  • A step by step how to corner balance a car with coil over suspension using scales. I show how to properly weigh the car and give tips on setting up the suspension for equal balance. Adjusting the coil over suspension is a crucial part of making a car handle correctly and this video is a must do for anyone changing their suspension.

    When I was apart of Porsches GT3 Club Program. We had steel stands we made in house that would bolt to the hubs, and matched the weight, and height of the wheels so we could make easy corner balance adjustments on the fly without having to lift the car and take the wheels off Everytime.
    It may be something worth looking into if you find yourself doing this alot.

    Legit! Gorgeous car. I've never seen one built without lambo doors and spinning rims. The public at large took this car for granted. I've loved the idea of a "Stealth VR4" for well over 2 decades now. Lol

    Great video man. I'm Jeremy from Facebook, was talking to you last night. Always thought corner balancing was a little more involved. But appears pretty straightforward. Basically have everything laid out how you want it then adjust the coilovers to even it all out. Btw absolutely love the blue and the fact that it's a stealth. I'm building a 94 3000gt vr4 to look like a 93 stealth rt. And I plan on painting the car true blue pearl with white accents throughout.

      Thanks! It really is an easy process, just time consuming jacking up the car and taking the wheel off every time. It helps to have the coil overs measured even left to right when installed as well. At least it's a good starting point.
      Very cool to hear about your car, it'll be fun to watch it progress.

    Looks good. Am I correct - I believe you need to disconnect the front and rear sway bar end links before corner balancing to eliminate any preload.

    • @DoesItTrack

      It should be unloaded as the car is flat already.

    Hope this helps, Spring preload to jack the cross weight, once done you use the lower clevis to set the ride height equal, the doors need to be closed while setting the cross weights.

  • @gregrogers275

    Just to clarify, you lowered the shock collar on the right front to effectively raise the ride height in that corner and distribute corner weight to it?

    • @DoesItTrack
      @DoesItTrack  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You pretty much got it. Trying to take advantage of the additional spring rate with a little bit of compression. If it starts to feel like it turns differently left to right, i'll add a bit of pre load to the looser side.

      @@DoesItTrack thanks! It’s still lost on me how increasing ride height in a corner also adds corner weight, I assumed it would be the opposite. I imagine it as a tub of water: if you race one corner, wouldn’t the water slosh down to the corner diagonal to the one you raised, hence making the subject corner lighter?

    Very good video! I've been thinking about how to adjust the my coilover. I'm a little confused, in your case, if the lower half is extended instead of the compression spring, the overall length of the suspension will be longer, and left and right may be uneven, right? Is it OK?

    • @yasuke1075
      @yasuke1075 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right, and that is not okay. Not only does the length of your damper affect the available bump/rebound travel relationship, which is key to performance, but the length effects when your bump stops are engaged relative to anything else. This is both a measurement that affects performance as well as your safety.
      On the safety hand you need to set up the length of your damper setup so that the bump stop engages before the tires, control arms, or any other moving parts in your wheel well touch the frame/body of the car. This keeps you from damaging parts or cutting tires on fenders, which could end up in serious accidents.
      On the performance hand, you don't want shocks to have different lengths left to right because that means one side will bottom out before the other. This will cause the car to pull in one direction under large compression events, which makes the car very unstable over rough terrain or large bumps. Not so confidence inspiring for a driver in a performance situation.

    I didn't notice if you leveled your scales. If not you will not have an accurate corner weights.

      My garage is surprising level. I checked it with a long bubble level the best I could, along with the digital level gauge. There was a half degree deviation front to back, but close enough for what I needed. Good call.

    • @theohlinsguy4649
      @theohlinsguy4649 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoesItTrack I had an epiphany recently. I would always try to get all four scales level with each other which was a big pain especially with getting front and back level with each other. All of a sudden I realized that since you can't jack weight front to rear that it didn't mater if the front scales were level with the rear. As long as the two rears are level with each other and the two fronts are level with each other the scaling will be perfect. I tested this by scaling as normal and then putting equally thick spacers under the back tires. No change. Same with tire pressure. As long as both tires are the same on one end the other end can be different as long as they are the same to each other. Keep up the good work on your youtube channel!

    How do you get the suspension to relax since you're using jacks to lower it?

    • @DoesItTrack
      @DoesItTrack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Take a look at 6:15, you'll see the aluminum sheets under the tires. They have grease between them, aka, the old turnbuckle plates for alignments. It allows the suspension to go fully down to resting position.

    • @DoesItTrack
      @DoesItTrack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do want an end disconnected if you have any load on the bar at all. Then check it again after it's reconnected. If you have a lot of load on the bar stationary, there's something else going on too.

      @@melekk0 you can get the numbers for sure, but it may have an uneven feel left to right corners. If it does, it's time for adjustable sway bars links where you can vary the tension.
