What a car! A few things that Ive replaced, like the bonnet strut, the rear view mirror, but need to take the old central locking sensor out of the old one and fit into the replacement. The solenoid on the fuel filler cap needs replacing and the left hand front indicator has a loose connection, but nothing on the scale of your re-build!@@Patphenis

Several thousand miles away, I'm restoring my manual 2008 V70 AWD D5. Currently on the 'Swirl flaps', EGR and engine mounts. Thanks for giving me the confindence to tackle this project myself! Surprisingly easy cars to work on 😁
I had the same thing happen with my charge air pipe after working on my S60R. Was doing a pull onto the freeway and I suddenly hear a large whoosh. Clutch in and engine dead, I friction fitted it and limped the car home, after I fixed it, it was fine. Anyways, love to see these cars being saved, it’s a shame on how many end up scrapped. I just picked up a running/driving '04 S60R for $800, so i'm really enjoying this series of videos. I'm a long-time Volvo fan, so I knew what i was getting myself in to. One critique: I would never run Bosch spark plugs in any vehicle. For Volvos, OEM or NGK seem to work best
You have a great shooting/editing style that is really calming to watch. Positive attitude and super informative. Also it’s just nice to watch a car get taken care of
Love your videos, man!!! 👍🏾👍🏾❤️ I have an 04 V70R. She’s a manual with the “space ball” shifter. Bought for $6K 4 years ago from a private seller. So far I’ve spent around $5K on it that includes regular and preventative maintenance (new tires, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter) and also a few hiccups (turbo, rear axle, rear circuit board, etc.) I’m currently at 250K miles.

Dude, I’ve bought a 1500 Volvo, seriously same price, was a p2 xc70 put a bunch of money and work into it. Similar issues to yours, shot Pcv leaking oil. Did water pump as well as timing. Planned a lot with that car, unfortunately got hit by a motorcycle driving in the wrong lane on a curvy road (he survived with minor injuries) but so sad that my wagon was totaled out before. 😞 love the Volvo community. This series is reminding me of my car quite a bit, my Pcv hose was also destroyed like yours, spark plugs nasty but not original, everything you’ve been doing I’ve done or need to do to mine soon. Bought my s60R in September and have loved owning it even with its hiccups
Incredible job! This Volvo series is like a daytime soap opera, the plot just never ends. Can you easily pull out the plugs in a few hundred miles to confirm if the oil leaks on top of the head have been stopped? It sounds like the job of changing the head gasket is one I would never, ever wish upon a friend. Although it would make for more good TV... Cheers! 🍻✌
I have a t5 c30 and this exact thing happened to me. I bought it with about 185k for 4 grand and about 2 months later, i had fouled plugs in wells 2 and 4 i believe. Replaced those with Bosch Iridiums. 4 months later i had fouled plugs again. Discovered that my pcv system was bad when I would take the oil cap off and had the glove I wrapped around was expanding so I knew instantly what was going on. Awesome video very concise. I love those V70Rs. Would love one or an 850R someday.
big volvo guy here. many current white blocks- the holes you had the most oil in are the holes that get filled by the actual pcv tube when it fails. also the oil cap will fill them if it has a bad seal.

Kept it for a year and passed it along to a young kid that is a Volvo nut. He loved it. They are an underrated car by most people. Might get another down the road but I would like an old rear wheel Amazon or the like. Cheers!
Hello! I like what you do, good luck and new cool videos. I'm from Moldova and I have a 2006 S60 T5. I like how you enthusiastically disassemble and repair cars.
Great work on bringing this beauty back to life...I'd personally have the original R wheels refurbed..I like the simpler 5 spoke style. Plus OCD has kicked in.. spotting one of your license plate lights has blown 😳
Nice job you did. 👍 when it comes to wheels everyone has it’s own taste. :) And I love you showing also your “fails”. Only ine who dont do anything are not making mistakes. This is how we learn. On OEM parts. Sometimes they are actually on the same price level or cheaper then alternatives. Like spark plugs, timing belt. Specifically plastic parts. Brakers usualy ask a lot more then original new one is worth.
the dream brick continues to improve! love it. although I can't believe that business about the valve cover. Volvo imitating Audi, I guess. for wiring issues where you have a bunch of wires close together all losing their insulation (i.e., any older German car ever with Xenon headlights - they just get baked until the insulation dries up and flakes off), you can try liquid electrical tape. Permatex makes a good one. it's messy but effective, especially in tight spots where it's difficult to wrap anything.
You made awesome work and your music taste is 10/10. I enjoy your videos and that you give some love to R's. They need them and will pay you with smile on your face. Cheers!
Your knowledge of white block engines is really impressive. I had to pick this know-how up in the middle of the night while swearing profusely. There is no Bentley manual for these cars snd the Haynes / Chilton manuals are just terrible. Really cool! Im excited to see whats next for your projects.
I've had wires like that once on an old car... you could always use liquid electrical tape, saved me a few times, or you could use something like "right stuff" to isolate them. Did that once too.
Great mental control and thinking on the oil mess..hopefully the oil was based on the pcv issue...Excellent car, very worth staying the course....I changed the tire size on my XC70 to get a wider stance....not certain about using spacers...so, I'll watch you do it.
Thank you for fixing this Volvo. I have one of the last V70 s made although it’s a D4 SELUX ,( didn’t make a petrol unfortunately) having said that it does 44 mpg around town and road fund licence just thirty pounds a year so a win win there. I only do a couple of thousand miles a year, it runs like a sewing machine but then i have only ever used from new super diesel, (163pence a litre at the moment)as the garage mechanic told me to do, hopefully it will see me out 😊.
Fingers crossed just the PCV is causing the oil leak! Also worth checking is the oil cap seal. They like to leak. Should try a SUM calibration with those lowering springs. Rear ride hight sensors will we confused sitting a little bit lower. Also ride hight sensors being off will confuse the headlights and will aim at the ground.
I really am enjoying this series, you found a new subscriber! After this project my votes would be for a volvo xc60 i think if you can find one crashed or with problems around 2-2.5k
My favorite Volvo model that is on my bucket list of “Cars I’d love to own when I grow up.” I’ve repaired many cars in my short 53 years but never have I seen a sketchy banjo bolt that could wreck an engine! Yikes!!! Looks fishy to me and I say, “down down with designed obsolescence!” Also, if I owned this project vehicle here’s a short list of mods I’d do ASAP: 1) Catch Can for turbo. This is a simple bolt-on add on that prolongs the life of the turbo by trapping blow-by vapors and reducing water content in the induction system … thus reducing wear on bearing etc. Cheap to buy , easy to install, and works great (just gotta remember to empty it every 6-10K miles). 2) Iridium spark plugs. Though pricey ($12-$20/plug) they last 100K miles, run cooler than other traditional anode materials, give a brighter feel to the ignition charge, and open up slight gains in mpg and in hp. 3) Engine-bay-wiring harness replacement. These wiring harnesses are segmental and probably still available from the dealer. By far this is the simplest way to bring peace of mind. As soon as I see exposed wires I don’t wait to see the hell that awaits, I swap the old harness for a new one. I’ve been there and never want anyone to suffer that craziness. When swapping in a new harness I try to correct the oversights/cost-cutting measures of the manufacturer by adding additional heat shielding to wires in regions of high heat by sheathing the wire bundles in thermo shielding made by DEI and heat reflective tape on any single wire sensors such as O2 sensors, thermostat sensors, etc. This is a low-budget investment that could save thousands of hours of suffering in the future. But I would not dare a manual swap!!! Beyond my bandwidth of abilities and don’t see gains in such an undertaking. But thats just me. Keep it rolling, bro! This is a Ferrari beater that deserves a renascence!
Ayyy, thanks for showing me that Nebulas won't fit without modification onto my S60R Also thanks for giving me the idea to buy spacers to make a wheel fit, I don't know how but somehow I didn't think of that
In my opinion the original wheels look much better. The understated design of these truly fits these sleeper like cars. I would try to find a better set original rims, or have them existing ones refurbished. Great content though, keep it coming!

My favorite Volvo model that is on my bucket list of “Cars I’d love to own when I grow up.” I’ve repaired many cars in my short 53 years but never have I seen a sketchy banjo bolt that could wreck an engine! Yikes!!! Looks fishy to me and I say, “down down with designed obsolescence!”
Also, if I owned this project vehicle here’s a short list of mods I’d do ASAP:
1) Catch Can for turbo.
Loving this series dude. Keep it up!
Ayyy, thanks for showing me that Nebulas won't fit without modification onto my S60R
Also thanks for giving me the idea to buy spacers to make a wheel fit, I don't know how but somehow I didn't think of that
can't wait for the finished product!
In my opinion the original wheels look much better. The understated design of these truly fits these sleeper like cars.
I would try to find a better set original rims, or have them existing ones refurbished.
Great content though, keep it coming!
