He got 2 years for stabbing a woman in her back, for no reason at all.
Unbelievable!
Not excusing anything but I'm assuming it's due to him being a minor at the time
@@sandrasantamarina88
I understand that,
but the point is that someone who does this,
he is already a serial killer, no matter what his age.
And his diary confirms that.
This was not an accident, or
I'm sorry, I just made a mistake.
Unfortunately that's the law for juveniles in most states 😢
i have always been amazed at some of the things Juveniles can get away with. and also there are A LOT of people in our society that have bleeding hearts and are always willing to make excuses for people.
Wonder how many ppl he really killed
He almost kills a woman at 16 out of the blue and was released at 18 since the system thinks that at 18 all bad traits of a person just disappears. Absolutely ridiculous!
That's not what the system thinks. The juvenile system is different than the adult system and when you're in the juvenile system they have to release you at 18 when you become an adult. The two rarely transfer over. Nobody in the juvenile system believed that bad traits just disappeared. It's best to use common sense when considering such matters.
@@zmoore5555 In some states they can hold you until you are 25 for violent crimes. Oregon, Washington since 2018 or so, California, Utah since around 2020, and a couple other states have laws like that. Tennessee is considering a blended sentencing law that would allow people to remain in the system until they turn 25 and then the court would be able to decide on wether they should be sent to the adult system and sentenced as an adult or released. Having a law like that would have helped in this case since as he needed more than 2 years.
@@zmoore5555You seem triggered for no reason and yet you didn't answer the question of why. Why juveniles are released at 18 regardless of their scary crime like this guy did is the question. The system is clearly not working since juveniles are being released and continue their crime. Why is releasing at 18 a must? Does the system believe they stop committing crimes after their 18th birthday? Why don’t they transfer them to the adult facility?
That's typical of the legal system. A 16 year old mass killer would get less than a 18 year old drug dealer.
So ridiculous.....we are not safe
Even as a teen his MO was stabbing the victims in the back. What a coward.
Not as if stabbing them in the face/facing them would make him 'honorable' or anything... but know what you mean.
Most of these type of people are cowards.

Monster🐊
I recently watched famous castles on Netflix. The barbaric forms of early torture and execution behind castle walls were difficult to listen to so I muted.
But for the monster that savagely took the lives of these innocent victims, I would make an exception.
Being abused is not an excuse to turn into a savage murderer.
It's not an excuse, but it can be a cause.
It’s not an excuse but it’s an explanation. You can’t just abuse someone and think it won’t somehow alter their brain.
It's high time we start understanding the criminal behaviors that inflict longterm/irrefutable damage upon innocent mbrs of society. It is absolutely true, traumas are different and they impact individuals differently. Just bc something falls under the same category, in this instance its child abuse, doesn't mean they are the same. Before folks lose their cool let me be clear, this does NOT in turn "excuse" such behavior. Not even remotely. It's simply a fact that NEEDS to be recognized, that is all. This "lock them up and throw away the key" mentality is not enough to deter such "evil" behavior. It doesn't and shouldn't stop when that cell door closes. We NEED to make the effort to understand more. You cannot begin to come up with preventative measures towards something that we don't better understand. Or rather, refuse to better understand. With knowledge comes power, that is a basic level fact. Ignorance and stubbornness is only perpetuating these unrelenting problems. We can and SHOULD do better for ourselves and each other.

How sad especially to the daughter
@@BFdEutschLaNdI watched numerous crime reports it's hard to watch those but I learn a Lot from them. A man who lives with his teen daughter is highly likely to sexually abuse her.
I can't say much without invading her privacy, but I actually knew his wife personally for many years. I have heard a lot of undisclosed information straight from her mouth and I feel a duty to defend her in this situation.
To start with why she didn't speak up, she actually did. They moved around a few places and she actually made some reports over the years, but none were taken seriously. The confession he made about Brandi was made to her almost 15 years after she was killed and she had genuinely thought he was making up a story. He had done it repeatedly over the years.
She is not "special" as some of you rudely asumed. You don't hear it here, but you can find it in some other podcasts about the show: he tortured her. Viciously. Needles, knives, and so much more. All of the horrible torture gave her a speech impediment from the scarring.
She did not leave her daughter anywhere. When they got a divorce she was unable to make enough money to maintain custody. She was working multiple jobs, but because she had been a stay at home wife and mom for the entire marraige, she had no work experience. The jobs she got were all entry level and the courts didn't think it was a suitable home for the child due to the low income and "absent a lot" mom. She tried desperately to get her back from her ex husband but was stonewalled by the courts until the whole serial killer thing came to light.
She has spent every single year since then desperately attempting to help her daughter, even going so far as to go without food to pay for her daughter's therapy.
(I feel I should note here, she had no reason to believe he was doing anything to their daughter. In fact he doted on her. She believed that her daughter was safe in the home and would never have stayed if she had believed she was in danger. Her first hints that something was off was after the divorce, once she lost custody.)
To the people who are blaming her or accusing her of not preventing this, please take a step back and remember you do not have all the information in this case. The media consistantly portrays her as a conspirator because it makes for good television.
You notice how none of the victim's families have blamed her? It's because they were there to hear her whole testimony. You were not. He had her under his thumb for years. He used threats on her life to keep her from escaping and tortured her for much of their marraige. Just because she's alive, doesn't mean she isn't a victim.
She is a wonderful and strong woman who has endured more than you could ever know. Please be kind. She reads your comments.
(Edited for typos and clarity)
I would also like to add since a lot of the nay-sayers about her seem to think she wasn't under duress during the marriage:
He used her as a stopwall for his behaviors. He blamed her for his actions and told her it was her fault that he had these horrible thoughts and feelings about women. He told her that if she didn't allow him to torture her that he would do it to other women and that would be her fault. She was totally isolated and was actually trying to prevent him from hurting others by staying. She was not aware that he was hurting other women already.
Thank you for sharing this. That’s horrible. What she went through is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry. I hope her and her daughter are getting the help they need. The fact that they let him back on the streets after his first victim at 16 is scary, especially in light of what the mother showed law enforcement. Disgusting. I wish your friend the best.
Thank you for sharing. I’m sure it means the world to her.

I was beat as a child all through my teens. I’m not out here killing people. It’s all an excuse
Many kids who were disciplined like that are fine or seem to be fine, but some are not.
Being abused and/or beaten can trigger mental illness (often those parents are mentally ill themselves) and sadly, sometimes mental illness can lead to violent crimes. Parents can cause a lot of damage to their children.
That being said, I don't think by any means that this should be counted as an excuse - I just wanted to point out cause and effect.
@@MrGrumpyGillsthe vast majority of people who are abused don’t go on to commit murders though. Upbringing affects one’s mentality but free will still exists and he had the ability to choose not to commit the heinous crimes he did.
It doesn't take the majority to commit insane crimes due to a poor upbringing. It just takes a few for us to realize that the abuse we put on children, as adults, can cause some real damage to certain kids. We act as though these shouldn't be excuses, but when a kid commits horrible crimes we all say "where were the parents?" And as soon as those f*cked up kids become adults, we forget all about the horrible upbringing. It's an interesting thing we do as humans.
I'm bipolar and I refuse to let my situation rule me, I was told from a very long time ago that I'm accountable by my dad and what I do is going to be my punishment, I've had my tail tied in knot's and I wear it now as a fashion statement, besides I'm a huge fan of Susan B Anthony, when she was arrested for trying to vote, she was going to be let go because she was a woman and she said I don't want special treatment I want to be treated as a equal. I feel the same way now playing the victim wears out so fast.
Someone give @fordcntry09 an award for not killing anyone.
The wife is the hero of this story for agreeing to testify against that sadistic POS. Doing so had to be incredibly frightening for her and I commend her courage. I hope she and her daughter are able to heal and move forward.
Lol the wife who saved herself from the monster & left a helpless child with him.
She definitely a hero.
And nvr reported to police that he murdered and dismembered a child at that! Why would you not say something? And then you let your child live with that monster? I can have some compassion for what she endured but it is a HUGE step to call her a hero. Had she reported what he did to that poor child, those women might be alive today. Not to mention, had they nvr found the man, he'd still be walking the streets killing people. She knew he was a murderer and did nothing. She pretty much had to testify. That's no hero.
Why these killers ask to be shown mercy is beyond me..when they showed none to their victims. R.I.P to these beautiful ladies.

So sickening to see this evil serial killer blaming it all on his "childhood trauma." And it is more sickening to see psychologists are behind all these blame games, creating all kinds of intellectual-sounding names for the crime. Get real. What he did was evil and he needs to get punished for it.
I disagree.
Defining a human act as "evil" oversimplifes the complex factors that contribute to criminal behavior. By exploring the psychological and environmental conditions that lead to such acts, psychologists aim to understand and address the root causes rather than labeling individuals as inherently "evil." This approach allows for a more comprehensive understanding of human behavior and the potential for prevention and intervention, rather than simply passing judgment. 😊
@@SalznPfeffer658 The reality is that humans have biases and often adopt one narrative that wants nothing to do with why someone committed the crime or what led them to become a serial killer. Most often the statements are: Ooh well many people get abused as children and they don’t become serial killers. While that is true, it gives no room to accept that many serial killers have had extremely complex traumas, and many have also started taking drugs and alcohol, which further deteriorated their mind and ability to control their behavior, emotions and responses towards others. Not everyone becomes a serial killer, but not everyone has the biological ( genetic), and environmental conditions to bring about their disturbing behaviors. The human animal is hard to fathom., it’s quite complex.

Good to know that modern DNA analysis can compensate for shoddy police work: the guy was already on the suspect list and nobody cared to find the similarities between the murders and his prior activity.
Already on the suspect list - & with a police record for attacking women.

Yes, abuse can cause mental illness and violent behaviour. However I don't buy the defendant's claims what his mother allegedly did to him, I think he made that up to make his insanity plea sound believable - he couldn't deny being the killer after all, since his DNA was on the victims.
Also, since the mother is already dead she can't defend herself from these claims anymore.

Glad to see a Brandy Myers segment being included alongside Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas. I can't even imagine the heartbreak and loss their families have experienced. I was also hoping that Adrienne Salinas would be acknowledged in the episode as well. 19 year old Adrienne disappeared around 5 a.m. on June 15, 2013, in Tempe, Arizona, while walking alone. Her partial remains were found months later in a wash. Bryan Patrick Miller's friend (Keene Azariah) has stated in several interviews that he and Bryan both attended (separately) a mutual friend's house warming party (pig roast) the same night of Adrienne's disappearance. The party took place only a mile away from Adrienne's last seen location. Keene also mentioned that the location of Adrienne's discovered remains was also the same wash location (Weekes Wash) that he and Bryan explored during a treasure hunt in 2012. The police confirmed those reports to be accurate, but its been several years since I've seen anything substantial regarding the case, and whether or not it will be linked to Bryan Patrick Miller. There doesn't appear to be any evidence, and his legal defense is that he supposedly doesn't remember the horrible murders he has committed. Who really knows, but it seems to be too much of a coincidence, given what we now know about Bryan Patrick Miller.
I was hoping they had connected him to her as well - I read the article that his friend had written the the New Times after Miller was arrested, and how he thinks there's a likely connection to Adrienne. I really hope they can solve her case someday. She was the same age as my daughter and disappeared just down the street. I check on her case now and then to see if they've found anything new, but I think Miller's friend is right in thinking he's involved.
I too was hoping they'd not forget that sweet little angel
I just looked up her name, I remember part of her story 😢
How convenient, he never remembers the events where he klled, only the ones that the victims are alive🙄
People Magazine Investigates did a great episode about Adrienne. It's so blatantly obvious Miller killed her but I don't think the police and prosecutors care enough. Even 48 Hours couldn't be bothered to mention her.
The cold blooded murderer blames his mother.....
One definitive link serial offenders have is a disfunctional relationship with their mothers when they were children.
What a sick evil monster blaming his childhood trauma for killing those girls and what is sicker is his defence lawyer rubbing his back when he was sentenced to death.
I don't buy the "abused by my mother" claim. He can say anything he wants, his mom is dead. She can't defend herself. Also, did he ever tell his wife Amy that his mom abused him? Probably not, since his mom didn't.
It's a old trick to come up with some tale of parental abuse - designed to excuse & explain their horrific crimes.

100 percent he wanted to hide in plain sight. He was weak small and scared but also had some sick bravado.
yeah, Ted Bundy has agreed.
@@stfuplsok You’re absolutely correct. Hell Bundy was downright cute.
Also reminds me of Gacy’s Pogo the clown.
Angela's Mother and Melanie's Sister's statements were so strong and heart breaking, the loss of people in this way is devastating.
Omgosh his daughter lived in that nightmare. Had sad for her.
I’m 41 now, and was 10 when this happened. This happened right next to where I grew up. It was crazy!
I never heard of this psychopath.
@@LynxStarAuto you've been under a rock, obviously
I'm 37, also from Phx. Dang we're good! Do D Backs!!!
So sad. Stay strong.
@@bettynuggz You look like you got beaten with one 😊
A psychopat never takes responsability for anything. He’s blamed on his mother who wasn’t even alive to tell her side of the story. Disgusting.
Thank you 48 Hours for uploading full episodes! You’re the best!!
The look on the experienced judge's face as she has to sit and listen to horrors no one should ever have to hear about says it all.
I'm British, and I appreciate there's a big cultural difference when it comes to Halloween and what's considered fun or acceptable, and I'm not here to offend anyone, you do you. But honestly, was NOBODY horrified by that police car covered in blood?? Because it made my stomach flip.
Excellent point. Too many people nowadays are not horrified by much, I can tell you. There's a whole groupie flock of people fascinated by zombies and dead people and the gruesomeness goes on and on. I think it's sick and revolting personally. All of it.
A car covered in fake blood is common and popular in the us
His mother isn't there to defend those lies! He was looking for a out. A shame he didn't get charged for stabbing Melissa and believed she tried to rob him.
Didn't you hear where they said the abuse from his mom was proved? Something had to turn him into the monster he is!
The Phoenix Police had his name in their files but never bothered to check his background. They had over 20 years to go through their suspect list.
What mom , knowing her husband is a monster, let's their child live with that monster?
Exactly. WTF is wrong with her?
Did y'all hear her talking? She sounded very "special" if you catch my meaning.
lets* their
@@film79Oh yeah, my friend ;-)
The courts gave him custody because she didn’t earn enough money to support herself. Money.
The police could have solved this by checking past stabbings, unbelievable when u hear of past crimes
Such a captivating but tragic case..these women seemed so full of life and promise and then to be taken away in an instant from their families and friends in such a brutal fashion and at such a young age it’s so hard to imagine what their loved ones had to endure. I hope both Angela and Melanie are able to rest in eternal peace now.
I love 48 hours and I love Peter v. Sant! Greetings from Germany!
I’m at the beginning but the idea of being literally hunted down by a man dressed like this would make the murders SO MUCH WORSE. The fear level. And if he didn’t wear his costume while he did it he is still a clown. Truly a weak small little pathetic man taking these beautiful vibrant women away. He wanted their light. His aura is dim and ugly. These girls radiated beauty and good energy.
Yeah coming at them from behind each time and stab5ubg them in the back shows his cowardice
He didn’t wear his costume during the mvrders.
He wasn't wearing that outfit when he was committing those murders. SMH. 🤦🏻♂️
Comic Con Nuts!
Detective Schwartzkopf is a genius 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾This monster should’ve been locked up forever after that first stabbing.
Nonthing beats science let's be honest 💪 science always win no matter how long it takes
Best crime show ever!!! Especially with Peter van Sant!!
The killer at one point considered calling himself The Canal Stabber, but upon further reflection decided that the Zombie Hunter would be less obvious.
He needs to give closure to other victim's family. He's already on death row after all
Hiding in plain sight????? Dressing up like that with blood on a cop car is a huge Las Vegas sized sign /red flag!!!
You forgot the psycho/stabby part; while driving in a police car.
And there is no hiding part either, just in plain sight.
Blame the mother…smh
Why do they believe his mother did all that to him? She isn't around anymore and the POS is a liar too. I'm glad the judge didn't see through his BULSH. Prayers for yhe friends and families of the poor girls who died at the heinous hands of that monster!
You're glad the judge didn't see through his bs? What do you mean? Did I miss something
I wonder if any family member testified supporting his claims because he used to blame his wife for his actions too…
Please be careful ladies, there are some seriously sick Individuals out there. Shouldn't have to say this, it's common sense, but please take a friend if you go walking or riding.
The sick person would take them both.
@@redrumhumExactly, he sounds like a sicko himself.
Instead of telling women to be careful, tell men to be better.
His mom isn’t here to defend herself this murderer can say anything he wants
What a coward, blaming everything on his mom and she’s not even alive to say her side of the story. A fvcking monster.
Rest in peace to all of his victims that died and the ones that survived, I hope y’all can heal🙏🏾
Well done to everyone particularly the cold case unit and all those people who give DNA to ancestry websites (that includes me). It is a difficult issue - I read the terms and conditions, I considered the pros and cons and I went ahead and gave mine.
🔥🔥🔥 Best intro music in all of true crime genre
Why do I feel he has more victims? 😬
What makes this case so chilling is how young he was when he began these atrocities. May their souls rest in peace and sorry to the victims families, having to wait so long but I’m so grateful for the present day advanced science research to catch these monsters! 💔😣🙏🏻
The tumb nail is what spent me I was like wtf 😳 kinda case is this about to be
I was in JR high when these happened and we lived about a block over from the East part of the canal, we never went walking on the canal alone.
Did anybody catch the older woman and the younger girl that he killed look like they could be sisters or mother and daughter and then the one that they couldn’t improve the other younger girl with the blonde hair and the glasses look like them too and then his ex-wife look like them too it’s almost like he specifically picked out people that looked like each other because they all resembled his mother nobody ever mentioned that one
Please make sense
😂😂😂^^
His mother is dead she can't defend herself,
Zombie hunter thought everybody was a zombie 🫥
👎
Yes, of course - always blame the mother! How convenient that this particular one is dead and unable to refute his claims about her.
I have always considered a bunch of adults who spend their time and resources dressing up as fantasy creatures infantile and stunted. My opinion in that matter has been hardened after watching this
We have a large segment of childish adults in our society.
Video never does our sunsets any justice. The colors are much more vibrant, its absolutely amazing!!
If I was walking in the dark and came face-to-face with someone dressed like that zombie hunter… That would give me a heart attack and scare the begeezus out of me! 😳 Not being able to see someone’s face and just wonder who is under there is so so creepy and I have no doubt whomever dresses like that enjoys scaring people! 😑
Buy a gun, learn how to handle and use it, and get a concealed handgun license. Don’t roll the dice that you won’t be a victim. Be proactive with your self protection. All the women in my family carry guns. Two of them have had close calls and had to use them. Never had to fire, but they would have.. luckily just drawing it and leaving no doubt they would use it was enough in both cases.
I like the way the judge handled the case.
She is a wise judge
Serial killers always seem to be soft spoken and charming, really creepy. But that attempt to blame his mother was lame, you can’t create a serial killer they’re just born that way.
Someone with that history, that much history, didn't just stop with the canal murders...
He almost certainly killed a young woman named Adrienne Salinas.
Another great episode that shows how great 48 Hours is.
They didn't mention another victim. Great work.
I sincerely hope all of his victims' families and the family of the killer are able to find peace in this lifetime.
I have also been through severe PTSD inducing events as a child and young adult. Still not out here murdering or harming other folks. I agree with the judge's sentence.
His wife should be ashamed - to have that knowledge and not report it.
What makes it even more disgusting is the fact she’s a mother of a daughter herself.
Exactly. And she let her daughter live in that hell hole.
And to leave their child with him? WTF is wrong with her?
I agree with the previous comments. I imagine she was afraid of him, which I understand, but we must take action when people have been murdered and a child is involved.
Thank God they got that daughter away from him. Shame that it wasn't until she was almost an adult. :(
Probably too late. That house was horrible for a child to be in.
How did he get custody is what I want to know? How or why would her mother allow her daughter to be with this guy? Knowing what she knows ?
The judge that let Brian out of juvie needs to be held accountable for the murders!
Agree!
He turned 18 and thus had to be released.
It wasn’t the judges fault they legally could only keep him locked up until 18!
Blame people who vote for politicians who support light sentences
I'd say the jury who acquitted him.after he stabbed Melissa made judgment.
I propose that he became the Zombie Hunter in an attempt to slay the ghosts of those he had murdered.
It might not be for you but for me it's hard to put myself in his twisted mind.
He blamed his mother for his act... The mother is long gone, what can be proved? May he repent in prison. May God have mercy on him.
I am sick and tired of people using their bad, abusive childhood as an excuse to do terrible things. I had perhaps one of the WORST childhoods Imaginable, and I am a good person, and have NEVER committed a crime. I simply do NOT want to put others, especially my children to what I went through. There is simply no excuse....
Sick and fkn tired of monsters blaming their upbringing on committing inhumane crimes which is no excuse or reason WATSOEVER 😤
It’s time we as a society stop blaming our parents for everything and start teaching people that no matter what kind of childhood you’ve had we alone still need to take responsibility for our actions. Society needs to stop thinking we can rehabilitate these kinds of people especially kids!!!
Well if you're not nurturing and just beat your child then its parents fault.
I'm definitely not talking about this case, I dont believe the mom tortured him, I think she disciplined him. I'm talking in general, study shows babies need to be nurtured or the child can't feel empathy or compassion. This is how sociopaths are made.
@@peacelove7437 I’m not talking about abuse but social media considers breathing wrong around your kids abusive and grown people who didn’t like boundaries being set love calling it abuse! And then they go on to be like this guy and blame it on the parents.
@peacelove7437 No, not entirely, people are born with their own wiring, and are shaped by many experiences. Many people get abused and don't dismember others.
From Zombie Hunter to the literal Walking Dead.
The best crime show.
Nope, clown 🤡

I remember these gals. I was about 11 when this happened. In my family castles and coasters and metro center mall were off limits unless one adult was with us and during the daytime hours. As every metro kid knew GET HOME WHEN THE STREET LIGHTS CAME ON
Celeste you are a warrior. It is crazy they say being stabbed doesn't always feel as a sharp pain like you would think. Thank you for facing him down and identifying him.
