    Good grief, that seems over complicated but that's the way it is. Good video Tom. It explained a lot.

    To me having to go through so many steps to add transmission fluid is ridiculous engineering! Nice job with the vid series Tom.

      I agree. Put a dipstick on it. Or a fill plug on the top so I can just pour it in lol

    Now you need special service tools, a 10000 dollar scantool, and a subscription to OEM programming service.
    Anybody miss the old days of a funnel, dipstick, and couple quarts of oil yet?

      yeah it cant be simple anymore, over-engineered

      my scan tool was only $499 and you can get the tubes second hand for about $100.

    When filling the dsg box up put an airline on the vent tube gently put air in it with a blow gun with the valve open and you will fill the box up soo quickly :)

    Does the front end have to go into service position or do you just remove the radiator fans & tilt the engine / transmission to remove the mechatronics?

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remove the dog bone mount tilt the engine. Remove the charge tube. That tcm mech falls right out

    I wonder how similar the mechatronics unit is to General Motors TEHCM. When I was a transmission guy I replaced a couple of those that intermittently failed. Bad idea putting a module in such a hot nasty environment.

  • @jamesmccarthy6877
    @jamesmccarthy6877 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you find any visual failures with the old mech? I have a 2012cc in the shop now with a passive sporadic U0101. The gearbox only acts up after a long drive. Key cycle and shifts normal again. I, as well as VW, and another independent have all done testing and have condemned the mech as the failure. The customer still needs more proof

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could not see anything visual. It’s a control module that is submerged in hot fluid. If you have done all your checks. What other proof is needed. Good luck

    im going through this exact problem ive checked everything youve checked before hand to the T and called it as a bad mecha unit, only difference is that now with the new one installed i hooked up odis and STILL have no coms with the TCU and thing you can add to that?

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is the new part actually new or used? I would probably go back and do wiring checks again. It’s possible you got a bad part.

    hello hopefully you can help me out with what's going on with my 2006 Passat 2.0t.. I live on the beach and didn't get my car moved to a high enough level to keep Irma from getting about 2 ft of water in my car it barley got the floor board wet . I moved it right when are dune broke so it was not salt water at the time the water started rising. so 3 days after Irma put 6 ft of water in my house and lost everything once again 😞😞😞 I thought that at least I saved my car. well it drove fine for 3 days besides the battery stated going dead real fast. . I drive it on the 4th day got 2 Mike's down the road and it died. it will turn over fine but will not fire. I took it to an auto shop that I was not familiar with and thet told me it was the ECM and it would be 2.900 to fix I ask him to explain to me which ECM that's when he started living me some b)s I guess he thought since I'm a young woman that I didn't know shit about cars. needless to say I got a second opinion this guy says it was something with the wires he thought and he would be able to fix it for about $500. but when I went to his shop I wasn't for sure if I Was going get my car back it was more like a chop shop. I don't know what to do and I only have one he Left on my AAA I want to get one more options and I have been waiting all ur videos trying to fix it myself but have had o luck

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your going to need a scantool for sure and some basic tools for troubleshooting. Like a multimeter or test light. Did they do any testing or give you any reasoning as to why the ecm would need replaced?

    I'm a student at a technical school in FL. We scanned a 2013 CC 2.0 MPI. It was in an accident and was rebuilt. It's got a ton of intermittent no communication codes across different modules. Is there a particular module that I should attack first? Thanks!!!
    I'm a big fan of your channel btw. Great work!!!

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are intermittent I would clear them and see what comes back. Does the car have any issues other than intermittent codes?

    • @tgoodm1
      @tgoodm1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Positive Lead Diagnostics It runs. Check engine light stays on and the light bulb with exclamation point stays lit. The student is trying get the lights to go out. I am using 16.2 software and I can not communicate directly with the CEM. I can do a full scan though. Should I list all the codes? To give an idea of his frustrations, codes show that there is a problem with fog lights, yet they come on.

    • @tgoodm1
      @tgoodm1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Positive Lead Diagnostics BTW, we cleared them yesterday, and they all came back pretty much.

    • @tgoodm1
      @tgoodm1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: the module for the headlights was all corroded inside. We still have several other intermittent communication codes in engine management. U0155, U0164, U0146, P1433, P0037, P1435. Maybe corrosion issues as well.

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi tom do all the auto transmissions on the vag group have the level checked when the engine is running ?and are they all at 35degress c ? I remember the s class Mercedes I had although not in the vag groom but still German was about 80degs from memory or maybe I'm mistaken thanks Chris

    I dont understand you had changed the tcm in gearbox ????????????

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, the tcm is a part of the mech unit which is inside the trans, basically the valvebody

    I mean does such a design for filling the tranny do anything better than say how a Honda or most other cars do it? I'm genuinely curious. Just seems overly done, but then again I'm not an engineer.

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't know. It seems like a waste of new fluid because you over fill it then drain out the excess. It's just a strange procedure

    • @mastertech8306
      @mastertech8306 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea. German engineering! Also, keep up the good work, brother. I enjoy your vids very much.

    Would you be able to give me an idea of the cost to get it repair (approx)? I am trying to sell my VW CC 2010 with this issues. do you recommend fix and sell it or sell it as it is? I appreciate your suggestion

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Parts and labor are pretty expensive. There is a chance it has a warranty extension. Not sure exactly. And it depends on the condition of the car. If the car if in correct operating condition you can sell it for more. But if it needs a ton of work it may not be worth fixing.

    its not need to reprogram ?????

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the ones I've done, they do not need reprogram. But they do need basic settings done. You can do it with vagcom.

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      this one did not need programmed, the coding was already set up when I checked it, fluid basic settings and a road test and your done

    It's the dumbest way to fill a gearbox, VW have turned into a pile of crap design wise.
