I like your content. You don't scream, don't include annoying loud music, and your edits are smooth. It's very difficult to find content like this. It reminds me of Sreten from M539 Restorations. You've gained yourself a new subscriber here.
Yup, same here. Keep it up with interesting cars
Same here... great content.
+1. Greetings from Bulgaria
I agree :) anyone knows what that pcv hose is for?
Positive crankcase ventilation I believe so any fumes/vapour from crankcase it captures and filters out :) @@jakoberiksen2944
The styling on the V70 of this generation seems almost timeless. It looks just as current today as almost twenty years ago. Great video, thanks.
S60R is 3” shorter than the V70R, also remove that bracket behind the resonator or flip it around and put it over the exhaust and below the driveshaft. It’s called the bracket of death cause when it gets caught on the road it’ll shove the exhaust into the driveshaft and cause irreparable damage.
That PCV hose is the original design from 05 😂
bump
lol, love when you fix something major for a few $ and then use that as an excuse to buy new parts for $$$
Oh it's the best. I bought a 98 ford explorer that was having door lock issues and one day it just actually fixed itself and it's been good for months now. Same with its transfer case motor. It was being weird shifting when it wanted to then the more it got used the better it got.
I always tell the wife look for 50 more I can have performance instead of stock works every time 😂😂😂
Thats when the car gods smile upon you
I do the same😊😂
Loving the V70 vids. As a Norwegian I love these cars from our wonderful neighbors in the east. We had almost no V70Rs though. Such a unicorn. Keep up the good work!
your videos are really underrated, your editing is on point, keep up the good work, i really enjoy your content :D
this is the kind of car content that people are excited to watch. True car enthusiasts enjoy seeing someone passionate about what theyre working on. Whether it be cars theyre interested or not, you will have a strong viewership. Underrated channel and always excited for the next upload. Reminds me of watching Ronald Finger and Fuzzydiceproject for the first time.
Since you mentioned replacing the wheels, think about keeping these classic Pegasus rims. These were standard for V70Rs and just cannot be left unused :)
I totally agree, I would much prefer that he repairs these classic R rims rather than install something else. They really do belong on this vehicle.
Bought the last set of pegasus 18 rims in Sweden cost $2600 for four new ones.
@@A.Spolbil_AB that’s amazing! Were they actually new??
As a diehard Volvo fan, these videos are so much fun to watch! The R is truly an iconic car for Volvo. I’m blown away by your expertise in repairing this beast and bringing it back to life!!!
A bit of info on v70 and s60. V70 is S60 in wagon form because its built on the same frame and chassis (s60 was conceived before v70 on the p2 platform), just about any part from these cars are interchangeable. S80 while also being a p2 (assuming same year) platform is not the same as s60 and v70 and a lot if its parts are not compatible.
The crossover year began in 2004 for v70 and s60 and ended somewhere in 2005.
As someone already mentioned you need to calibrate your newly installed shocks, because the car has a sensor which actively monitors the cars chassis position relatively to its shock travel (correct me if i'm wrong on this one). I'd recommend changing the bushings in the engine sub frame, will vastly improve the way the front of the car handles. I wish i could put the codes that you need, but youtube marks them as spam. If you entertain the idea of changing them : the 2 front bushings are different from the 2 rear bushings, (front are with a blue ring around them and the rear ones are with a white ring). At some point one of the rear bushings had an oval hole (while the rest are round), that is no longer the case and all of them have round holes.
If you feel some sort of vibrations when the engine is idle on the steering wheel, your 2 hydraulic motor mounts might be shot, they are vacuum operated (can be easily checked, if they dont hold vacuum they are shot, do check the vacuum lines as they might have holes in them). Also check if the "boot" (below the vibration dampener, the one that serpentine belt is on) on the right side of the engine is not torn.
Thanks for confirming that on my v70 too the motormounts are shot :(
Ah well, suspected it already.
Hydraulic pillows?
@@ST3ADYxKICKS Yeah my bad, the correct term would be hydraulic motor mounts. The word pillow was the first thing that came to mind, simply because they work somewhat the same and i've edited my post to correct the mistake.
@@Torchedini Before your start firing up the parts canon: check all vacuum hoses going from motor mounts as they tend to crack with age. If they are cracked, dont buy original parts as the cost is beyond ridiculous. Just get a hose that is rated for fuel/oil (i think it was 4mm inner diameter). Also check the solenoid that lives on the air filter box (diesel version) and as for gasoline version i cant really help as my knowledge is very limited on those engines (i'm talking about how gasoline engines supply vacuum to the hydraulic motor mounts).
@@MrKypcthere is no vacuum connection on the motor mounts
Glad I found your channel . My dad has an S40 1.8 since 2007 and that got me into liking Volvos . I’m excited for this project of yours !
Man I love your vibe and the car. I’ve got an 07 XC70 here in Germany, with a D5 Engine in it. I’ve got a suggestion, cover your inner A Pillars with Alcantara, that’s just such a good look in the interior, you won’t regret it. Keep going and provide us with the good videos you’re doing. Have a good one 💪🏻
Absolutely loving this V70R series. Your crashed S60R has the leather airbag cover still. It's an easy fix to remove it from the old airbag and reinstall on your post-recall V70R airbag. Remove battery terminals for at least 5 minutes though to prevent explosions!
I really enjoy watching your content! I'm enthusiast in understanding replacements of the car and how everything works. And other channel's videos makes videos too raw, screwing couple bolts for one minute which makes me already bored. So your videos about cars makes me want to see it in the first place! I'm a big fan of your content, keep it up!
I respect how “real” your video is. We all go into things thinking it’s just a matter of change this, change that and then we find out the devil is in the details! I’d thought about getting one of these Volvos but opted to go the BMW route instead. Still, you make it seem like your V70R is a very real contender!
Nice job! One of my favourite cars, for sure. I can't tell you how I feel whenever I watch a video from someone in the South working on a 20-year old car that has no rust, everything seems to be coming off super easily and they have the guts of complaining of some "rusty" bolts lol!!! It must be a mix of anger and envy haha! You should see my 2004 Saab 9-5 that spent its life between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, Canada. Nothing comes off easily, the rust if omnipresent and it's always a crazy chore to take off anything. The salt gets everywhere, corrodes anything metal, even aluminum. I need to refresh the suspension and I know it'll be 10x harder than what I just watched. Many of the bolts aren't even hexagonal anymore! But so is the reality up here. Keep up the great content, I'm so glad this V70R was saved, it's just beautiful!
"Please change brake fluid and engine/turbo hoses as soon as possible" was the comment i wrote before i saw the last scene and yes, pcv hose broke right after that. Good car, good content, thanks.
A great job. V70s were really popular here in the UK, even used by the motorway police. It's a gorgeous looking car.
Can remember the T5 coming out and the police using those as well - the age of Escort Cosworths struggling to pull away from a Volvo estate 😂
@@davidellinsworth3299 Yes, I believe the T5 was quite a machine. 🙂
Love the VR Series. Great explaining, clean edits, calm vibes. Great details when you change parts. Those canyons look amazing. No need to make the videos shorter if you're thinking about it, watched and loved every second of it. Keep up the amazing work, looking forward to the next one! Cheers / Martin from Sweden
Looks amazing. I would clean and reupholster the leather, ceramic coat it and give the whole V70 a good polish and interior detail, new wiper blades and do a wheel refurb, will be mint!
production quality and editing work is A1. love your content and love how timeless this v70 is
dude i love this content, no one from sweeden is working on a v70R and you just hit diffrent, you have such a nice vibe! and also a suggestion for your build get swedish headlights and some dynamic fender turningsignal! whould be sick af!!!
Watching these videos all the way from finland. Me and my fiance also have v70 but it is 2.5 turbo with 210hp. Love that car and love your youtube chanel. Keep up the great work my man 👌
Nice job on the Volvo. That exhaust seems expensive but very nice (who wouldn't want same technology as Nascar 😂)
Volvo's seat are comfy and very safe with Sips for extra security from side collision. I tried a lot of different electric cars on the market, and Volvo has the best seats, period!
My V70R itch was gone after reading about costly repairs but you have reignited it. I'm tired of driving a boring car and this fits the bill so nicely. Your content is absolutely perfect btw! It is no nonsense, direct. Happy to have subscribed several videos ago.
My brother in law here in the UK sadly scrapped his V70 T5, with the taxation in the London area suddenly introduced the car became like public enemy number 1. A great shame as it was a well looked after car. Not living in London I bought an XC70 recently, great car. Interesting to see the work you are doing, I am conjouring up the enthusiasm to do a Haldex service on mine..
do your Haldex sooner and save lots of money vs. putting it off until later
Fantastic editing! Very simple mods and maintenance with explanations. Happy hauling in the turbo brick!
The sync with the music at 06:33 was beautiful
solid content man, i like your editing style and your topic and your clearly conferrable Infront of the camera, calling it now this channel is going to explode in popularity in the next few months. :)
as mentioned before. The original motherboard from the rearview mirror has to be replaced to the other mirror. Due to the Upper Electronics Module (UEM). Great updates though. Keep up the good work !!
Yes, that houses a module for things like the remote key. I had the unfortunate experience of finding a nice new mirror in a junkyard, replacing the entire housing and then not having my remote lock/unlock work. Everything else worked fine. Luckily I found a way to fix the old mounting mechanism in the old mirror so that I could keep using it without it wobbling around which was my issue originally with the mirror.
I genuinely enjoying the videos, and watching YOU and the CAR progress. Don’t forget getting an alignment could really help with wheel fitment and tire wear. Really sweet seeing you doing longer format videos. Cheer!
it's really shaping up into the dream turbo brick. looking forward to more.
It is not even a "brick". There was a transition period from the old brick design back then. 😂
Just found this channel after bingeing on your analogue photography for a few years. Didnt know you did this stuff... really cool! Ive always had a soft spot for fast Volvos ever since the T5 came out in 94-ish, whenever it was - and I was a massive Ford Cosworth nut back then
Good content and great vid.
Before you throw out the old 4Cs, cut off the pigtails and save them to re-sell. Some ppl need them if they are doing away with the 4C suspension to "trick" the computer to think they are installed.
Also, when working on suspension, I almost always replace parts in pairs / on both sides. E.g., in your video we only see you replacing one upper strut mount and one upper strut bearing. I would have replaced both of these parts on both front struts.
When you pulled the PCV hose off...🤣😆 That had me dying! Excited to see your next vids Willem
I've had three of these. They are good cars. Just remember to change the cambelt and water pump and be very careful to time the belt correctly.
those extendable exhaust clamps are a smart OE design to swap between similar cars!
Its wild that buddy was going to send this to the scrap yard over some maintenance items. Great job saving it and keeping it on the road.
I like how some guys are one-man army on their own.
Nice video! Making some great progress on such a cool car! They need keeping on the road. Your videos are excellent, keep up the good work!
Loving this journey! Keep it up ✨🤙🏼
The V70R is my low key dream car. I like your channel, it is the style(ish) I'll be going for building mine when I can....your growth is pretty crazy... congrats bro
Love those sleeper Volvo’s!!! They are fast cars for what they are. I’ve owned 3 and loved all of them except for the reliability issues.
make sure you recalibrate the SUM since you replaced the struts!
My GOD man how CLEAN is the underside of that car?!? You have no idea how luxurious that looks to someone from the UK, rust fucking central.
No mud, no rust, all the bolts still have thread on them.
Fantastic - great to see these wagons getting some love, and I really enjoy your video format. Tasteful mods as well. 10/10 looking forward for more
Nice work! I have my dad's '05 also, thinking i may swap that exhaust on also- didnt know that was out there, although i must have heard it on another V70R in my neighborhood. Looking forward to more ideas and inspiration on my restoration!
Great work, as a long timer with Rs one of the best mods i made was relocating the front strut accelerometers to the body to reduce the occasional suspension crashes that happened.
Never stop posting man you make some of the best videos on youtube
im from sweden i love this car but in sweden its pretty expensive you have a great channel
you know whats crazy, i work for a auction company and we go one of these in a blue one it was jacked up bad and we sold it for almost 5k, your in way better shape good job!!
Found your channel recently and I love your personality and attitude in these videos! You could be fixing a non-draining sink, and I’d watch it!
Freaking love V70's.. Awesome work dude, can't wait for more.
Look forward to more content. Very well done. Love watching other people take care of their Volvos
i love how chill the vid is, and the quality and aesthetics is just on point
Bro ... the car looks so sick. Your content, edit is amazing. We are waiting for more !
Absolutely clean! The exhaust fits so well with the car - understated but still such a good sound!
Great job kiddo! Can't wait to see the evolution of your work.
I have an '01 V70 T5 in Classic Red and I'm going through the exact same journey lol, I Put BC racing coilovers on back in September and now I'm building an exhaust, I wish I could make this awesome content!!
You're always inspirational! I get creative power from your videos everytime. Arigato from Japan.
Same PCV hose fell off on my 2006 car. After testing the system with the glove test, I just replaced that single hose, not the whole system.
Hadn’t appreciated the changes to the seats over the years, but had noticed that your car seems to have some elements of the pre and post facelift cars in Europe. You’ve got a facelift interior and exterior, but the fuse box and charge carrier are pre-facelift. Might be different specs in the US 🤷🏼♂️
Great job on the fixes.
I have an 1985 Oldsmobile as a project car and 99.9% of the time, it is easier to work on than newer cars. However, after watching you remove two snap panels and two bolts to replace the drivers carpet, I am unbelievably jealous. It took me an entire afternoon of removing seats and trim with an entire range of sockets and screwdrivers to remove it and had to fight the factory adhesive on top of that.
W series, binge watched all your volvo content so now im up to date
You got it for a really good price! The cheapest Volvo V70R in Sweden is 13 000 dollars 😮
haha the damn PCV bit at the end! These things are something else man, I can't wait to get mine back on the road!
This is really great content, I've been eyeing a v70r for a while now but i don't have the funds or space for it, so I'll just live it vicariously through your build 😁
Being from Ireland its almost hard to comprehend how rust free these cars from California are 🥲
Irish here too. Have a 07 volvo S80 3.2 AWD that is like a new car in under considering it spent its life here. Going to be putting around 4k to 5k into it to get it fully mechanically perfect but I think its the only one in Ireland. Had a V70 2.5T that was just as clean. They are out there but getting very rare and you will have to throw decent money at them
The best Volvo TH-cam channel
The only channel I have the notification bell on for. Great work!
I was thinking you should restore the current wheels but when you showed the sneak peek of the new ones I changed my mind 😂
About the rearview mirror, you can't just simply replace it. It contains the Upper Electronics Module (UEM) and that controls the rooflights but also contains the radio receiver for the central locking/alarm. It's possible to just replace the glass from another working unit, but it's a bit of an operation.
Another idea is to hide the electronics inside the headliner and use whatever rearview mirror.
I have a problem with my key only unlocking the car when the key is right up next to the mirror. My glass has also got the fluid leak problem like in this video, any ideas what I’m best doing ?
@@gillers94 I'd first change the battery in the remote 👍
common pcv issue. i would do the glove test. (pvc glove test) if that one is bad all the other vacuum lines are the same including the turbo lines. i have a s60 and had to replace all the boost and vacuum lines. not hard just annoying. good luck and welcome to p2 chassis head aches 🤣.
Randomly find your channel. Solid guy, great content, and awesome energy. Makes me want to get back in my s60r. Easy sub and waiting for more content!
This is awesome man I don't see much videos on TH-cam I can relate to but your videos are great, keep it up 👌🏻
I’m a hyped every time a new video drops, actually gasped the moment I opened TH-cam
Great video brother man, keep the uploads coming and you’ll be a big channel
great video, my R was in a pretty similar situation to yours and i'm gonna be doing a lot of what you're doing here soon! i love the v70r's i wish i would've got one instead of the s60r
Just discovered your channel, and I really like it! Keep it up with the cool vids my man👍🏼
Did you look at shock tower on inside? I had a ton of rust. I sanded it hit with bullet rust the rust-oleum. One side had a hole once I pressed on it. Top side looked fine too. My exhaust bolt broke you got lucky 😊. Love the videos. Thanks for sharing.
Dearr Dude !! .....SUPERB Vlog .............Happy New Year !! ........Peace
Great video style. I love the build so far!!! Subbed :) -Saab guy
Love these Volvos! Good louck on the project.
i just love the look of stationwagons
Calibrate the suspension in Vida and just swap out the dead mirror and solder in the new glass 👍
Swap the seat skins , hog rings and a couple oh hours🎉
earned a subscriber, these videos are awesome.
man that turned out so nice (both ride height and exhaust)
a 30 min wheelem video? glad you're back to posting on this channel
just found you thanks to the first v70r video, i just love it! you gained a sub! hope to see it complete soon! looks like you are making good progress! (maybe one day you'll get a s80 v8?) nice vids man
Nice vid Willem!
V70r is a gem ❤
Sweet repairs. Car looks mint!
I love it bro!! keep going!! dont stop!!
i love v70's my dad has a 2011 v70R p3, cheers from Gothenburg Sweden home of volvo :)
love your videos dude 👍🏼
how did i find this channel 20min ago and right away new video
Really interesting watch, earned a sub, btw. those Opinel knives are really nice :)
I have this exact same car and its so fun to watch someone else modify this thing and change the things on it that I wont. LOL
Exhaust hanger removal tool - makes it so dang easy!
Throw away that bracket @15:20, It will get bent (as it already is) and push your exhaust up, damaging your driveshaft. Expensive for a stupid bracket. It should be fully supported by the hangars not touching the bracket. Search rain squeal, it can even happen without the bracket being damaged.
Throw on a downpipe and you'll realllly enjoy the tunes. I've got an exhaust vid on my page
That bracket was used to pull the car down the assembly line and should have been removed after the car was built... but on most Rs, it never was.
@xhf8yxhf8y9 I've heard some people say this before!
Nice job, I enjoy your videos. I have a 2004 s60r in sapphire black
Great video's...awesome vibe! 🙏
Willem has the best car channel in 2024
