  • On the night of Sunday, February 9, 2020, Solar Orbiter will launch atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, taking off for its 7-to-10-year journey to orbit and study our Sun.

    During this daring mission, Solar Orbiter will take high-res images of the Sun’s poles for the first time and help us further understand the Sun-Earth connection.
    The spacecraft’s suite of instruments will study the way our star creates and controls the Heliopause-the giant bubble of plasma that surrounds the whole Solar System-and how it influences all of the planets within it.
