Thank you for taking the time to show all the details of burning in the tubes and explaining what you are doing. Super enjoyed it and looking forward to next Sunday's installment!!
Yes! I know a guy that knows nothing about welding, but this is what I watch you for. Oops. I like the details and explanations for the ways and reasons why. Thank you Kevin, and it might not be too silly to pitch a "summer camp" to some of us newbs that are truly interested in the skills without the full blown school costs.
Talking about the “flat face” on the end of that tube at the end… People act like welding is supposed to be like body work… They don’t realize if you were to have a razor thin edge there instead, that is now effectively how thick the tube is… but they do it cause it’s smooth and looks prettier… Having that nice square edge now makes it a corner joint effectively, and you have full penetration on both pieces of metal at their full thickness… = much stronger lol. Much satisfying to watch someone else endure the same pain I do lol. Good job Kevin! 👍🤘👏
My son is taking an interest in welding and your ability to explain your reasoning behind your techniques is awesome!! Side note....Maybe there needs to be some version of a "BUICK BOY" T-shirt depending on the outcome of the Ranger Race.
I feel like the name of the car has to be something that plays off Soccer Mom, so in my head it’s Dad Joke. Either way, I love this project. Olds power, ground up chassis fab, and I always feel like I learn something new. Happy Sunday Kevin!
Sir, this is an excellent how too series! Knowing whats needed to build a race car of higher levels makes the sport way more engrossing! Someone needs to do this with top fuel cars from bear shop floor to fully assembled vehicle.
Thanks Kevin I always enjoy all the detail of your tig welding. It gives a real understanding of what it takes to build a high end race car. And why it cost what it does.
@@shawnknight421 403s will come apart at much more than 650hp. There is not enough meat in the block. This block is THE best Oldsmobile small block out there!!
Congratulations on Lee's Saunders Viper winning at Sebring. Your build ran great without you babysitting it. Back to the " Olds Cool" ,, I was just admiring the Great Welds. . My first car was a '70 Cutlas .
Another great update Kevin thank you for sharing once again I was a certified welder for 47 years And tig was my favorite 😊 The old cutlass is looking good 😊
Love watching your videos Kevin! I'm in radio and I have a face for it😂. I do understand that there are weeks when you just don't have the time to work on your own projects.
You should do a big bang on a stock 403. Just how many pounds of boost will one take before it scatters and what will scatter first. Everyone says the mains in the Block are weak. You know you want to find a 1978 olds 98 for a daily😂
There are a lot of variables to consider on this in-depth of a build and it's cool to see how fast you make amazing progress. The how-to clips were great as well!
Any word on the "tricycle for a popsicle" shirts? No rush, was just curious is all. Thanks for bringing us along. I'm sure all the filming, editing, and uploading is quite the hassle. I'm sure I'm not the only one that appreciates all the effort you put in to making these vids. Thanks Kevin!!
@KSRPerformanceFabrication Kevin, if you come to Australia at the beginning of October you can join us at Mt Panorama for the Bathurst 1000. We camp all week, lots of room, food provided. Been doing it for a decade now. Come have some fun on the mountain
Forward progress is ALWAYS a good thing especially for you as busy as the shop is. Keepem coming Kev👍🏼Love all ur content too !! Aluminum removable belly pan ???
Glad to see you back on the Cutlass dropping dimes. All the tubes level on the bottom, I`m thinking skid plate for protection and more structural strength overall. Have fun, looking forward to your next video.
I’ve never welded in my life. But I feel like I could after watching you weld so many times. I know that’s not true but I definitely feel like I’ve learned a lot from you. Would love to try someday.
once you done with tackwelding the whole frame together you probably should mount the whole thing to a rotissery for finishwelding , would make you more comfortable weldin / gives you nicer welds you might be able to use 2 engine stands for that with some judious adding of extra boxsection small bit of trivia : porsche when it used to race cars with tubeframes actually had a schradervalve somewhere in the tube frame , the reason for that was that they welded the frame airtight so if there was a crack in the frame it wouldnt hold pressurized air when they hooked it up to a compressor , it allso made it eazier to find the crack with a spraybottle and soapy water
Yo Kevin keep teaching. Us noobs want to learn what is what and why. So appreciate the tech build videos. It’s the reason I watch you tube is to learn from good guys and laugh at the Cleetus antics!! Plus son you can drive!!! Great personality and good sense of humor make for a great video so thanks!! Should have been a nova though!!
Jimmy Oakes fab guy Spoon was just talking about drilling holes for the air to have a place to go a couple weeks ago. Good fabricator know their stuff.
In regards to video camera for close up detail, if you have an iPhone from the last 2-3 years you would more than likely be completely fine using that to get up close as opposed to spending money on a secondary camera! I’m sure and newer smart phone(not just iPhone) would be fine honestly
All I can say is ...to me this is fascinating!! Thanks for taking the time to explain what you are doing and why. I have finally figured out I should have kept racing when I was much younger!! (Too danged old now!! LOL) Everything has passed me by...but folks like KSR can take me along for the ride and education!! Thanks Kevin!! Great videos!!
Hey Kevin your Glasses make you look Smart ,some people look funny with Glasses but your Glasses actually make you look Smart, you're lucky, keep up the good work love the channel 👍
Thanks for the update Kevin! Its awesome to see some progress on the Olds, To me half of the joy in the racing community is seeing new builds come together. Thank your sir for the detailed explanation of your welding process. It absolutely makes all the difference in the world for weld strength and I'm sure there will be many people that understand how important that is in the cage rigidity and safety. I'm sure its hard being a business owner but don't go to fast on getting the car running, I wanna see the build content too..lmao!
Thank you ever so much for the details and videoing of your technique ! I'm an old guy self teaching myself to TIG weld and really appreciate the lesson tips and tricks ! The ambidextrous part will have to come after some (Lots) of experience. Love your channel and your content !! Going to pick up some merch ! James

Lolol
Freaking love T-Ray
I thought that the last time haha classic

Side note: Clay sourced Kevin a top fuel engine. That's why the extra support is needed!
14:28 Small diameter bead weld. Sure looks clean.

Thanks Kevin I always enjoy all the detail of your tig welding. It gives a real understanding of what it takes to build a high end race car. And why it cost what it does.
I can’t wait to see that cutlass run with that Oldsmobile motor in it
It’s too bad you couldn’t find a 403 Oldsmobile
@@shawnknight421 403s will come apart at much more than 650hp. There is not enough meat in the block. This block is THE best Oldsmobile small block out there!!
Glad you are getting it done
Smooth plane. Future plans. Hmmm. Carbon fiber floor?
