This showed up in my recommendations and I just wanted to comment to boost visibility. The way you were able to modify how much was ablated off to reveal different colored reflections is super super cool. I wonder if you could use it to try to make an rgb image into one.
There's no reason something like cermark wouldn't work, I'd worry about burning through the paint and reflecting the beam directly back into the diodes though.
There is a product that is basically a water slide decal (similar to what you find with model making). It comes in different colors and can be applied to various surfaces. I've done ceramic, glass and some metals.

I'm using a blue diode laser. I wonder if I put a coat of black tempora paint on it, will I get a good result? That disc would make a cool clock face.
