Yes & no is the answer to your question. Most is trim dependant, but honda's accord is the only 1 to offer a manual with both engines in their "sporty" sport trim (and it was on my next list along with GTI, Alltrack, BRZ, Si). Camry has a TRD "sporty" trim and a nice v6. Ironically, the company that brought us "zoom-zoom" doesn't offer a sporty trim (just regular and luxury) nor a manual in their big car. I'd love to see a '6 with more edge/bite/aggression to it. I really wanted a (manual) 6wagon, but none are offered in US/CAN; shame. Instead, we get another cuv in the cx-30 to pick from 👎. I like that Mazda is moving their product/target up to near luxury and keeping it "affordable", but I really wish they would continue with their sporty, driver-focused, motorsports inspired, zoom zoom side as well and not let the miata/MX-5 be the ONLY Mazda to carry the "really fun to drive" flag. Why go prototype racing if you aren't going to sell a (Mazda)speed or fast(er) sporty car? Secondly, I really despise the white/parchment interior no matter how good it looks; not with as much use as a car sees. Where are the nice deep browns, blues, reds? Give us contrast, but don't use white.
That white interior was asking for trouble with the kids! I agree if Mazda we’re going to make a sportier trim on anything other than MX5, the 6 would be the way to go. Maybe they’re waiting for a return of the rotary?!

I have the non turbo 4-cylinder and I get around just fine on thie highway and in the city. Not sure why you feel the need to have more to make maneuvers on the road other than you just like getting pressed back in your seat more and burning more fuel
Without the boost this car would be slow. There was allot of demand for Mazda to get more HP for many years. This is the only engine worth considering on a CX5 or Mazda 6. It will still get decent MPG's if you drive it normally. But its nice having the boost when you need it. It all depends on how you drive it. Non turbo will indeed get you about 4 mpg more. If it was me, I definitely get the turbo and put premium in it. At that point, you got as much power as the BMW Bi turbo motor and more torque. That's impressive. Also the BMW requires premium fuel as well. Yeah it cost more but too much fun. In short, this car is too big/heavy for just the normally aspirated motor. The turbo will probably have better resale value as well.
2:12 That looks really cramped and uncomfortable for a longer drive. May I ask how tall you are? The car is gorgeous, but it's a Mazda, so it's a given.
I am 6'3" (190 cm in Canadian ;), long legs. I used to like driving compact vehicles because I could get closer to the wheel and open my knees, but the intrusive center consoles now make it impossible, and the steering wheels do not telescope far enough to provide a comfortable driving position. I guess having a Big Gulp next to one's knee is more important these days.
@@mountainhobo Great point on the telescopic steering. I noticed that the other day too, you just don't see it like you used to. Too many wires etc running through there to the steering mounted buttons, perhaps?
I have done multiple 500 mile per day drives on my 2019 6 GT this year, and what's more, I've done the same exact drive in a KIA and a Hyundai as well. The 6 is significantly more comfortable to drive.
You quoted mpg in the fuel consumption which appeared very poor figures, that is because you have you mistakenly quoted US gallons instead of Canadian (Imperial) gallons. They are not the same volume, a US gallon is smaller by roughly 15%, and so your mpg figures are inaccurate by that amount. Live and learn, Canada is not the USA, matey.
I thought he quoted metric fuel economy for most of the world and then MPG for those of us in the USA, appropriately in US gallons. It was nice of him to include us. Good report! I have one of these cars, non-turbo, automatic transmission. Highway fuel economy at 70 miles per hour (in US gallons) is usually about 38 mpg with 10% ethanol and about 41 mpg with 100% gasoline. Also, I haven't seen gasoline sold in Canada in Imperial gallons, only litres.
@@buffdelcampo That would be fine, but this is a Canadian car review and Canadian gallons are Imperial (UK) gallons which are not the same as US gallons. So he is an Aussie reviewing a car in Canada for sale in Canada, so why would US gallons even be mentioned! US gallon = 3.785 litres and Imperial (Canadian) gallon = 4.546 litres, not the same.
Love that trim level, but want smaller wheels (more sidewall) and no sunroof. Unfortunately, if you don't want the sunroof, you're stuck with black or brown cloth. The interior looks kinda small, through. Seems also nowadays that cabin space is comparable to compact sedans no matter the class of car. Okay, I miss the old land yachts. :(
Usually the way they decide to tune the engine. In this segment they want some performance but also good fuel economy. Some want bottom end torque while others want top end rev range horsepower. With the Mazda6 they’ve gone for enough to have a bit of fun but also everyday driving comfort and decent economy.
On premium it makes 250, but the reason this car doesn’t perform like the Accord 2.0t isn’t the power, it’s the transmission being limited to 6 gears. The 10speed in the Accord allows better gearing and can keep in the powerband easier.
I do wonder how long before the volume knob stops working and puts the volume louder when you turn it to lower it. Had that problem with a pioneer head unit. Just a thought.
Did you have to unlpug the whole thing?! Otherwise it would have been at full vol!! In which case you'd have to make sure you had some decent tunes loaded :)
The Honda also offers a Honda built 10-speed automatic. The CVT is only offered in base engine. In the 2.0T youbcan get a 6 speed manual in the sport and in the top trim touring the only transmission offered is the new 10-Speed automatic which is quite good!
@@kennygmonkey I agree. They are boring, but I like the rest if the car. And what I'm hoping is in next year's 3 year refresh , they will address the taillights and make them look better like they did on the refresh of the last gen accord on the sedan and the coupe.
Yes. It has start to stop cruise. It will pace the car in front of you down to a complete stop, then brake itself. To start again, just tap the gas pedal and it will again pace the car in front. You can travel home to work without touching the gas or brake pedals. Radar cruise control.
only people who doesn't know cars they don't know or don't care about CVT .. but most people no who does or aware of cars. no one does like that thing CVT !!! .. CVT is a bad idea. and it will take years before it get better.. if it will ever will anyway !!!
CVT just a cheap way for oems to get their CAFE numbers. But yeah, who wants a rubber band for a trans. Not me. Mazda always makes reliable cars/suvs. It important to them and why they don't use CVT and probably never will.
The Mazda 6 interior is so old-fashioned. When did this generation come out? Where are the console cup holders like on a Camry? Plus the 6 speed auto is so old style you see it in stuff like the Kia Optima. I'm also not confident in the durability of a turbo-fitted engine.
After driving Cadillacs and now Mazda 6 Signatures for awhile I can tell you that the Mazda blows away most cars especially the Cadillacs. Great gas mileage, great looks, great feel, great dependability, and the Signature is very close to the Cadillac CT6 in gadgets but is over $50,000 less!
Especially the Mazda 6. You don't see many of these. Still see a fair amount of Accords/Camry's driving around. I'm thinking this might be more reliable then the new Accord 2.0T with 10 speed. I'm pretty sure of that. Most reliable car by consumer reports is the Mazda MX5 (Miata). Which is their pride and joy. probably the best made car of all time. Its why you still see allot of first generation miata's. they are bullet proof.
Needs an LED so badly. Same for the Accord 2L T and Camry V6. First car to offer a LSD will be a game changer. Sadly no one (buyers) cares how this segment drives /cuts power harshly. I'd save up a little more and just get a Genesis G70 personally
@@FamilyWheels I used to be a big Mazda fan. Unfortunately, they have fallen behind the curve. Their sales are down from last year, which were down from the year before. Sales for the CX-5 (their bread and butter car) are also down from last year. I went car shopping with my brother, who was looking for a compact crossover. He was put off by the decidedly small interior of the CX-5. He got a Forrester. I test drove a new Mazda 3 and came away less than impressed. Yes, the interior is more upscale than the Corolla or the Civic, but the rear seat is unacceptably cramped. The handling is decidedly ordinary. The gas milage is also lagging behind the competition. Mazda is very much out of touch when it comes to making cars that appeal to people in every segment.
Yes and no. When it comes to performance for a fwd midsized sedan it does compete but everything else that makes a midsized sedan practical it doesnt. This refresh lacks interior room and trunk space are a let down compared to others in the segment and thats what people buying these cars mostly care about.
I test drove the 2019 model . I thought that the interior was that of a luxury sedan. The only issue that I had with it was power. I drive a Genesis G70. So don't depend on my comment regarding the power. This vehicle drives great. I find the other Japanese vehicles to be ,well boring. They'll last forever, but well I guess if you want a dependable appliance, Toyota is your vehicle. Honda has the better styling between Toyota and Honda. The Mazda, can beat the driving fun. It's the sportiest of the 3 Japanese automaker. If you just want to get from point A, to point B ,and don't care about fun, choose the Toyota. Mazda, zoom zoom zoom!
Toyotas really are the most boring. Their cars offer a soft, comfortable ride. But it feels like you are floating over the road, with little feedback. Hondas generally feel more tightly sprung, have better acceleration, and when you drive it them they feel almost sporty. I've owned 3 or 4 Toyotas and Hondas, and this overall build philosophy applies to their minivans, midsize sedans, and compacts. The Hondas always feel more like driver's cars. That said, Mazdas are actually built with that "fun to drive" factor in mind. Zoom zoom is definitely their philosophy. In the case of the Mazda6, The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models (In the U.S.) offer a level of luxury that is very high for a non-premium brand. If you drove a Mazda6 Signature blind-folded, you would crash, haha. But before that crash you would think you might be in a Lexus, an Infinity, or an Audi. (I say this with the exception of that very dated infotainment screen mounted on the dash. That thing definitely does not look premium.)
It doesn't compete with Camry and Accord, but Mazda vehicles are way better than all Hyundai and Kias.. it's also better than any Ford cars... BTW Ford stands for Fix OR Repare Daily..
luv mazda, but screw turbo....I'll purchase the regular engine....matter fact I'll wait for all the quirks to be solved and all the bells and whistles to be installed
No AWD wat to much to repair especially to get to...look up Scotty TH-cam, he'll explain it to you why he doesn't recommend AWD and I totally agree...a nice set of Continental PoroContact tire on FWD and I can assure you'll be just fine for the winter 🌨️❄️⛷️snow storms...those are the only tire I purchase for all myly vehicles and currently using them on my 2016 FWD Ford Fusion SE and believe not once have ever I gotten stuck in a 🌨️❄️⛷️snow storm👍😁
Mazda limits the number of models it manufactures and concentrates instead on performance and value. That is why I will take any Mazda any day over any Honda or Toyota. Both companies produce BLAND cars.
@@FamilyWheels Pretty sure the accord cleans the floor on sales over the Mazda 6. Also the Camry sells well. Mainly those two are what people buy. I rarely see a Mazda 6. Mostly Mazda sells CX3/CX5.
I've owned 3 Mazda and they always eat the brakes. More confinement in cockpit, back seat, and trunk than Toyota. Exhaust rattle from gaskets or converter shelds. Noisy tires that wear quicker than Toyota. Lower mpg also. You pay for refinement, nicer std features, sporty driving aspects with more dealership visits.
Mazda 6 is MUCH better than Accord and Camry and competes more with Lexus ES and Audi A4 lower levels. Honda and Toyota should take notes from Mazda design for interiors (Toyota interiors are garbage).
@@williamcass68 Mazda is very plastic per say. Very thin metal, noisy, worst painting across all names and no driving fun at all. Audi on other hand is a joy to drive, built by much higher standard. Looking forward to seeing it, revising that soon!
Torn between a mazda6 touring 2020 and a Camry se 2020
I have the non turbo 4-cylinder and I get around just fine on thie highway and in the city. Not sure why you feel the need to have more to make maneuvers on the road other than you just like getting pressed back in your seat more and burning more fuel
I'm not gonna lie, I do like me some acceleration :)
Mazda6 hands down the most underrated car on the market
Mazda puts Toyota and Honda to shame. This is such a nice ride
Really enjoyed this one!
@@FamilyWheels Nice!!!
Those two happy looking kids playing around are more beautiful than the car.
Very sweet thing to say 😊
You guys don't have the 10 speed automatic on the Accords? Glad I live in the US
Hi James, yes we get the ten speed with 2.0 turbo so it's not a totally horrible place to live :)
To me,Mazda6s biggest advantage over the accord and camry is the design ex and in.. so much class and beauty..
Mazda 6 Skyaktiv D 2,2 184hp👍🏻
Get the non turbo engine. Plenty of power and better gas mileage.
Didn’t get to drive the non turbo, but the turbo was super fun!
Wait. You only need 225hp to make overtaking *fun*.
200 is a "magic number" and the non-turbo engine just simply responds.
Car prices in Canada are insane! Top of the line accord here in States will set u back for 36K vs 42 was it? In Canada
Yup, we’re totally used to it, unfortunately 😔
Accord 2.0t has a 10speed auto, not just the manual, and NO CVT
Yep, correction is in description 👍🏻
Looked at this vehicle at dealership last week-LOVE IT......
I want one plz. This car is gorgeous
Add remote engine start to the new key fob, more hp on the turbo and awd.
I'd take AWD at the top of that list and pour in some premium for 250hp!
2:12 That looks really cramped and uncomfortable for a longer drive. May I ask how tall you are? The car is gorgeous, but it's a Mazda, so it's a given.
I’m an even 6 feet. I do tend to slide my seat forward and then recline a little cos I have long arms!
I’m 6’5” , and am very comfortable in the front seats. No issues with room.
I have done multiple 500 mile per day drives on my 2019 6 GT this year, and what's more, I've done the same exact drive in a KIA and a Hyundai as well. The 6 is significantly more comfortable to drive.
Hi great video! Did you say front and back heated seats on the gs model?
Mazda6 is a very handsome sedan.
Sure is 👌🏻
You quoted mpg in the fuel consumption which appeared very poor figures, that is because you have you mistakenly quoted US gallons instead of Canadian (Imperial) gallons.
Ha! Yeah the old boats of the road had their benefits.
Can Mazda 6 compete with Camry and Accord?
Driving dynamics and style: YES
sales: NO
Not with sales, no. Quality cars though.
You should do a review on the GSL trim level ?
Would love to do them all! It’s common to only get one trim level available for testing though 👍🏻
Family Wheels ya but every trim level is different
When are they updating the infortainment ?
Mazda has become premium brand
Sure was nice in there.
How come some cars with 2.0L turbos put out close to 300hp while this one with the 2.5L barely pushes over 220hp?
Usually the way they decide to tune the engine. In this segment they want some performance but also good fuel economy. Some want bottom end torque while others want top end rev range horsepower. With the Mazda6 they’ve gone for enough to have a bit of fun but also everyday driving comfort and decent economy.
On premium it makes 250, but the reason this car doesn’t perform like the Accord 2.0t isn’t the power, it’s the transmission being limited to 6 gears. The 10speed in the Accord allows better gearing and can keep in the powerband easier.
@@FamilyWheels This engine will last a long time too
That center armrest is so tiny, it's more of an elbow rest. I prefer the center console on the 2019 Honda Accord for sure.
Love the look of 10 generation accord much more than Mazda 6. I think it's a right time to Mazda make new exterior design for the 6.
Mazda 2 is interesting. Fun little car. For us that have no children.
The options really open up without the little ones!
Would u get this over the Accord?
In a heartbeat yes
Yes, in a heartbeat. The new Accord is just an uggo car.
Jason Day heck yea
Mazda could've had the perfect styling, but they took away the fog lights.
Why buy a sedan instead of a crossover or SUV if it doesn't even have AWD?
The Honda also offers a Honda built 10-speed automatic. The CVT is only offered in base engine. In the 2.0T youbcan get a 6 speed manual in the sport and in the top trim touring the only transmission offered is the new 10-Speed automatic which is quite good!
We've heard it's quite good! Thanks for the heads up. There's a correction in the bio.
I just don’t like the tail lights they should’ve stick with the old one
@@kennygmonkey I agree. They are boring, but I like the rest if the car. And what I'm hoping is in next year's 3 year refresh , they will address the taillights and make them look better like they did on the refresh of the last gen accord on the sedan and the coupe.
@@kennygmonkey Tail lights can be a divisive issue, hey!
Push button gear shift, no thanks.
... but does it have cruise control able to do 40 kph like a 2003 Mazda 6?
I sure hope so!
A recent model Camry, I drive sometimes, doesn't! @@FamilyWheels
@@FamilyWheels Mazda 6 wins as it will cruise as low as 25kmh or 16mph whereas the Camry only goes to 25mph or 40kph.
@@N7eptune Thanks for doing the hard yards to find the answer! Love it!
Yes. It has start to stop cruise. It will pace the car in front of you down to a complete stop, then brake itself. To start again, just tap the gas pedal and it will again pace the car in front. You can travel home to work without touching the gas or brake pedals.
Radar cruise control.
try to get service, and if you like being hot in the summer, the SHIT AC takes way too long to cool down
Wasn't hot enough to test the A/C on this occasion
I would choose this MAZDA 6......your so right.
only people who doesn't know cars they don't know or don't care about CVT .. but most people no who does or aware of cars. no one does like that thing CVT !!! .. CVT is a bad idea. and it will take years before it get better.. if it will ever will anyway !!!
Looks like they’re here to stay for now, huh. Will be interesting to see how they hold up long term.
CVT just a cheap way for oems to get their CAFE numbers. But yeah, who wants a rubber band for a trans. Not me. Mazda always makes reliable cars/suvs. It important to them and why they don't use CVT and probably never will.
Mazda 6 all day long.
Solid ride.
Mazda = beautiful, classy, sporty, luxurious.
The Mazda 6 interior is so old-fashioned. When did this generation come out? Where are the console cup holders like on a Camry? Plus the 6 speed auto is so old style you see it in stuff like the Kia Optima. I'm also not confident in the durability of a turbo-fitted engine.
Hi Hannah, this gen first appeared in 2012. The turbo engines have actually been pretty reliable 👍🏻
Include the Sonata in family car comparisons.
Sure thing, haven't driven the latest, would love to!
My 2014 is the best car I've ever owned. 108k and not a single repair
That’s fantastic 👍🏻
2014 Mazda 6, but which trim level?
@@gilgamess it was the mid level. The top level was overpriced.
There is no piped in engine sound on the Mazda6.
Probably why I didn't see it written anywhere! Sure seemed like it but I'm glad if it's not :)
Yep, Mazda's a solid value!
It's such a lovely looking car even a few years on. The interior is really nice.
We really enjoyed it too!
"If you do-do" lol
Haha! Consider it a little Easter egg 😂
Heard that
Switch back to a sedan, and if you don't, you may not have a choice in the future.
Not many left in the sea of CUV’s, crossovers etc, that’s for sure.
@@FamilyWheels Where I live, literally every other car is a Honda CRV. Basically every soccer mom has one.
@@HiPlains1 Not to mention how much FUN a good ol Miata is!
Should have V6 engine
Needs an LED so badly. Same for the Accord 2L T and Camry V6. First car to offer a LSD will be a game changer. Sadly no one (buyers) cares how this segment drives /cuts power harshly. I'd save up a little more and just get a Genesis G70 personally
You think they'll bother with LSD though, or just introduce AWD?
The Mazda rear seat is cramped. The Accord is faster and gets better gas milage.
Certainly a bit tighter fit than the Accord.
Drove the Altima right after this and the interior space was very noticeably bigger.
You sound crazy
Why are we comparing Mazda6 to home appliances
We are?!
Never mind the Accord and Camry, what about the Legacy? Oh wait, I have a Legacy (an H6, now replaced by turbo 4) and it competes very well indeed.
Would love to drive the new legacy, I'm trying to get into one for a review!
It doesn't compete with Camry and Accord, but Mazda vehicles are way better than all Hyundai and Kias.. it's also better than any Ford cars... BTW Ford stands for Fix OR Repare Daily..
An oldie but a goodie 😂
Mazda 6💪
luv mazda, but screw turbo....I'll purchase the regular engine....matter fact I'll wait for all the quirks to be solved and all the bells and whistles to be installed
What other bells and whistles are you hoping for?!
All Wheel Drive would be awesome.
@@Sazonman scotti lives in houston no snow!! If you have nasty winters with snow and ice awd helps.
It’s wet as hell this week in Vancouver and I’m driving the Nissan Altima with AWD as standard and the difference is astonishing.
Nice but I luv the 2.0 Honda accord sport way better
Nice to see the Touring 2.0 now too.
Mazda for the win
Why are you reviewing a car that is not made for Australia?
Beautiful
Compared to European petrol turbo engines this is too thirsty. Should have AWD available too.
Is the European engine still the same power output?
Mazda limits the number of models it manufactures and concentrates instead on performance and value. That is why I will take any Mazda any day over any Honda or Toyota. Both companies produce BLAND cars.
Good info about the production limit, do you know the percentage less they produce v Honda/Toyota?
Needs AWD.
AWD would be amazing on the 6 👍🏻
Compete with Camry and Accord?
Driving dynamics? YES
Sales? NO
What about seat comfort?
We found seat comfort in the Signature to be very good indeed.
Yep, they certainly trail in the number of units sold. Very nice car still though.
@@FamilyWheels I was sarcastic. Honda seats are crap. Mazda is way better. Even base model has mechanical lumbar support
😂😂 Sorry, I’ve had a couple Xmas beverages!
Mazda 6 is MUCH better than Accord and Camry and competes more with Lexus ES and Audi A4 lower levels. Honda and Toyota should take notes from Mazda design for interiors (Toyota interiors are garbage).
Really loved this interior too. So nice. Excellent car.
Nope, it doesnt even come close to German vehicles. Mazda is cheap imitation. Never compare German vehicles to Mazda.
O. S. Not a companion other than to the attractive design. Oh, and the cost savings.
@@williamcass68 Mazda is very plastic per say. Very thin metal, noisy, worst painting across all names and no driving fun at all. Audi on other hand is a joy to drive, built by much higher standard. Can't even compare. When you lease, the cost of maintenance is zero, except that with Audi a customer is being treated with the respect. With Mazda , you must fight for all services.
O. S. Fight for you services, your literally talking out your ass right now. That Audi wether you lease or finance it, the value sucks on those cars, and their highly unreliable.. ppl like you literally buy a car for the ‘badge’ not because it’s a overall great car.. Whoa, wheres the drag race Mario? 180 horsepower is more than enough for those of us satisfied with our penis size. I guess there's no magic number for fuel economy.
More the size of the truck you’re overtaking than the size of ones appendage 😂😂👍🏻
The third gen Mazda 6 came out in 2013 dude.
Yeah I meant to say the GL;05 variant.
I love this car and I want one! :-)
It's great!
Mazda could have REALLY stood out if they had put a real engine in there instead of that stupid turbo shit that has contaminated everything.
nice but not sporty or luxurious enough for my tastes...going with the Maxima Platinum
Good option! Had the Altima Platinum last week and that falls short of the Mazda6 for both sportiness and luxurious feel.
SUPER CAR MAZDA 6 😍💪👍👌
👌
In the US the top spec with turbo comes with AWD.
No it doesn’t. I just checked. Only in Europe and Australia does the mazda6 have AWD
Australia also had (has?) the diesel wagon. I drove it in 2016 or so. Awesome ride.
