppy years made him lazy, because, unless he’s romping around with a fellow canine companion, he literally refused to run. Okay, he’ll run to CATCH something, but he takes his sweet time coming back, and even crossing a street, he will not run! As in, he refuses to run. The kicker is, I love to run, but as it is, I’m leaving Tater at home because, I think he’s broken. I’ve tried carrying treats, but then he stays buried in my pocket. What can I do. I know we have to build up, but I don’t even know where to start. Thanks for the content, as the last year has made me a huge fan of the breed, but I want him to be as healthy as he can be, and for that, he’s got get that cardio going! Any tips?

    My border collie/Aussie went through a phase where she didn’t like the car when she previously did. There was about a month where she had a several of vet appointments, dental cleaning and grooming and they weren’t necessarily fun for her even though she got lots of treats when I was there to give them to her. We did training in the car with so many treats and fun trips to visit doggo friends and family. It seemed to work really well. She gets in the car and relaxes and passes out now instead of pace and pant.

    Thank you for emphasizing Frankie loves his jobs and needs them to utilize his abundant energy. We learned how important jobs were to our Aussie and Aussie/Border Collie mix brothers. Of course, their first job was to be with us, Aussies bond to their people and they become pack. I am very much an introvert, but walking with my dogs made me feel more comfortable around people. Training is a life long process because Aussies are smart and need to be learning to keep them happy and their brain busy. In our house we say, “a bored Aussie is a destructive Aussie”. I am so happy to see that Frankie is back to feeling good.

    I just lost my Aussie at 13 years, she was amazing, truly the greatest dog you could ask for. We competed in agility when I was younger and she took that job very seriously and loved it. Frisbee was also a favorite, she would get visibly sad/frustrated when she didn’t catch it. The little adventures were the best, she knew what harness we used for off leash and she would get so excited. Great off leash dog and she had a blast jumping around the woods exploring. Truly an amazing dog and breed, and a huge loss. I’ll probably end up getting another one at some point because she was so awesome.

    This reminds me so much of my 1.5 year old mini Australian Shepherd. I take him to work with me everyday and in the morning, I get him out of the car, and I started telling him to wait because I have to lock the door and get my coffee. After only a couple of days, he gets out, then walks toward me and waits for me to lock the door and get my coffee. He has also quickly learned to "leave" things, and understands when I tell him not to bark when he goes outside in my backyard (there are many dogs in my neighborhood and Louie thinks he has to protect us).

    They are smart, I had border collies which are also smart. I had 2 girls who got along mostly except at feeding time, I would put the younger girl in the garage while I fed the older one. When I went to get the younger one she was sitting in the front seat. My husband said I must have left the car door open, for peace I didn’t say anything. The next day the car light was on. After feeding her I went back in the garage and found the door handle wet and full of teeth marks. She knew how to open the door hoping for a car ride. I’m too old now to have border collies now. Awesome work. I’ve taught my mini Australian Shepard to mark my lie in disc golf. As soon as I grab my disc golf bag she’s gets the zoomies on the way to the car. And she gets them a lot if we drive past the disc golf course she knows where it is even if you take different routes to the course. I have been working with her since she was a puppy she now loves disc golfing with groups if gives her more discs to mark. After everyone shoots there shot I throw a dog disc roller for her to tackle and she takes it to the basket. That’s her disc and she is really good at listening to my leave it commands from a distance but it’s taken lots of practice, peanut butter and short throws before we upgraded to longer throws and the courses she frequents.

    Not surprised that Frankie was able to make the change up and catch the frisbee off an obstacle. We have many trees in our yard, and mine does a pretty good job of changing his direction when the frisbee bounces off of a tree branch. I just wish mine would bring the frisbee back. He makes a catch and drops it, waiting for another one. But our younger Aussie will sometimes grab the dropped frisbee and bring it back for him.

    We just got an Aussie. She is about 4 months now and she can’t catch anything lol. Treats just hit her face 😂. Did Frankie naturally catch things or was it a thing that happened over time ? Great vid by the way

      Mine was the same way, thats a little early. They are still developing coordination. Mine started catching out of nowhere at about 8 months.

      My border collie is 4.5 months and has just started to catch. Just balls around the house, he’s not quite fast enough to get the frisbee although he tries. I’ve read rolling the frisbee on the ground gets them used to biting the sides of the frisbee. See if that helps and keep throwing those tennis balls! I also make an effort to have slightly different responses when he “catches and returns” vs just “returns” extra praise for catching!

      Aww, she's just a baby. Many dogs don't instinctively fetch. Herding dogs aren't retrievers. They naturally chase but won't necessarily bring it back to you on instinct alone. Dogs don't just know how to play with humans, part of the fun of building a relationship with them is teaching them
      To 🥰

    • @Noncenx
      @Noncenx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      she'll get it. I call my girl, My Shortstop. She'll snag tennis balls in the air over her shoulder while running back to get them. Or head off one I try to shoot it by her on the ground. That's when she's not bringing a frisbee to play with. All I have to do is say Get the Ball and the hunt is on with her running all over the house or yard until she finds it.

    I just got a blue Merle mini Aussie last Monday. He’s 12 weeks old now. And he’s already so smart. He’s 100% crate trained. 95% house broke. Has maybe one accident every few days. When we strap the harness on he knows it’s potty/walk time. At what age did you start to introduce other activities and training other than just the casual play time. I’d love for him to be able to play frisbee or anything with me. My plan for him is to be my full time companion and do things with me like going to work because we’re outside a lot but also inside a lot and have dog parks all around. I’ve only had him a week but he’s gotten socialized a lot so far. Especially this past holiday weekend he went everywhere with me. Plus I have 3 other dogs and 4 cats and 3 young daughters. I’m just not sure on when to introduce new things to him. I’m forsure going to get him a frisbee to try, forsure getting him some herding balls and some puzzles. What else would he be possibly interested in?

    Just discovered your channel, and I’m just laughing because the breed is so predictable. Our mini does all the exact same things! Felt like I was watching my dog. Cool to see other owners that understand the breed. Breaks my heart when I see an overweight Aussie that doesn’t get the proper exercise. In addition to her frisbee sessions, our Aussie LOVES to follow me on the mountain bike. I haven’t found an activity that tires her more. Such amazing dogs. Great content 👍

      I have a 5 month old border collie australian shepherd pup and I'm learning how to walk her with the bike! She loves it but I feel she knows I'm inexperienced in walking a dog and riding at the same time! Jazz (my dog) is definitely encouraging me to be more active and I know we will both be happier for it 💚

    I have a water bottle recommendation!!!! We use the squeeze dog water bottles from amazon because they have a little bowl top and you just squeeze the water up into the bowl and anything you doggo doesn’t drink drains right back in. It doesn’t leak and I absolutely swear by it. The one we use is the AutoDogMug Highwave Leak-Tight 22oz (I haven’t had any problems with it but I also haven’t tried the other ones to see if it’s necessarily the best one).

    My doggo is Aussie Shepherd Catahoula mix. He weighs 100 Lbs and his energy level is off the chart. I backpack and adventure through the wilderness a lot, that's helpful. I throw the Chuckit Ball and that helps. He crushes most balls. I take him to the country side a lot. He behaves, but he packs on a lot if weight if he doesn't exercise.

    We do runs as well if it's not too hot. Usually we would run to an open area then i let him loose so he can run at his natural pace which is more in intervals. I recognise a lot of the stuff you talk about, instead of frisbee we have like a ball attached to a rope that we throw in moderation. Hikes can be good to because its's a new area and even if they don't run there is so many new smells etc. We have done a few courses in agility and obedience and there is an agility course quite close to where we live so we go there from time to time as well, he seem to enjoy that :)

    I have a bottle of water for my aussie that has a relatively deep flip top lid.. it wasn't designed to use this way, but it holds enough water and i just refill it until shes done.. filled with ice its enough for a few hours at the park.
