I got one with the Yoke (when it was the only option). I quickly got used to it and loved it. It did end up having the peeling that people are getting. Tesla said that they are redesigning the yoke with better materials at some point later in the year so they offered to just replace it with the round wheel so we did that. I wish I still had the yoke, it's great for visibility and turns aren't that bad after you get used to it. Can't recommend the X enough if you have kids in car seats. So much easier to load/unload them. Also the space is awesome for strollers and road trips with family/kids.
JAMIE is correct ! 💪 I went to X from the Y LR... JAMIE will fall in love with it due to the 2nd row doors for loading child.... The extra space in frunk and trunk is AMAZING too... I ended up falling in love with the yoke as well and originally thought I'd hate it... You cant beat the price for the value AND you guys can write it OFF... DAMN IT... Just do it ❗ FAR more quality of life improvement to the family than any silly refresh 3... TRUST ME !!!! AND it is freaking awesome on road trips how far you can go before a charge and how FAST it recharges due to the size of this battery.... JUST DO IT 💪
I’ve gotten 56k miles on my MX in less than a year. The Yoke IS superior when accustomed. I now won’t drive a car with wheel because it’s uncomfortable.

I have a ‘16 MX 6seater with over 265k 1:09 and love it. Haven’t replaced the brakes. Only lost 13% of the battery. Get it, you won’t regret it.
The normal round steering wheel comes as standard. The yoke is a $1k addon at the moment lol

My wife said the same thing - our new X Plaid is significantly nicer than our 7 seater Y. The Falcon wing doors are great in getting our 4yr old in her car seat. When your daughter gets older/bigger your back will appreciate it. Also, the ability to open and close the all of doors from the screen is amazing (just wish there was a way to close all of the doors with one button from the outside and not from the phone). Think the 6 seater version is the best layout giving the most flexibility.
Yes, Jaimie, with a Model X you will be able to expand your family in no time. Lots of room to camp, dog and keep! And, it will be all new content for Gjeebs and the tubers!
We went from a Y to the X and one thing I really miss is the ultrasonic sensors. Vision isn't as good yet for sure, wish they would have left the sensors on.
I have the Model S with the yoke and i would have to say that i love it. It took a while but once you get used to it its not bad. The wood trim looks good if you go with the black interior. The wood is not light like the one that you are test driving. Hey everyone has their own opinion.
Save the money, buy a updated MY when it comes. Or wait until next year, when they deduct the price upfront instead of the hazel with taxes.
No Falcon wing door demo. Best feature of the X when loading and unloading two kids from their car seats. Also, acts a shade during both hot and rainy weather. Holding the steering wheel at 12 O'clock position can break the driver's arm in a frontal collision due to the air bag. Model X is best bang for the buck right now and Tesla is practically giving them away.
We just went and test drove one today! Loved it! We also have a Y that we will probably trade in. I was bummed to find out that any other seating option besides the 5 seater didn’t qualify for the 7500 rebate :( oh well. Also debating on if it’s worth loosing our cheap registration we have on the Y.
Currently drive an older performance model S… looking to get a model X when finances allow. Took a road trip to flagstaff in a Turo model X, it was outstanding to say the least. Such a spacious vehicle and quiet to boot…
I love mine!!! Get one. The only complaint I have is the yoke fake leather is peeling and tesla told me they know it’s a known issue. They will replace mine only once and they said they are working on better materials, so I’m waiting
1. Swap that yoke steering wheel bout for a circular one.. there are plenty of options for that and finishes 2. Even though they dropped the price on that egg and that dash and other areas are hard people expect a certain level of quality and luxury for that price. It’s not just soft cooked seats that are important at that price.
Picked up a Model X Plaid recently. For me, the yoke was surprisingly easy to get used to. The part that is challenging--the turn signals--is not unique to the yoke. The same push-button signaling is used on the optional steering wheel. For normal turns, they're fine. But for use in roundabouts, quite a bit of practice is needed. I was skeptical of the yoke, got it because the car I selected was an inventory vehicle (additional discount), and have ended up enjoying it. I wouldn't swap to a steering wheel because, like I said, doing so wouldn't do anything to address the turn signals.
Small things: The ability to open and close all of the doors from the driver's seat is damn cool. The sound system is superior to that of my Model 3 Performance. With the unique back doors, the experience of staging for a hike or returning to your car after a bike ride is great, it makes it easy to manage your gear. For some reason, the FSD graphics are only displayed for the driver, and as of yet, there's no way to allow the passengers to see the visualization on the main screen.
Haven't driven one myself, but as a taller driver I really like the idea of the yoke. At 6'2, the conventional steering wheel in most cars cuts into my view of the gauges, even adjusted to its highest level. With the yoke, it's just open. I like that. And as you said, the turn signals are the same. It would probably just be a matter of getting used to it, and then it would seem perfectly natural. Now, being able to afford the thing...that's another subject entirely. LOL
Yes, I agree with you. They were TRASHING the yolk unfairly because they didn't see the advantages of it, or why Tesla designed it as an option. I won't follow this channel because they unfairly TRASHED the yolk without also driving one with the regular steering wheel. With the regular steering wheel, you have to have the steering wheel at its highest setting, which for me, is uncomfortable, otherwise, you have to duck you head to see the top of the screen to see how fast your going. Unfair assessment.
I had my MY in for service the other day and I test drove an X while I waited. Definitely agree, wasn't a fan of the yolk either. For straight cruising its fine, but found in parking lots it was a hot mess. But the X is a nice ride for sure! Can't wait to see what you guys end up going with!

I just leased a 23 Model S LR. I came from a MYP. Interior quality is a substantial upgrade. Ride quality is also much smoother.

Same overall feelings about the X as a 5+year Model 3 owner, both a 18' LR RWD and a 19' Performance. Never drove one before but fell for it within minutes....it's that good.....especially the suspension quality, fit and finish of the cabin, upgraded tech (HW4/17" tilt screen/Matrix Headlights/rear seat screen, etc). Ordered one on 9/4 and now I impatiently wait!
My order qualifies for the Federal $7500, $1000 Tesla Loyalty Cash (now reduced to $500), Free Ultra Red and 3-months of Free FSD. Considering its price is over $40k LESS than the same build in Jan. 2023 it's a killer value IMO!

Exactly. 50+ years of owning cars and driving has enlightened me: driving is what counts.
I mean, sure, it’s nice to be surrounded by luxury materials. But, really, they don’t do squat for improving the driving experience.
As long as the materials are good and the build quality is also good (and in my Tesla, they are both good and solid), if I’m paying a premium price, I’d rather that money go into components that positively affect the driving experience. And the Tesla does that: performance, handling, and tech (and the charging network which also affects the driving experience!) all make my driving Tesla a pleasure, each and every time. (And I like the stiffer suspension and ride - makes the car feel and respond better IMHO.)
I’d say Tesla spent their R&D money in exactly the right areas!
If I was buying another EV today, after owning EVs (both Tesla and non-Tesla) for the past 2.5+ years, and driving them all over this country, it’d be a no-brainer: Tesla.
Full stop. Case closed. Moving on in life.

I got my X in February when it was super expensive so it hurts to see how much cheaper they are now 😢. On the other hand I got my Model S a couple months ago so i took advantage of the lower cost there. But I have both X and S with the Yoke and ny wife and i absolutely love it. It takes about a week to get used to it but I prefer it to a regular steering wheel. We may be the only ones though haha
Tough call X vs Y the Falcon doors are a concern but the X has more features the air suspension alone is worth it over the Y.
Why a concern they look amazing
I almost bought one but that was the 2020 Raven with USS sensors the falcon wing doors worked so well, the new optical only sensors make the falcon wing doors suck! They just plain do not work unless you have no cars , walls or garage doors nearby.

I got my Model X Plaid for 15 months now and still love it.
I just picked up my model x a couple of months ago and I might be the weird 1 here loving the yoke. Before I decided to purchase the X, I did the test drive just like you did, with the yoke, and I had to say I did find it hard to use, especially making sharp turns/u turns/3 pt turns. However, love the unobstructed view the yoke provides while driving. After the test drive, we also looked at a 6 seater with the standard steering wheel, and surprisingly after 2 seconds, I said hell no to the steering wheel. All in all, the yoke takes some getting used to and you will find out how to make those tight turns with 1 hand, but then its just a personal preference and with the price at $1000, might be a deal breaker for most (no tax credit)
If you are wondering how the windshield feels in the middle of summer in AZ, I think its fine, I don't really feel the heat on my head or face as the tint on top is pretty dark and I don't sit too far forward to have the glass over me anyway. I was definitely debating on getting ceramic tint on the windshield but I am glad I didn't, esp in AZ where you will need to replace your windshield almost every year (tint is ~$850 and insurance may not cover tint when doing windshield replacement).
Yea I tried it too and I agree. The initial design of the dash supports the yoke. With the round wheel it obstructs the dash and you cannot see the speedo well.
how much better is the suspension versus the model y? Think I will try to pick on up before the year/tax credits are over
Looked at the X & we sat in both, 5 & 6 version. 6 seat configuration is so much more comfortable than 5/7 seat bench. Also we would want white or cream interior. Not paying 80K (before the Federal incentive) and NOT getting the car we want. If Elon moves the needle another 10K, count us in!

6 seater is the way to go
Got my Model X in June. Traded in a Model Y, and love the X's additional features, like air suspension, power automatic doors, falcon doors, chilled seats, bigger tilt screen, additional driver's screen, rear screen, better sound system, larger frunk and trunk, longer range and quicker charging, three years free supercharging, and FSD for three months, which Tesla extended to six. I wish I had not spent $20,000 more than the car's current price, but I thought I was getting a good deal on the price and trade in when I purchased the car. The X is my third and favorite Tesla.
No Model X experience here at all, but ... I'd take a piece of rubber hose and clamp it to that half-a-steering-wheel to complete the circle. Black hose because the standard green would clash with the rest of the interior. Maybe fill that hose with cement so it doesn't flop forward in the heat. Yeah, that would work ;)
I just bought the model S long range last weekend in the Ultra red color and it's beautiful. The rear inlet is 3" wider than my old MYP and only 2" shorter. Give the model S long range a try, which has almost 60 miles extra in distance. The adaptive suspension is adjustable from 51/2" to 8". The 74,990 price, with the free red color is great. Enjoy whatever car you guys get. I don't like the extra moving parts with the doors, for long term.
My thoughts exactly on the x doors. The S is really the one to consider. We picked ours up 2 days ago. Very impressive vehicle.

Yeah buy it! My Y is two years old in November. I plan on upgrading at that time to the X.
Drove the X Plaid recently and now my Y feels like a slug. The acceleration is scary fast. I loved the extra room it had and the cooled seats. The one I drove had the wheel instead of that stupid yoke. The downside of the wheel was that when I used autopilot, with the angle I was sitting, I couldn’t see the blue flashing on the screen in front of me. I ended up getting kicked out of autopilot because of this. If I could pull it off I would definitely get the Plaid X.
I don’t agree with you, Y is 10x more fun vs x what is just a big boat. But yeah, I also like 3 performance more than S so it’s a matter of preference

You do realize there’s no reason to say “price point”, right. There is absolutely no scenario where the words “price” and “budget” won’t describe what you’re trying to say.
“Price point” is the point the price is at, otherwise known as the “price” by everyone with more than 2 brain cells.
You don’t sound like a savvy investor. You sound like someone who is trying to hard to sound like a savvy investor.
The doors have always been a concern. Out of Spec Detailing covered a recently produced model with significant issues with the falcon wings. The $70k price after tax credits is tempting but if you pull the trigger it would be worth doing a very thorough inspection of those doors for any alignment or mechanical issues before accepting delivery.
I tried the model X long time ago, but the falcon Doors hit my garageceiling?? And now with vision instead of sensors, how do you guys think its working ? Have a model YP with vision and it sucks tbh. It says that I am hitting the wall in the garage when im 4 feet away....
I think the issue with the yoke will go away if we install a small steering knob. Maybe someday Tesla will introduce a single spoke steering with a knob at the end.

NICE! Yup.... you should go for it. Can't you get a standard round steering wheel instead? I do like the dark headliner a lot better and I think they should put that in all Tesla's. I dunno, it just seems a more rich feel. I can't wait for the Model Y 'Juniper" to come out. Have you heard or read that Tesla might discontinue the X and the S? Remember back when they started producing cars they said they came out with the most expensive cars to basically get the company started with profits etc. Seems like now their core is the Model Y and 3 and the upcoming Cyber Truck. And of course the small Tesla will be in the near future.
everything you guys are thinking about the X vs Y is me on the S vs 3. at $75-$79k in black (i'm going for the 21 inch wheels) its too good of a car to pass up. I've already sold my M3 and now waiting for my new Black/Black S. Interestingly, there are a LOT of us who see the value as the time to jump in- all of a sudden my car is going to take1.5-2 months to be delivered. Tesla has really jump started sales of these cars. I LOVED my 3, but couldn't believe how great and more luxurious the revamped S is until i test drove it. and Oh yea- the Yoke suck. i made sure mine is ordered with the steering wheel.

The steering and no stalks is made too much off! These things takes a few days and you so used to it you don't want to go back to the old boring conventional!!!
In South Africa, we are right hand drive, and german an Japanese cars have their stalks on different sides of the steering, causing a lot of confusion when one owns or drive the different cars regularly. Meening, one ends up switching on the wipers when one intend to use the indicators, but, although being a bit of a nuisance, one gets use to it quite easily. Thus my view is that those slightly odd things, like the "yoke" steering and no stalks thing, are just a temporary strangeness one should get used quickly!
Big fan of the Model X lot s of cool features however I feel like all those features are something that could break at one point. I would love for you to look at the R1T I have seen used ones in the 70k range or even the new Kia Ev9 SUV
How is the body control and body roll compared to Y? I really liked how model y handles. Yet to try X

I've been waiting for this! I bought my MY 2 years ago. I watched alot of your videos to help me make that decision. Once Tesla lowered the price on the MX, I pulled the trigger a week ago. Delivery date of October / November. Go ahead and do it!

How were you able to test drive without the Tesla rep inside? I was told they had to go with any X or S, but you could ride solo with the Y or 3. I"m 6'3" and torn between the Y and X. My main reluctance on X has been the price. I really don't care about falcon wing doors, but the cooled seats, air suspension and spaciousness is clearly better than the Y, but hard to spend an additional 35K for those comforts. If you purchase, would love for you to share transaction inclusive of financing if you go that route. Thanks
I was handed the X key card and went solo without issue in NJ. They preprogramed a route to follow just for varied street conditions and speeds, but I had it for 20-30min without issue even on a busy Saturday. I'm 6' 2" and been driving a 3 for 5+ years now, no issues alone but the rear seats are tight even for larger children...my X on order will be a HIGE upgrade and IMO worth ever penny.

Did you get to mess with the screen. It can tilt towards either the driver or passenger. Also if you got the white the wood is a bit darker and what i would go with.

2021 Model Y owner here. “Sensible” me says wait for the Model Y refresh. “Life is short” me says to spring for a new $79,900 X.
I have 4 major gripes with the X. It’s basically a 2015 that is overdue for a refresh, wood color console looks out of place, the ultra complicated Falcon doors and the car insurance is 2x what we pay on our Model Y.

All exterior colors are free. You have to get black interior, 20 inch wheels and the 5 seat setup to keep the price at $79,900 in order to get the tax credit.
Did you guys end up buying the MX? My wife and I are also considering the MX and replacing the MY, but with the 6-seater Model X version. Which unfortunately doesn't qualify for the tax incentives. I think 6 seater is friendlier with car seats.

What about a used Audi etron. The 2019s are a significant value for a much higher quality interior then the model x. Downside is less range.
What is the verdict. Did you get a model X? I think for the money they are amazing especially with the tax credit. You did mention the X7 & GLS which are more luxury but the amount you’ll save on gas and maintenance by getting the model X is nuts.
Just bought a Plaid Model X couldn’t pass up that deal. Also this is the last month to transfer FSD so for me it was a no brainer.

Go for it right away , this car with a red color used to cost 121k , now You are getting in for 72.5k. A mode y LR used to sell for 65k and people bought it. I don’t know how Tesla will have this price as their delivery date moved to December.
Dual Motor RIvian starts in high 70's.. X has better efficiency, top speed and better tech. We went with the quad R1S early pricing at 75k. The ride quality of our R1S is better than our GLS580 w air suspension.

Yes Model X comes standard with air suspension and it felt great but I couldn't get it to stick to any setting, it seemed to default to auto

Don’t do it!! Wish I could return mine. Vision sensors are horrible. Just took delivery of my Model X 91k otd and can't even park it well in my garage. 2-3ft and still tells me to stop. After service kept overnight, now it doesn't tell me to stop 10 inches away. Horrible

The X LR is 79,990(base)+1390(delivery)+250(order fee)-500(referral credit) =81,330 + TTL $5500 = $86,614 so yeah giving them away LOL. 7500 tax credit applies later which is great but chances are you are effectively financing that tax credit and not applying it towards your loan.
I like the wood trim. I like the darker headliner too. The yoke not so much
