Mazda is doing a great job with this vehicle. I see some people saying it’s outdated but tbh I prefer they are taking the approach to refine this vehicle, see what works, and perfect it so when they move to the next generation, they don’t have to try out a bunch of new stuff that may or may not work. Toyota and Honda are the masters of refining their vehicles and not revamping the vehicle entirely. They are (rightfully) praised for their reliability for a reason! Mazda is approaching this very well and the 6 holds a special place in my heart. On a side note, we love our CX-9!
Best car that nobody buys! But seriously a great car (am an owner of a 2019 6) and can stack against the Camrys and Accords (not talking abt sales numbers of course) and best of all not too common unlike those 2 others which dominate the market. I prefer to stand out than just blend in the crowd...
I like this car. When upgrading my car it came down to the Accord and the 6. I ultimately bought the Accord because I believe it’s better in most category. I still can’t help to look when a 6 drives past.

I would like to drive the turbo but the naturally aspirated 2.5 feels very good to me at least 90% of the time and the new model looks so similar to my car that I don’t really see the need to upgrade just now. The next generation though with the RWD platform and inline 6 cylinder, I can’t wait to drive it.

A good first review. Since your focus is on Japanese and Korean cars, can you break from the norm of other reviewers and also look at the lower end models of each maker? There are buyers that are looking for information on the new Hyundai Accent, for example. While not sexy or high-performing, these lower end of the model line cars sell and it would be nice to see someone give them some love and good review for prospective buyers.
Great review. I bought a 2016 Mazda 6 with the 6-speed manual. Car had 90,000 mi on it and was still in pristine condition for 9,000 bucks. Best car I've ever owned. Can't wait for the RWD version. Hope they bring back the manual.

Kirk, for a sedan that has been that long (since 2014) on the market it feels newer than that (figure why the rear headlights). The only fact you've forgot to include is that you can use 87 octane gas on the T-2.5, only the hp drops to 227 (keeps the 310 lb-ft torque though). Just imagine when Mazda gets the new I6 w/the new combustion system (you'll see the next Lexus IS made out of this same platform and probably switch the 2-row RX to RWD). This seems to be 1 generation behind Lexus, the next one you'll see Lexus made out of it, so it is assured they'll catch up. 3.0 turbo I6, RWD + AWD and we have the IS350 that Lexus should have made. It wouldn't surprise me if Lexus was also behind the development of the new Mazda 6, it would actually be pretty cool if that made it into the Lexus lineup somehow.

Hey Kirk, Mazda UK have just announced they are no longer selling diesel versions of the Mazda 6 here. Not sure if this is just the current version of it or if it will extended to the new rwd version. Looks like Mazda are starting to tow dirty diesel line. I’m still looking forward to a rwd phev 6 cyl version.
Just wondering?? Is the infotainment screen not a touchscreen when stationary or under 5mph considering this has the older infotainment software?? Love Mazda!!
Still waiting for the wagon/shooting brake version. I have a Mazda3 and basically the automatic (D mode) is the eco mode. It shifts the car so that you save gas. If you really want to keep at a higher rpm you need to put it in (M mode). If I do I would keep it at around 3000 to 4500 rpm since it has the peak torque there. Never redline it though. And driving a Mazda3 in M mode in Shenandoah National Park is one of the lifetime experience. Trust me.

I'm the proud owner of a 2015 Mazda 6 GT finished in Reflex Blue Mica, the rarest color available on these 3rd generation models. It's been a really great car to me, literally all I do is put gas in it and do scheduled maintenance every 7,500 miles.
I got a 2018 Signature last year, one of the last ones leftover on the lot and got it for 9K below MSRP! It's a hell of a lot of car for 27K, that's for sure! Could've gotten a 2019, but didn't want to pay 7-8k extra for power folding mirrors and updated badges :P
Had they gone with AWD, I would have considered this awhile ago (or RWD). Right now though, I have my eye on the 3 Turbo. Maybe picking one of those up next month.
That depends on the weather conditions. In the CX-9 it is not noticeable especially in cooler months. In the hot summer months you may see a slight decrease due to heat through the intercooler. Oh, on regular its 227hp and 310 torque lbs.
Great review. The styling is epic. One thing that is'nt epic is the info screen that sticks up out of the dash . They could have integrated the screen INTO the dash but they did'nt bother. It's a little disapointing.
No relation to the subject of this review, but Lexus snuck in the 2021 model year RC F on their website yesterday with no fanfare. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, heated electrochromic exterior mirrors, and a memory driver’s seat which were before "available" are now standard. Additionally, Intuitive Parking Assist is now included in the Premium Package. It appears maybe a slight redesign of the steering wheel trim? And now finally equipped with Android Auto the base price jumped almost a $1,000 from last years model. But because of the shuffle of features, a 2021 Premium Package Build comes out only 3 or 4 hundred dollars more than a 2020 with the same equipment. Looking forward to test driving a 2021 RC F.
I love the review, but it had too many short clips (one after another) in one place in the beginning (on my taste). Try to mix them with longer cuts more, just like you mix dynamic and static once. But I'm not a specialist, so I can be talking B.S here. Anyways, it was overall a great and professional review (IMHO). Keep at it and keep on improving. And I gotta say that your B rolls are much smoother and better than in the MX5 review.
Mazda needs more dealership locations. I think that prevents their sales more than anything else. The 6 is a nice looking sedan inside and out. However, Mazda should have offered this turbo model with AWD.
You must use 93 octane to really wake this engine up in the upper rev range. Mazda published the power curves using 87 verse 93 and it makes a big difference in the upper rev range to use that extra octane.
What’s really odd here in Ny is the availability of Mazda dealers. If you find one they usually share it jointly with another . And they get the dark corner of it. They don’t put money into dealerships around here, that’s for sure .
Mazda 6 is still harshly bumpy then 😄 Travelling in the back seat on multi-hundred km road trips is not recommended. Sorry Mazda, the cabin quietness is impressive, as is the minimal body roll and resulting stability on the road, but from experience I can say that the Mazda 6 is not a comfortable car for long journeys 😄 Hopefully Mazda will fix this with the next platform redesign
This design still looks fresh though and has not aged. 2022 will be the next 6 all new with the inline 6 skyactiv in rwd. Initial indications is that it will have more than 300hp
I took a test drive of the normal 2019 mazda6 and I loved the interior especially with the leather but it felt so slow and heavy and it just wouldn’t move when I needed it to

Does the right-side rear door make the same metallic noise, given that cars typically only have the gas cap on one side?
those are some sexy flip flops, you must be the first person to review a car in flip flops xD
Haha getting ready to move back to FL next summer
@@KirkKreifels I moved back from SoCal to Tampa in January. It's affordable but it's also so hard to breathe this hot damp air. I miss SoCal weather 😭
I do like the Nap review, I haven’t tried it myself w my 2010 6 but it is nice to know.
awesome camera work! review and quality!
Thank you!
Job well done Kirk! Thoughts about using soft background music?
I'm open to it but it makes some people turn away at the same time
@@KirkKreifels oh ok.
Did you try it on 87 Octane gas? Just curious how much performance you lose.
That depends on the weather conditions. In the CX-9 it is not noticeable especially in cooler months. In the hot summer months you may see a slight decrease due to heat through the intercooler. Oh, on regular its 227hp and 310 torque lbs.
Plz make a video of the cx5
My man going Mazda. I`m Mazda 6 2016 touring 2.5L owner. I love it.... only rear wheel drive Mazda 6 can be better.
You say you get a lot for the money, I must of missed something how much does it cost? $$$$. Nice review, I like your drone shots.
Ok, caught it at the end 36000
11:30 Does the engine have cup holders?🤣
Thoughtful review, I agree about the backend. Curious about the paddle shifters and driving in manual mode?
There's a reason I didn't mention the paddle shifters and manual mode --- they're forgettable lol
Thanks for the review! Very informative
Thank you!
Great review. The styling is epic. One thing that is'nt epic is the info screen
that sticks up out of the dash . They could have integrated the screen INTO
the dash but they did'nt bother. It's a little disapointing.
7.1 with no brake torquing i believe it will hit 60 in 6.5 with brake torquing. that aside this car is phenomenal
I want the fog lights!!!!! Looks better at night
Good looking car. Good looking guy! WIN!
Thanks mate! Beginning is quick-paced to get people attention :)
Smoother? Great! I'm getting better over time.
@@KirkKreifels It's pretty professional as is, but don't stop there and show tham how it's really done.
Tbh, I think my next ride will be a Mazda6
Are you going to give it a kirkscore??? 😁😁😁
dugscore! great joke!!!!
I prefer the Penguin Score...
GTS trim is Faaaaaantastic 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Mazda needs more dealership locations. I think that prevents their sales more than anything else. The 6 is a nice looking sedan inside and out. However, Mazda should have offered this turbo model with AWD.
Would love for you to review the K5.
Who said this car was faster and better than the Camry?
You must use 93 octane to really wake this engine up in the upper rev range. Mazda published the power curves using 87 verse 93 and it makes a big difference in the upper rev range to use that extra octane.
Since I didn't fill this tank, I'm not sure what octane was in there...87 would be my guess
I'm waiting for the next generation 6.... RWD, v6
how is leg space!?
At 6'1" I had comfortable room in the rear seat behind my driving seat position
4:25
So that's what the NAP-pa leather is
Would be awesome if you could review the CX-30! 😃 Maybe even the Skyactiv-X engine somehow?
which one has the best riding quilty the 6 or the Mazda 3?
I haven't reviewed the 3 yet, but more than likely the 6
Kirk Kreifels is it better than Toyota Camry?
How do you rate it vs Camry or Sonata?
I'll be reviewing the sonata in a few weeks!
What’s really odd here in Ny is the availability of Mazda dealers. If you find one they usually share it jointly with another . And they get the dark corner of it. They don’t put money into dealerships around here, that’s for sure .
You’re blaming Mazda for NY’s tendency to smash things together into what space is left?
Get outta Here 😛
NextLevel Journey I have no clue what your saying. I’m simply stating the dealers are sparse here. They don’t lease well in Ny at all
Kirk, I think your body is in Nebraska, but your mind is in Florida. Flip flops in October guy....?
100% true
Mazda 6 is still harshly bumpy then 😄 Travelling in the back seat on multi-hundred km road trips is not recommended. Sorry Mazda, the cabin quietness is impressive, as is the minimal body roll and resulting stability on the road, but from experience I can say that the Mazda 6 is not a comfortable car for long journeys 😄 Hopefully Mazda will fix this with the next platform redesign
Hey! I am in the Omaha area as well and I drive one of these. If you'd want to collaborate sometime I would be down!
Nintendo minute is never a minute
Awesome!!!!
♥️♥️♥️ MAZDA ❤️❤️❤️
You need to do more honest reviews! Good stuff
Thanks!
We done came up 👍
2012 exterior.....8 years and no refresh. Should be a new exterior every 5 years. As you mentioned rear should be similar to CX 5, CX 30, 3 Sedan
This design still looks fresh though and has not aged. 2022 will be the next 6 all new with the inline 6 skyactiv in rwd. Initial indications is that it will have more than 300hp
RWD inline 6 with a 6 speed manual..... SOLD. No manual.....Pass
The more gears that exists the more issues it seems they have.
320 lb ft torque, not 310
I took a test drive of the normal 2019 mazda6 and I loved the interior especially with the leather but it felt so slow and heavy and it just wouldn’t move when I needed it to
Did you drive the turbo model?
Too bad they never made a MazdaSpeed version.
