    Yes! A big regret we have is bringing all our stuff to Hawaii, and it won’t fit most places. So then not only do you have the cost of moving it, but then also rebuying, and much more limited housing options. And each month we didn’t find a house we also had the extra huge storage fee. It ended up being so constraining and more costly.

      Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s such a tough balance with the moving/storage costs vs costs of rebuying… and so hard to predict! We’re going camping this wknd & i just realized that we sold our camp stove haha. But we do have a jet boil so I found some fun recipes to use with that instead. Just gotta adapt and get creative with less. And oh man, living in Hawaii. What a dream! 🌴🌴

    this video came at the perfect time for me. We are planning to move out of state and we are feeling the urge to drastically downsize like you did and this gives me the motivation I need. We have about 2 months to do this so I feel super motivated now to list all of the things!!

    Brilliant video! Good for you on trying to declutter as responsibly as possible. I read somewhere that whenever we buy something (and even before) we should consider how we would get rid of it responsibly. It's really hard work decluttering and selling things (well done you) and it's a sobering lesson to think about all that effort before we even acquire something. How cathartic letting all those things go, and having a fresh start. Amazing work, and I look forward to the next adventure!

      Hi! Thank you! You are always so kind. Thanks for always supporting me on the channel. 💞
      Yes, I love that thought process re: considering how we will get rid of an item before we buy it. I find that I am even more tuned in with that way of thinking now that I have a child. I want to be the good example. I feel like it's all about baby steps! I am trying to go for less pre-packaged items in the grocery store these days, but it is hard. Everything is wrapped in plastic!
      And yes, totally sobering experience. It makes me want to shop even less than before. It has been super cathartic letting everything go. Cheers to the future!

    Thanks for the info! I live in MT and have lived in Colorado….since you mentioned both I thought I would tell you the difference. Everything is harder in MT and the weather is worse but the pace is slower ( which can be good or bad). Colorado is sunnier and warmer, more pricey with more going on. Good luck!

      Thank you, Erin! I definitely observed a lot of that. Haven't taken on the Montana winter, yet, though. I feel like you have to fully live it to get it. Lol! We enjoyed out time in Colorado. We stayed for June & July. Really loved the mountain towns, especially Estes Park. :)

    I love videos like this. I just stumbled upon it but I’m excited to see where your journey has taken you. I’m a mountain girl too and I love Montana and lived in a White Fish in 2021. I now call Wyoming home and love the nature and wide open spaces.

    An idea for the next time you have a garage sale is to take photos of all your stuff in one place like in your garage, and take as many photos as you can of the “pile” as well as you can add nice photos of bigger ticket items into the listing, and make a post on Facebook in your local pages and advertise it as a garage sale that people can message you to purchase any item before the garage sale. I ended up selling 70% of what I had a day before we even had the sale and made full price Facebook marketplace listing prices but sold it at a garage sale pace. I made $3,500 the day before just having people pay immediately to hold it, and then another $500 the actual morning of the garage sale. I had HUNDREDS of messages the day before of people begging for me to send my cashapp or Zelle or something so they could buy it before someone else. It was freaking amazing. 😂😂 I will definitely be doing that next time I do a garage sale, it was kinda stressful answering the insane amount of messages but by far the most profitable garage sale I’ve EVER had.
    Loving your channel sooo much!!

      Yessssss. Facebook Marketplace is the best place to go. I ended up selling a handful of things on there on the garage sale day. Something to do between customers to fill time. Thanks so much for watching & for the comment.

    Good tips! We had home and vacation home. Had raised two boys with all their activities, I am an artist, lots and lots of stuff. During Covid we decided to leave Canada. Started decluttering, staging, selling, donating which continued for several years. Habitat for Humanity got 3 truckloads of beautiful home decor and furniture. Sold both houses. Temporarily moved to a 2 bedroom apartment with our younger son, then after a 2 years, moved overseas. Several trips back and forth with a lot of suitcases we have only what we need. Shipping costs astronomical so decided it would be only suitcases. Feels very freeing. Love things being more simple, but I am still recovering from all the stress.

      What a journey you’ve had! Thanks for sharing your story. How awesome. I just had another baby so we have two boys, as well 💙 Trying to challenge myself to live minimally while we rent a townhouse right now. We really don’t need much to be happy. Cheers!

      Where overseas might l ask? Is this temporary, or did you do it to have a lower cost of living? I am newly retired and reading about a lot of retirees moving out of country for cheaper living..

      @@Jkaye13 I don't know if this place is the best for saving $ unless a particular situation tax wise. We plan to stay about 5 years and then have a plan to go elsewhere for different reasons. Complicated.

    Wow!! You did incredible on selling your stuff and getting 80% return on it!! Unbelievable! I have been on a mission to downsize for the last 5+ years.. but seriously, as I've been through almost the whole house (excluding the basement) l feel like l need to start all over again and get rid of more! 😩 I've been looking into tiny homes and knowing that l want to have less before making a move..

    • @savannahsdwyer
      @savannahsdwyer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can do it! Just keep at it, believe in your why and be ruthless. I still declutter every day. The stuff just pours in. A tiny house sounds nice. 🤍

    This is very inspiring! I must say, I'm not a fan of having to ask what the prices are at a garage sale, but it sounds like yours went well. 😀

    • @savannahsdwyer
      @savannahsdwyer  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That’s what I said to my husband!! I would way rather items be priced. It’s the worst when you ask about an item at a g sale and they tell you a price that’s way higher than you’d like to pay…. then you awkwardly have to put it back and be like no thanks and fade into the background lol. I’m with you! 😄
      Thanks so much for watching and commenting! ✨💗

    I lived in Missoula for a year and a half. Super cool town, but the winter was really hard to adjust to. I’m from Georgia. But also went to college in Utah (salt lake city), and lived in salt lake for a total of 7 years. The Montana winter was way harder than the Utah winter

    I did exactly this back in 2020, I sold all my stuff and move to the forest. However recently I just move to a new place. Still away from a big city, but now I do have human neighbors instead of 🐻. I can’t said how much I actually needed some human contact cause living in the forest was very lonely. FYI, Facebook market place is not as good as in a big city, so it’s harder to find nice use furniture.

    • @savannahsdwyer
      @savannahsdwyer  ปีที่แล้ว

      A kindred spirit! Thanks for watching! Where did you move to in the woods? 🌲🌲 What a cool experience. And yes, i’m always surprised too by how much human connection keeps me upbeat and fulfilled. We are definitely built that way. And I hear you on FB marketplace, it’s much better in bigger metro areas!

    yeah, you know, its not about minimalism to me, its about making every single moment and choise, conscious. i can relate on going in slow, as i stuggle with letting go of my stuff too and omg, im feeling soo overwhelmed too, as i m going to move, relocate also in near future, so having all this in mind whne decluterring, surely feels way overwhelming

    • @savannahsdwyer
      @savannahsdwyer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It took me months and months of diligently working through our stuff & we didn’t really have that much. It takes longer when you’re, like you said, working to be conscious about every choice. It is worth it though. Thanks for watching 🤍✨

    Could you do a video on how to grow on TH-cam?

    • @savannahsdwyer
      @savannahsdwyer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lea 😊 Oh gosh, I don't think I am quite qualified to do that. When I started my channel, I watched a bunch of YT videos where creators gave tips that I took notes on. The question was framed as if you were to do it over again, or give advice to your future self, what would you say. The biggest reoccurring themes I found included:
      1. Post consistently as possible
      2. Don't let the fear of putting out bad content keep you from posting. Make mistakes & grow
      3. Be your authentic self, don't try to replicate another channel
      4. Thumbnails image, titles & descriptions are important - try different things
      5. Try to improve your videos each time -- maybe focus on music one video, titles in another, planning out a script or story map type thing, the list goes on
      At least this is what I have been trying to do! I thought I had already subscribed to your channel, but I wasn't. I just subscribed. I think your recent thumbnails look great & you are posting consistently. Stick with it & I am sure you will see growth
