A couple things: -The new SSG is similar to the ones the Marauders use, sporting the same lever action and flintlock features, but Doom Slayer’s version appears to be larger. -It likely this game will have the strongest demons yet. I surmised this due to the appearance of the imp. Since Doom Guy has been terrorizing the demons for so long at this point, they’ll be at their physical peaks to try and match him. The demons in 2016 and Eternal are much weaker in comparison since Doom Slayer was in the sarcophagus for so long that the demons started to degrade over time. -One of the super heavy demons of this game will likely be the Baalgar demons. One of these demons was modified and turned into a Cyberdemon in 2016 so it’s like we’ll get to fight a couple in their natural state.
the way the slayer spins the super shotgun makes me think hes swinging the shotgun down to an ammo belt to reload the shotgun with one hand and once the shells are in the gun can auto load them honestly i like the animation for it
Also the shells don't have much of a visible brass base to withstand the force of the round's powder's charge. I think the shells only hold the projectile and the action of the lever primes the hammer and fills the powder pan with propellant stored inside the stock of the gun or another compartment.
From what I saw in the trailer, it looks like ID is trying to bring back that dark gritty tone set in Doom 2016, but with so much more added to it. Oh man, the hype is immense!
The John Romero era aesthetics were full of castles, cathedrals, candles, and cages. Brutalist Gothic architecture and comically absurd evil (like Daisy the Rabbit being meticulously prepared on a pike to upset Doomguy) are in the series' DNA. Seeing that tone with upgraded graphics is sheer fanservice.
9:10 so when the shield returns it clips a guy just of centre of the screen and you see a glitch that you don’t see at normal speed, for probably like a frame or two (were probably talking millisecond) he vanishes and is replaced with a new image of the same guy cut in two and flying apart blood spraying as guesses out.
With the Imp looking like the classic Imp, I'm excited to see the Baron of Hell. Probably gonna look something like The Gladiator, except red and throws green fireballs.
11:56 the only thing that stops me from saying Hebeth is because Samuel Hayden talks to the Slayer as if the slayer has no knowledge of it's existence and even says "The Lost City of Hebeth, this was from before your time with the sentinels"
Finally someone else noticed the floating city is related to the Wraiths. I deduced this based on the differences in architecture from both Maykrs and Sentinels, this is designed as something else entirely and the figure up top has striped wings on top of a weird head. Great analysis overall.
The game is so metal that when I went to rewatch the trailer on my browser I had to sign in to confirm age because it could be “too inappropriate” We are so back.
So I guess that's why we couldn't us those mechs in Doom Eternal because if this game takes place before Eternal then in one of the battles that the Slayer was in the mech got destroyed. Hope that makes sense.
I loved all of this but the skull shredder flak canon was my favorite part. That and the dragon. And his cape. And the lever action shotgun. And everything else really. I thought it was weird that the morning star didn't cause any visible damage to that one dude but prolly just due to this being a demo. Also I'm guessing there will be some form of magic too since that's a pretty common trope of medieval settings. Might be how they explain the one handed reloads and his boomerang shield?
There are inconsistencies in the lore. Hayden does say that, but in the codex it says the city was lost during the crusades which the Slayer was apart of.
Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if Bethesda went for a semi-open world approach with this. I don't mean a massive GTA-style open world, but more like a partial open world similar to God of War, Ragnarok, or God of War 2018, where each map has its own open world section.
I assume the shield is a new addition meant to substitute the arm blade from Eternal. Glory kills are gonna be chainsaw-madness with the shield! You mentioned that maybe upon throwing the shield, you might have to press a button to call it back, like the Leviathan Axe in GOW or Thor's hammer/Cap's shield. I imagine you can also line enemies up between you and the shield and kill them by recalling it. If so, that is gonna be so OP. Edit: OMG! I didn't notice it sawing enemies in half when I first watched the trailer. It is gonna be OP! R.I.P. arm blade. You can rest now.
I'm guessing the projectiles being kinda slow is similar to how they were in OG doom. Especially since this game seems more grounded. It looks like you need to dodge and use cover similar to the original games (cover being your shield). Should be interesting.
The flying brains are probably arachnotrons without the cybernetic enhancements. I have a pretty good hunch that in this game you'll be able to kill the arachnobrain (the organic creature) attached to the spider arachnid prosthetic, and the floating ones will replace the dead one, taking over the cyber spider legs again and again, until you finally kill the last one, instead of having a different arachnotron spawn everytime you kill the one present. Here, quoting the in game description of the Arachnotron; "While its actual body exhibits only limited mobility, the oddly cerebral qualities of the Arachnotron make it a prime candidate for the impulse-controlled prosthetic frame that it now permanently inhabits.'' Also, the new super shotgun being a lever action means its most likely inspired by the Winchester model 1887. This paricular shotgun has a tube magazine that can carry 5 shells + 1 in the chamber. Reloads have never been required to perform in any of Doom's Magazine fed weapons, at least not that i can remember. So either we're gonna follow that system, or we'll have a different animation for an actual reload once we fire the gun 6 times=12 rounds since it has two barrels and fires 2 shots at the once. If the latter is the case, i can see the animation not following a realistic depiction of the model 1887 in which you have to load a round at a time through the falling block breech. I see them chosing an animation in which you swap the entire double tube magazine, much similar to the PP-19 bizon or the pp90M1 submachineguns, although these are fed by helical magazines, but the process would be very similar. That way the animation would be faster and more dynamic in contrast to conventional shotgun reload animations.
I think with the shotgun he's just reloading with one hand, less easy to see in first person, but if you look at how Dante reloads his shotgun in dmc I think it's similar to that
With the super shotgun. The shells are ejected after the blast and he recocks it similar to the older lever action shotguns. It may operate on mag tubes…so I wonder if there is a longer reload mechanic when you empty the tubes.
10:35 so the Dread Knight has orange tubing (argent energy?) and this Hell Knight is powered by something green? toxic waste? blood swamp origins? idk.
I think the flow will be one of the core weapons inside the weapon. Will you’ll be able to switch between the flower and all the rest? Think you’ll be very interesting to see all the combos we could do with the flail shield and rest of the weapons
that skull gun thing that spreads skull fragments horizontally? That's probably the Sentinel's Unmakyr. The Unmakyr in Doom Eternal has been made with Urdak tech, as Samuel Hayden/Seraphim said
